@@DirtLifestyle if it comes in through customs it has to be marked country of origin or it will not be allowed to enter the usa. A way companies get around that is they buy the article in parts form and assemble it here. They call that assembled in usa from parts from various locations

I hope you enjoyed my non-scientific method of using this new Jack! These are fun videos, but definitely do your own research before you buy anything. One thing I want to make clear is that I have never received any money or endorsement from either company. I have never signed a contract with either company, AND I wasn't even asked to make this video. Companies like Harbor Freight and Pro Eagle send products to KZbinrs, hoping they will at least get seen in the background. Most of the time, I don't make a dedicated video, but I've gotten to know many of you guys over the last three years of having a youtube channel...well, I'm getting better at knowing what you want! *update! I got a comment from someone at Harbor Freight! The box says made in China 🤦‍♂️. Obviously, it would be on the box, lol. I can't believe I didn't look there. Pro Eagle has commented as well, and unfortunately, I can't pin it without losing my own comment. The Pro Eagle Jack is made in China. They have a bunch more they want to say and it's all in their comment below. To be clear, made in China doesn't mean it's a bad product to me. It means it's supporting a country that is actively taking jobs and intellectual property from America. We partnered with Yankum ropes on the fairlead specifically because they made everything here in the US. As consumers, we have a hard time choosing where our products come from. But manufacturers can. If there was an American made off-road Jack, I know many of you would buy it. But at the very least, if you buy from Mexico, Canada, Taiwan, Vietnam... anywhere but China, you aren't supporting a country that is constantly taking from countries around the world. Live your life, buy what you can afford, and try to support free countries when the option is available 🙌. From what I can tell, all Jacks are made overseas, so until we have an American option, I would buy the Badlands.

I fully agree with you. It’s the same with winches. I don’t know of a single electric winch that’s made completely in the US. So if I’m buying a Chinese one no matter what, I’m going to buy the one that is the best value, has given me the best reliability in my experience, and the one that is the easiest to warranty if I ever need to do so. I also very much agree with your point about Harbor Freight employing Americans. I’ve had people argue with me that I should be using Warn winches so that I’m supporting all the jobs and people that work for an “Oregon company” (even though they aren’t). So I looked up the numbers and found out that Harbor Freight directly employs more people in Oregon than Warn does, and then when you take into account all their stores across the US, they support VASTLY more American Families than Warn could ever dream of.

FYI - harbor freight manuals usually have a numbered diagram of parts that you can use in reference to ordering parts with the 1-800 number. The manuals are usually available by PDF on their website. For this jack the parts diagram is page 9 of the manual. The phone operators can pull up that diagram and be literally on the same page with you.

I won a 3 ton Pro Eagle in a raffle with the mount for it. I use the Pro Eagle jack in my shop and it works really well on my gravel drive way. I use it so much I wanted to get a 2nd one for work as I work on a ton of lifted Jeeps and trucks. I'm going to getting the one from Harbor Freight as soon as I see it in stock there. On the side of Pro Eagle's box it said they was made in China.

I totally agree with your stance on this. I would love to know the extra $300 is going to be American made and has met the ASME-PASE test. Even with the circumstances of the testing, another great review of the product and how it took the abuse.

Yeah some of us can’t afford to spend over 300 just because it says made in America. Idc where it’s made if I can afford it and it works I’m going to buy it. It’s good that more people are able to get into wheeling because now it’s starting to get more affordable. If it wasn’t for badlands I guarantee I wouldn’t be as hooked on off roading as I am now because it’s stuff I can afford.

Harbor Freight products have improved a lot over the years. They definitely started with cheap products but they learned how to improve them while keeping costs down. They're going in the right direction. Lots of other stores and manufacturers who had a decent product at one time have been cutting corners in the pursuit of making their products cheaper to boost profits. They are going in the wrong direction.

The fact you can flip a lever and rock the jack on the back wheels to roll it around is so handy! My pro eagle doesn't do that and if you want to push it around a corner it's not the funnest thing to do.. also the side grab handles are cool.. I want to add that to mine

I agree. An excellent improvement over the competition. The Pro Eagle Kratos has a serious competitor now. Why spend twice as much? HF has a hit a home run with the Badland floor jack.

I've been using HF stuff for years, never had issues. I definitely agree that their quality has improved. I did the 911motorsports conversion with the aluminum HF jack. It's amazing!!

I read your post and was curious about the 911 conversion. 20 years ago, we basically did the same thing, for our class 5-1600 car, from scratch with the HF 1-ton jack for about $40. I saw the price of $235 and couldn't imagine why someone would spend that much for something you can do with some parts from McMaster-Carr and Home Depot. Granted, the 911 kit is slick looking, and may be better suited for the less handy folk, but anyone playing off road should have enough fabrication sense to do this themselves.

It’s nice to see the jack isn’t a direct copy. Harbor Freight has definitely stepped it up with this. The extension looks to be an improvement, but I still prefer the one we manufacture in America! Our big wheel conversions are going to be a little harder sell now, but we do make them for other jack brands and offer them in different sizes. We also have a simple vehicle mount that will possibly work with this jack too.

Glad y'all made one specifically for this jack. This video was what put me over the edge on buying it. And it's only 50 bucks to boot, I'm sold. That is the one thing I don't like more than anything on this jack. I have it in the back of my 4runner and it's so heavy that nothing I do can keep it in place and from rolling (even tried putting tire chocks behind it lol).

Harbour Freight has some great stuff especially for a DIYer. For tools to use in the shop/home, heat shrink, apache cases, etc. I have had some great success with their products.

100% unless you are a professional mechanic, you don't need super expensive tools like Snap on. HF tools are great for the occasional DIYer. I have a few HF jacks and jack stands that have been flawless for ten plus years.

all of my tools from high school are from harbor freight. all Pittsburgh and some craftsman. I have pittsburgh jackstands and a 3 ton pittsburgh jack. (jackstands are from BEFORE the recall, theyre the good ones, as been proven since they havnt killed me yet). Ive had these tools for over....6 years now and they just used like 2 weeks ago to pull an engine out of a honda Fit. people hate on harbor freight because "cheap" but i like cheap where its still giving me my moneys worth.

I have the pro eagle “the beast” jack and I love it. Have had it for almost two years and have put it through heavy use. It is made in china. The thing that ppl might be missing is that this was our only option in the market for a bit as an “off road” jack so technically we paid for what is tried and true and at the time the best option. I agree it’s expensive but what isn’t these days that’s valuable. Time will tell on the longevity of the badland. Great review 🤙

No the parts are different. Also the wheels are held on with nuts instead stupid clips that get lost when popped off. The lift extension is bolted on instead of twisted on. I love it so far. Pro Eagle claims theirs is made in the USA, well i am sorry but i haven't seen much quality coming out of the USA lately and i live there.

I saw a bunch of the new jack stands from Harbor Freight at sema. They welded the bottom of the seam that was failing and made a couple of other small but significant changes. It's clear that they want to improve the products and change their image. The good news is as consumers, we win.

I agree with you take on harbor freight products in general, I have a probably 20 year old HF floor jack and recently bough their low profile floor jack and there is no comparison between the two. They still have the cheap and questionable quality products but they also have upped there game in a lot of ways on other products.

One of your rock crawling buddies over at Muddy Beards bought a kit from 911 Motorsports and converted a Harbor freight racing jack into a big wheel off road jack. I couldn't resist, it was so easy I bought a 100 dollar HF jack, ordered the conversion kit and built my own unit. So far a year later and I've had no issues with the jack, works perfectly. I think I paid 130 bucks for the 911 Motorsports kit plus the price of the jack, so it only cost me 230 dollars plus tax.

I have been using the green Daytona jack from harbor freight and the 911 moyorsports off road jack kit. I love it for its size. Packs away very well.

FACT I have been shopping at Harbor Freight for 35 to 40 years. And at the beginning 97% of the stuff they sold was junk. hey slowly got better over the years. Now 75-80% of what they sell is good and the prices are great. Harbor Freight is consistently hitting Home Runs. Well Done.

Been using Harbor Freight’s Daytona 3 Ton Floor Jack for a while now and it’s a fantastic jack for under 2 bills. Don’t quote me but I read somewhere once that it’s 99% the same thing as the equivalent Snap-On jack. They have some nice stuff (not everything) and that off-road Jack looks pretty legit. @@adidas4275 not even a rip off, harbor freight found the same factory that was building the snap-on Jack and had them build the Daytona Jack. Snap-on didn't want people to figure out they were paying 1200 bucks for a china jack. Recently they've made the jacks in the us now for about 3 years

Are Pro-Eagle Jacks MADE in America or ASSEMBLED in America? They are suspiciously not promoting their manufacturing facilities or locations of orgin... Maybe they manufacture the mounting plates, standard jack accessories, lift extensions, etc. in America... But they definitely aren't machining valves and cylinders for hydraulic jacks... So who and where actually does? 🤔 Although I do prefer American companies that use profits to support people within their market, Pro-Eagle does do that to some extent... Much like Vortex optics, they sell TONS of Chinese glass (and some European/American made products) vs. other brands, but they spend alot of potential profits sponsoring events, competitions, individuals, and charities... I suspect HF will soon adopt similar sponsorship practices if some of these new product lines are wildy successful.

It's no secret that Chinese factories often have the name brand product go out the front door and the knockoff go out the back door. It wouldn't surprise me if these were built in the same factory on the same plans with only slight differences in materials and build. Nice review and the Badlands looks like a solid product.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but I’ve been using the Harbor Feight Jacks for a very long time. They’ve always in my opinion been one of there best quality tools. Never had an issue. Have several of the Daytona aluminum low profiles. Excellent jacks.

I have the 3 ton, I hate it. It’s cumbersome and it’s a pain to move around. I use my Pittsburgh 4 ton more often. I really like the handle lockout to then move the jack around that comes on the Badlands. Pro Eagle have priced them out of being competitive.

I just purchased this jack and man this thing is huge !! I have a Nos 3 ton Aluminum Jack for my lowered vehicle and this Badland is a beast next to it! Definitely a good jack so far. Btw I got a 10% discount last week when I purchased . They had a store wide sale and paid $270. Not bad if you ask me!

Harbor freight really has stepped up their game the last few years. It's good to see them continue to progress in the quality department rather than just sit idol making profits off of cheap junk. Sears/Craftsman failed because they got greedy by increasing prices and reducing quality. I remember the day that all my newer sockets started splitting only to be really disappointed when I noticed it was now being manufactured in China. Good job calling out Eagle on their potentially over priced Chinese product. Most logical people understand that we can't make everything in the US but we also understand that you need to stay competitive and honest to succeed. Its good to see another company give Pro Eagle a run for their money. Throwing the jack out into snow didn't test much. I was thinking you were going to throw it out at 65 onto pavement. it looks like it would survive this just fine though.

Being an owner of a Pro Eagle Jack for the last 3 years or so now, this is a video I was excited to see. I bought it back when it was under $500, so the price difference wasn’t as drastic, but it was still super expensive compared to the harbor freight. I personally have no idea if the pro eagle is made in America. If it is then I’d love to know and I’d feel a hell of a lot better knowing I spent the money on it. I’m a big fan of the pro eagle, but I do completely agree on your viewpoint in the end.

I have a HF Jack I purchased while in tech school. It got me through almost two years of wrenching to make money as a side hustle. Still have it to this day and it still works just as good as the day I bought it, bout ten years. Still picks up my full-size bronco and holds still without dropping every single time. I’ll go with the HF Jack on this one. Thanks for the video bud. Mines a steel body, my buddy got a nice aluminum one about same time I got mine. Didn’t last long, they may be better now.

I got my first HF floor jack when I turned 17. That was in 1980. A 3 ton with a set of stands. I'm still using them today. I have had to replace the seals a couple times. This new big wheel jack is something I'm going to need to pick up.

I'm a general contractor and I have tons of tools. Some harbor freight, some Milwaukee and DeWalt. I honestly have harbor freight stuff that has outworked and outlasted the others. For the most part, I totally trust HF

Videos like these are so important for the average Joe when dropping hard earned cash to buy a product. No one wants to buy high priced hype that doesn't work and may be dangerous to use. Someone might have already commented, but I just measured the wall thickness on the 3ton ProEagle and it comes up to 7/16", so thicker than the 2ton and slightly thicker than the 3ton Badlands. Also, I am just east of Seattle if you want to take the 3ton for a spin around the block. let me know.

Thank you for the video and taking all of our crazy testing ideas. I’ve been in the market for one of these this year but had a hard time justifying the Pro Eagle price tag. I appreciate you calling on manufacturers for more transparency. I, too, am happy to pay a premium for Made in U.S.A. products when I can afford it. Sadly, my default assumption is that if they don’t shout about it, then it’s probably not made in America. And don’t let the haters get to you. If a company is going to be mad at you for being honest, rather than taking the feedback and learning from it, then that just reflects badly on them, not you. Never give up your integrity and never surrender to sell-outs. 🤘

I personally detest lots of 3rd party racket tests and totally understand if a company refuses to give ridiculous amounts of money to get a stamp. I think their reputation speaks for itself. In the business I'm in there's a national private "certification" and I will never give them a dime due to the cons and subpar contractors flying their banner. That being said, I'd go the badlands route all day if I was in need for another jack. Very well done Nate, thank you for sharing. Wish you'd do more 2d hard wheeling vides again.

Yeah over the past few years Harbor Freight has gone from the place to pick up throw away tools for 1-2 jobs to really making some quality items. My badlands winch has gotten me outta some nasty spots and even drug me about a mile in a dead truck, off a trail. I've been wanting a jack like this cause I don't always wanna break out my "not hi-lift" may have to take a look at this one myself

Here I am modifying HF 2ton jacks with their 1100 lb 10” wheels and having no problems. Cheap, easy, works mint. 4130 axles and some aluminum plate. Great video! Nice and simple testing, and great callout to the manufacturers!

Pro Eagles are made in Taiwan. I had the same question and was surprised to see that in the US they only had a warehouse, no manufacturing. Do they make small batches that are “assembled” in the US for specific government contracts, but all parts come from their manufacturer in Taiwan. I think it’s also written on the boxes too.

If ANYTHING were built in the USA it would be advertised all over the packaging and website. Plain and simple. If I had to speculate, PE was obviously first. HF is just bigger and can can access resources more cost effectively. Both seem to have good products.

I recently ordered some replacement parts for my compressor from harbor freight and it was dead simple. They have diagrams on their website with part numbers, so when you call in there’s no need to try and explain what it is, they’ll know exactly what you’re talking about.

Great review. The quality of Chinese products like this largely comes down to requirements coming from the R&D guys sitting in America. As part of the PPAP a reputable company would require (and verify!) chemical analysis and mechanical strength of the components, good quality seals, adequate precision and surface finish and then perform release testing for durability, chemical resistance (salt spray), high/low temperature function, etc. China can churn out decent stuff when there are very clear requirements and verification by the customer.

I agree with this, coming from the machine tooling and automation industry, the big Chinese machine shops can and will make good parts to exact specs. There is enough competition over there and in the US that if a shop tries to lie/cheat on the print specs, there are 5 more shops that are willing and capable to make the part to print. The company I work for (Complete Control Systems) still makes 99% of our parts in-house but a lot of other machine builders are designing machines, sending print packets to Chinese machine shops and getting back their machines in kit form.

Quality standard is usually up to the company that is buying the product from the manufacturer. These manufacturers have to adhere to whatever standard the buyer/company sets forth. Where it’s made is really a moot point. Hell, I’m typing this on an iPhone made by an underpaid worker in basically a sweat shop and I don’t question the quality of it whatsoever.

Yup. Way back in the day (I don't know if this is still the case) I knew someone that did a teardown of an Oppo phone (this was 2013-2014ish) - it was surprisingly well made, physical design was better than almost any phone on the market. Too bad their software sucked - Oppo did have some efforts along those regards (including cooperating with Western developer teams) but they suddenly lost interest in catering to Western customers. With this thing - no software, so THAT problem is solved.

Awesome video. And you are 110% correct. Where a product is built is definitely a deciding factor. If both are made over seas? I’ll be buying the Harbor Freight. If the Pro Eagle is made in the states, I will happily buy a Pro Eagle.

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this, but I shop for price/warranty regardless of where the product is made and here is why. There is NO reason that we can't beat import prices on manufactured goods coming from any country in the world. We have access to the best manufacturing technology and equipment on the planet. And IMHO the best work force on the planet. There is no reason we can't beat foreign prices. All the rest is about profit and greed. Many of the same companies that are praying on our "buy American" spirit have and are invested in overseas manufacturing. They are playing both sides against the middle and Americans are paying the price. IMHO. Great job on the review Nate. God bless, stay well.

Our workforce thats coming isn't worth its weight in fertilizer. We have to teach people in their 20s how to sweep and do dishes at the restaurant my family owns. Unions also keep manufactures from competing with over seas.

Iwent to Horrid Fright today for the first time in years and was quite surprised to the improved selection and better quality of many things. Trouble is, the prices on some things are now as higher or higher than some better name-brands, while the quality is not quite there still. Ipicked up this jack (Went specifically for it) as "regular" jacks are useless to me, as I work exclusively on gravel and grass. This thing'll be a game-changer for me!

Interesting video! I did some research - Pro Eagle is actually a d.b.a. for Austin International Manufacturing, Inc. - who specializes in importing Chinese products into US market. So yeah, pretty safe to say, Pro Eagle is imported. They claim to specialize in Taiwan imports but looking at recent import logs its pretty much all Chinese. Clearly both are buying from the same caster supplier - so if I had to guess the same plant is making both or at least their caster (wheel) supplier isn't far from both assembly plants.
