I really don't think any of them are short on discs. I imagine they have hundreds in their vans. At least a tote full of spares. They should know stock runs well enough, only rarer occasions do they have a disc that is "perfectly" beat in. So I imagine they would be left with all stable new discs.

(spoiler alert) Tin Cup is a golf movie where the main character has the chance to win the US Open if he does the sensible thing to lay up on the 18th hole and get up and down for the win. Due to pride and other reasons you’ll understand from watching the movie, he doesn’t, and decides to keep trying to clear the water and make the green with a longer club, with the justification “I can make it across.” He continues to hit shots in the water, OB, until he only has one ball left. If he loses it, he’s disqualified. Hence his caddy’s line in this video (the funny part was left out), “Well then do it, quit f***in around.”

I think being that is an island hole it doesn't work that way. On island holes you have to stick it on fair ground. On an island it can touch fair ground and go OB and you still can't advance to where it was last in bounds. Your disc has to come to rest fair on an island.

Either the Bunker rule (currently used as an OB/island rule waiver) was in play or at that time, if you went OB you couldn't play from when it was last IB and had to rethrow (which I think is the correct assumption from what I read elsewhere).

@@nmkloster In Climo's days, OB was the same as not as landing IBs on island fairways with the bunker rule, so his disc landing OB meant he had to rethrow from his previous lie regardless of his disc crossing IBs or not.

Research is in. So, to answer the original question: no, there is no general rule for island holes that state that the disc must land on the island. Something like that can often be in play but you will never see a rule that the disc must touch the playing surface. The clip is from USDGC 2015. Hole 13 has a specific rule that say that any OB shot is previous lie only.
