I've only had one diagnosed concussion, I was riding bmx dirt jumps in the woods, went from 12ft to my face. Had a skateboard helmet on. I was in a dreamlike state for 6 hrs afterwards. To this day I feel like my life restarted that day. I still remember stuff from before it and all that, but whoa, it was strange. That was 12 years ago.

I got a concussion high siding myself at Daytona while club racing sportbikes. Lost 4 hours of my life. I have some fuzzy memories of being in the hospital, but felt like I had my eyes closed and couldnt open them. I remember checking my tire pressures just before heading out for my race and then sitting in the passenger seat of my truck with my wife driving. My wife told me that I was conscious the entire time, communicating with her and loading up my trailer and she realized something was wrong when I asked if she wanted to eat after we got passed Homestead or eat in Homestead. Thats when she decided I needed an ambo ride to the hospital to get my brain checked out. I felt exhausted and fatigued for weeks afterwards. Its really hard for me to watch these pros hit their heads these days just because I know what I went through.

53year Norwegian guy done mx 20 + years and some other fun stuff , feel my body every day knees back wrist and more , but the concussion part is worst , its not only short memory it is so mutch more to it , feel slow cant concentrate the way i want ,cant do all i want, need help somethimes with simple things that i should have done easy , slow to learn . the bad knee i can handle but its fking frustrating to feel like this , im not 100 % anymore( if i ever was ) Take head injuries serious . rest and take life easy when it happens ,stress and rushing things can prolong it with months or more

My suggestion for the SMX series. This structure would make it an actual PLAYOFF series that is comparative to other sports. Top 20 in combined points from mx and sx from each class qualify into Playoff RD 1 1st Round: 20 Riders (each class) - No Points, only Payouts - 10 Min + 2 lap Qualifying Race for Gate Position in Main - (2) 20 Min +2 lap Motos for OA in each class. - Drop bottom 5 racers (Automatically qualified for next round as alternates in case of injuries) 2nd round: 15 Riders (each class) - No points only payouts. - 10 min +2 lap qualifying race for Gate Position in Main - (2) 20 Min + 2 lap Motos for OA in each class. - Drop bottom 5 racers (Automatically qualified for next round as alternates in case of injury) Final Round "Superbowl" of SMX: 10 Riders - No points, only payouts. Winner of this race is crowned champion. - Super Pole for Gate Pick. - (2) 20 Min + 2 lap Motos for OA in each class.

For SMX they should take the last two supercross races and make them East West races. These would be the first two SMX races and then take the first two outdoor races and make them SMX races and there is you SMX series. They would not have to try to set up suspension that can't work on both kinds of tracks and would be safer for the riders. It would also shorten the season.

Head injuries are a serious issue that many are not sure how bad it may be. I did see an article years ago about Creatine Monohydrate. Body builders use it and it was also found in football athletes to lessen the trauma of head injuries. It is not an illegal substance either. We get it from red meat also but in much lower doses than what is recommended for muscle building.

I love the SMX format. Maybe we should step back and realise just how lucky we are to have so much racing throughout the year. These guys are professional athletes and only have a limited amount of time to make money and succeed in their chosen sport and they are doing what most of us would kill to have a chance at. I was kinda a crazy kid. I used to ride bmx. Between q1 1978 - 1982. We only wore helmets when racing. I had many, many cuncisions. The kind that make you puke and want to sleep. The Dr seems to think that the cuncusions are a big factor for the depression that i have suffered my whole adult life

I think that the SMX should be every two years and the MXDN should be every four years. I know I should not have to say this but I am, these two races need to be staggered to where they are never in the same year or even back to back years. Then way it gives the riders a chance to be at their best and heal at the end of the year if needed. I know Feld, AMA and MX Sports are way to money hungry to do anything like what I posted. However, I would 100% back any team that let their riders do some version of that.

A three race series where a separate championship is given out is just stupid. Especially when its at the end of the year and racers are beat up and exhausted. Crown one supercross and one motorcross champion. Add a overall championship with combined points and thats it. That encourages racers to race motorcross for the combined points and lets these riders get a break before next supercross season.

I can vouch for head injuries and the older you get the more it becomes a problem, I have had many head injuries and concussions from motocross, boxing and just being a crazy dumb kid and those injuries do catch up to you and it is not pleasant nor for the people around you at least until you learn to rewire your brain to deal with everyday life. It got so severe at one point that I was seriously thinking of ending it, I mean I couldn't hold a job down or function but the human spirit can be very powerful tool if you let it! At least now I can function with glitches instead of not functioning at all!

Last week in the post race press conference. Every top rider said they need to cut some races. It’s too much racing for them. And they need the offseason to heal and train. They don’t get much time off from racing.

@@jameshendley1975 Spoiled riders, MXGP riders do the same ammount, and travel all over the world, eat strange food and risk disease in those countries, lack off good medical help and bad facilities in many places also, but they dont complain (even though they should becouse they dont make nearly as much money as top AMA riders and AMA still complains xD
