Mako and Bolin are what happens when parents from two different elements have kids: the kids can bend their mother’s element, their father’s element, or be a non-bender. @@narutosraman I think that's pretty cannon (not the Ty Lee theory) since Katara and Toph were benders without having bender parents, so they were descendants of someone that was a waterbender/earthbender or had the genes of one. Since we know you can't just learn how to bend, and we know it's genetic, either you are a bender or you aren't, the only way katara or toph can bend is because they had bender genes, so someone in their family was a bender (grandparents for example).

@singingwolf89973 жыл бұрын
I haven't really seen anyone explaining the pro bending rules yet, so I thought I'd just try to leave a rundown. Obviously, teams are made of three players, a fire, earth, and water bender. They start with equal territory on the field. They have 3 minutes each round to try and either gain as much territory on the field as they can, or knock the other players off entirely. A team can only advance if all the players on the opposing team are pushed back. The winners of a round is the team that has gained the most territory, or, if neither team has gained territory, the winner is whichever team has the most players remaining. If neither team has gained territory, and both have the same number of players, a tiebreaker is held by one member (of the same element) from each team having a faceoff. A team can win the match either by winning the most rounds, or by knocking all three opposing players out of the ring. Even if one team has won two rounds, they can still be knocked out and lose the match in the third round. As it did with Korra, players receive a penalty for stepping over the line prematurely, and for knocking opponents over the sides. There are other smaller rules regarding what each bender can and cannot do, but for the sake of brevity, I'd suggest reading the full TLOK wiki regarding the sport to get all the details. Hope this was useful, Aege.

the whole ty lee thing is up to interpretation. imo in 71 words or less is that she felt insecure about her own identity before, hence going into the circus and wanting attention (validation). at the end of atla after standing up to azula and and not letting her insecurities ruin her anymore, she did something she'd never be able to do before (joining the KW) since taking ass and kicking names, and being with girlfriends that she can actually bond with instead of fear, makes her happy.

There's also a bit of development for her maturity in the comics, which take place after season 3 of Avatar.

I think fire, water, and earth all come fairly naturally to Korra. She has been bending them all since she was a toddler. As for Toph, thats one of the points LoK detractors point towards when criticizing the show, but Toph also said she loved fighting. Ty Lee was part of a set of identical septuplets. She had 6 identical sisters. There is wide speculation that she was the descendant of airbenders. If you read the comic books, you find out what happened after the events of the show. By joining the Kyoshi warriors who all wear identical costumes, Ty Lee finally came to terms with her sisters and was able to accept being part of a "matched set." The comics also explain what happened to Zuko's mom, had a redemption story for Azula, and Toph founded a metal bending school. The comics also explained the founding of Republic City. Aang and Zuko nearly came to blows. Aang wanted all fire benders gone from the Earth Kingdom, but among the colonies, there were already a lot of earth-fire blended families that simply could not and would not be broken up. They defied Aang when he told the fire benders to leave, and Zuko sided with the blended families in the colonies. The compromise Aang and Zuko worked out led to the founding of Republic City. By then, Toph grew up a lot running her bending school, and came to Republic City to help Aang.

You mention them flexing the animation a lot. There’s actually a documentary about that on YT, one of the big things is the sheer number of drawings per episode, in most cases being 12,000+, and in action heavy eps (1e6, for example) had up to 18,000 drawings.
@yannick92083 жыл бұрын
Something i liked about Ty Lee was that she didn't want to be a part of a matching set in which you can't have some individuality, she has been living with her sisters for her entire childhood, she didn't have a choice to be in it and each girl was exactly the same when it comes to personality and appearance. At the end of ATLA, Ty Lee made the right call to be able to choose to be part of a matching set, one in which everyone is their own unique individual and still have their own personality.

Mako and bolin are different benders because their mother was from the fire nation and their father from the earth kingdom. I'm not sure if they themselves were benders but they could have had benders in their ancestors

Did you ever think about the fact Katara was a waterbender even though her brother, her parents, and gran gran were all non benders? They make genes work like real life genes pretty much. But back in the old days it was less common to have benders from other nations get together so pretty much her only bending genes would’ve been waterbending or nonbending that could pass on waterbending. There’s a neat theory that even though she was a non bender, Ty Lee could be an airbending descendent with her peaceful flowy moment characteristics. They never really got into that since her children could pass down airbending and since Tenzin’s family are the only airbenders, it kinda nips this theory in the butt unless she just didn’t have children. Also the fact there had to be more than one descendent. Idk I just wish they got into the way genes works, at least not the inbreeding ones lmao
@narutosraman3 жыл бұрын
@@fischy947 No she’s not, at least it’s not common knowledge and not on her wiki. We don’t know anything about her family but seeing as she’s a nonbender, her having airbending genes would make sense with how many airbenders she keeps popping out and how none of them are nonbenders like her, just taking her ancestors genes lmao

Your right about Mako and Bolin, one of their parents is a firebender and the other is an earthbender. That's also why Bolin talked about "assuming" Korra was a waterbender; their generation is the first to really be intermingled like this, so even they have certain "old-fashioned" expectations of peoples nationality.

TV was invented in the 1940s if I remember correctly so if we're looking as LoK being during the late 1910s to 1920s, TV aint gonna be a thing until Korra is in her 40s.

My take on the ty Lee thing is, she left her family which was a matched set because she had no choice in being a part of it. She chose to join this group of warriors that happened to all wear the same uniform. Its like friends. They're the family you get to choose.

Those other people on air bender island are acolytes: people dedicated to helping restore the air nation. The movements of pro bending and a lot of the newer fighting styles are based on MMA.
@peytonalexander53003 жыл бұрын
To the point of “they we’re definitely using some old martial arts in the bending” in ATLA, one of the main criticisms of LoK is that bending gets sort of retconned into superpowers more than a martial art. Obviously you have to learn how to control it through technique, but it’s very different than ATLA. Aang would never “accidentally” earthbend or firebend or something. These were martial and spiritual arts one had to learn in order to even begin to use them. LoK sort of changes things to where benders have access to their powers from birth, but they have to learn how to control it. It’s different, and I personally like ATLA’s version better, but it is what it is and they use it well.

You're right. Those people who wears an airbender-like outfits are not airbenders. I believe they are officially called as Air Acolytes.

Ty Lee: she gets the best of both worlds with the Kyoshi Warrior. While they dress similar, each girl has her own style and identity, plus they value her skills (acrobatics and chi blocking), so she gets that family feel without feeling lost in the mix as far as who she is.

Yes, Mako and Bolin are brothers and they bend different elements. I believe it was their father who was an earth bender and their mother who was a fire bender. So, it’s sort of a 33% split chance between getting fire, earth, or no bending at all. back in ATLA times, different types of benders mixing wasn’t too common, but now it’s different.

You can definitely tell the time frame between the two shows. In the 5 years between ATLA and LOK, animation went through such an improvement, so it was cheaper and easier to make it look good. I guarantee you if they had ATLA came out at the same time, it would have looked just as good. I also love the music. Again, I think it's something that in the 5 years between shows they just had this idea of how to do the music, wished they had it when they did ATLA, and utilized it in LOK. Also, the creators had the idea for pro bending in the original series. They were thinking of a tournament that would happen before the war started where a fire bender could fight an earth bender or a waterbender. Probably wouldn't include airbender's simply because of their pacifism. But they never used the idea so they just developed it here

Yeah, the creators said the artsy or for Korra was inspired by “1920s Shanghai/Steampunk.” TVs weren’t invented until the 1950s if I’m not mistaken and I love how they took that approach. It can leave the door open for more modern technology if a new Avatar series is made.
