For those struggling with the microphonic cable, there's an easy solution. Make two small loops as close as possible to the ear cup. You've essentially created a vibration-absorbing coil. Just don't pull them tight, because you could damage the wiring.

Hi Josh. I think the good positioning comes mainly from the matched drivers. The differences between different pairs i guess comes also from the process of matching the drivers. Having a bunch of drivers with some variance between them, they probably pair the ones that sound very similar between them, resulting in pairs with the same variance, that sound different to other pairs. It's probably a choice they had to make to keep the price down

I found the treble extension to be smooth and a little rolled off. I was concerned from some of the reviews that it might sound veiled, but I find the treble quite enjoyable. soundstage is on the smaller size, but it is very natural and accurate in timbre. The unit i received is very enjoyable for music listening. piano's sound so natural and this doesn't always happen even on expensive headphone sets. Prefer it over the dt770. Thanks for the detailed review. It's a real shame if their are such wide variants. Hopefully this was only a fluke.

From what graphs show, it's slight mid bass boosted and the highs are rolled off. Which makes it not very good for studio and mixing use imo.... The build quality is stunning but the sound looks pretty subpar unfortunately.

@@ubacow7109 I think the small bass boost and the 'veiled' highs when listening to this headphone makes them quite good for mixing. I feel like these characteristics are what make these headphones sound more like a pair of studio monitors in a room. My theory is that that flat studio monitors have a 'house curve' when placed in a room. This is important for me when mixing than a graphically flat sound signature. I can't think of any studio monitors that sound like the DT770 for comparison.

@@ubacow7109 I’ve heard these Rode headphones and they don’t sound like Mix cubes. Mix cubes have a huge bass roll off andan earlier high roll off resulting in them sounding like a band pass filter. The treble isnt sparkling on the headphones. Treble is certainly still there just perhaps a little warmer side but they aren’t ‘dark’ headphones. As someone that produces music it’s important to learn your headphones. If these headphones do you sound too dark to you though I would recommend trying the DT 700 pro X. More expensive but just flat out flatter than the DT770 and a bit brighter than these Rodes I’m not sure why you mentioned mono as I didn’t mean to make any reference to stereo imaging. Headphones are binaural so they well never sound like a true pair of speakers. I have had good success using crosstalk crossfeed plugins as a simulation.

Overall a great review! However, I don’t mean for this to sound petty, but with the headphones being only $150, is there a reason why you didn’t decide to get a second pair to compare? Reviewing a product and saying “it seems like we have varied units - who knows” devalues the review a fair bit in my eyes. Love the transparency, just feels like it wouldn’t have been hard to potential solve this concern. Having 2 units and possibly concluding “yeah, there’s a QC variance here” or “these match well” provides a ton of value. I think this community especially hugely appreciate folks who show that kind of due diligence, which I would say in many cases, you provide. Cheers!

I've only heard of "Rodee" for the past 20 years from recording professionals...were they pronouncing it wrong?

For home listening, several reviews indicate substantial low frequency distortion and some compression which could tend to further "darken" timbre at higher levels for an already bass heavy or treble weak signature. (?) (Its distortion graphs don't look as poor as Sony's MDR7506) The Rode certainly looks well made tho the single point yoke looks as it could be weaker than two support points. (?)

The DT 770 pro 80 ohm are better in my opinion. They are more comfortable and the sound stage is better.

Treble is very forward for me. It seems like it is for most people that have listened.

If you hear any sparkle i would be amazed. I was unable to detect any sybilance with these. Not a good thing when I know with more expensive headphones that I have allot of sibilance in my voice. These made the RE320 sound warm haha.

Thoughts on IEM's VS open back headphones for gaming?

The nth-100 I had was on the dark side on the sound signature. A few months back the adjustment mechanism completely disintegrated. It was such a hassle dealing with Rode on the warranty a got frustrated and threw the damned things away. Buyer beware….it is a known flaw with the design that has not been addressed by Rode the manufacturer. Shame on Rode..!

It’s funny … I’m seeing this new pattern… of reviewers “ qualifying “ that maybe just the pair send to me doesn’t have good treble. I mean isn’t the QC there or not?….. Are reviewers just appeasing the companies ….in return for gear being “sent”?
