That’s a completely different scenario. The first statement “if you don’t like abortions, don’t get one” she combatted with “if you don’t like guns don’t get one”. But even then those statements aren’t equivalent. We are given the right to gun ownership in the constitution, we don’t have a right to abortion. The great debate is, should we have that right? It comes down to whether you think abortion is ending a life and/or if it’s morally justified to intentionally end a pregnancy. With guns, they are weapons but they are not dangerous, it’s the people who handle them. We have rules set up for guns, if you kill someone with it, it can either be morally justified in self-defense or your actions aren’t justified and you’ve committed murder. For both gun violence and abortion, case by case is the best way to analyze. Some abortions are justified. I think a lot of messages get lost in the middle but abortions should be safe, legal, and rare.

It drives me crazy how people will just assume that having an abortion is just an easy shrug. For most people, it’s an extremely upsetting and difficult decision. Most of these people are in a lot of pain, on top of being accosted by strangers sticking their nose into a choice they are no part of.

Literally. I have a friend who **needed** one, because if she carried to term, she would've died from liver failure. She was so distraught and beyond upset for weeks before and after, cause she knew it could've been her first baby boy. She already has two gorgeous girls, so she's already "done her job" according to the "right". I have an 8 year old sister, who's developing rapidly. She could ov any day, Gods and Goddesses I pray, forbid anything happens to her, but if she's assaulted, she could easily get pregnant (high fertility runs in both sides of her parentage). Even teenage pregnancy is high risk, child pregnancy is mostly fatal. I have a cousin with Endo, if she gets pregnant and it's ectopic, which is much more likely in her case, she will die without an abortion. So many reasons. Even my older sister, who has decided not to have children has an entirely valid reason to have one. She'd be a terrible mother (not on purpose, she would just get triggered a lot easier) due to the trauma she and I sustained from our father. She used to hit me, while I internalised. And if I got pregnant, even though I desperately want children, I wouldn't want them to be born yet to a mother who doesn't have their shit together. I want to go to therapy first, build a home, have stable enough finances. I want my children, and all children for that matter, born into love, not obligation, not abuse, not neglect, not poverty. Love.

I feel like something that people tend to overlook is the fact that if you force someone to carry a child to term, you're creating a situation where that child could grow up being neglected or abused because their parent didn't want them in the first place. That, and/or they could grow up not having all the things they need (food, shelter, clothes, etc.) because their parent wasn't ready to bring a child into the world in the first place. The question shouldn't be "is a fetus a baby". The question should be "what kind of life is this child going to have if it's carried to term"

Hi, I totally understand where you're coming from. Growing up in a family that has less money has been very difficult and i know how scary it can be. However, I think we can meet at a middle ground here. I have a few honest questions for you (feel free to answer them or not, but just make sure you think about them:).1) So with that logic, do you think that, all of the family's who are in those difficult situations should kill their children because their life is difficult? 2) Do you think that a life is not worth protecting because it will be hard? 3) Do you think we should go around killing homeless people because their lives are hard and they don't have the resources they need to live a good healthy life? 4) In addition to this what mother worth herself would kill her own child just to make sure that the child/she herself won't have a ''difficult life''? Well I've come to a conclusion to this myself from a moral standpoint, and that is, being ripped out of your own mothers womb or (from the mothers prospective) killing your child is much more difficult and painful then having less money... There are pregnancy centers across the nation that are willing to provide things like food, toiletries or any other things that women in crisis pregnancies will need. Killing your child is not a solution. It will only add to the trauma of this situation. Existence is better then non-existence.
@whatevermatewhatevermate6638
@whatevermatewhatevermate6638 Жыл бұрын
@Carmela Kosmalski I think you're missing the point, my guy. Once someone is out of the womb and is living their life, there is no good reason to kill them. Full stop. However, if you live in a country where "pulling yourself up by your bootstraps" is a fairytale used to prevent legislation that would allow people to rise out of poverty, you start to feel apprehensive about having children. How could you, in good conscience, bring life into the world knowing that you're not going to be able to provide for it? So, in that sense, I believe that people should be allowed to have access to abortions regardless of their social status/class position. If we had more social safety nets for all people, as well as more access to reproductive health resources/education, there would be less need for abortions altogether. Some people simply can't provide financially for a child, while others are simply too young to be having a child in the first place. Some have underlying conditions that would make pregnancy/child-rearing extremely difficult. I mean the list goes on. Restricting access further just makes things harder for everyone, and the child born from that struggle is just gonna have to sit and suffer until they're finally old enough to try and help themselves.
@ashitakedia5814

As a non American I don’t even get the foetus and baby debate because the foetus isn’t formed until the eleventh week of pregnancy so then why is the abortion cap 6 weeks if it’s all about the foetus. I could be wrong about the law but this is just what I have seen on the internet.

My abusive conservative Christian parents joined a Christian fundamentalist cult when I was 6. I was raised pro-life, anti-vax, and in so many other conspiracy theories, and I was homeschooled my entire school education and taught creationism (insert Kent Hovind). I got married to a man in the cult when I was 19, and started questioning things I was taught (most notably resulting in my absolute apathy on whether or not immigrants come to the U.S. "legally" because they're just people trying to live their lives, and how is that mine or anybody's business?). I left the cult (much to the chagrin of my husband who actually threatened to kill himself), and 3 weeks later I left him. It took around 6 to 12 months of me living in the real world to realize what being poor is (I left my husband, family, my community/the cult with pretty much nothing), that privilege and white supremacy are a thing (for context, I was taught the South should've won the Civil War, and that "reverse racism" was a thing...to anyone needing education in that area, I recommend the book called "How To Be Less Stupid About Race"), the fact that I'm queer, and that someone choosing to get an abortion doesn't affect me and is none of my business. What followed shortly after was mine and my husband's divorce, a charged political conversation where I actually stood up to my dad for the first time, I came out to my family as a lesbian, I discovered I'm also nonbinary (never bothered to come out to my family in that aspect), I lost my faith/belief in God's existence, realized that gun control is a fucking *necessity,* I started going to therapy after driving myself to the hospital during a suicidal period after leaving 2 sets of toxic friend groups, I met good people shortly after who are my best friends to this day, Started studying evolution/evolutionary biology and just the barest understanding convinced me that scientists actually have evidence and know wtf they're talking about, Oh, and I cut complete contact with my family because any contact with them sends my mental health spiraling. As a citizen of our country you are automatically a donor if you die like in a car crash or something. If you do not want your organs to be donated, you can ask for putting your name on a special list of people who do not want to donate. I just do not get it why in the US you have to ask for the opposite thing. If I was dead I would no longer care about my body, if it can help survive someone else, I’d be so happy.

I have had an abortion. It was the best thing for me to do at the time. I have never regretted it. A year after that I got pregnant again and was planning on having another abortion, but I didn’t do it in time for my personal comfort, so I carried the baby to term. I love my child so much and I’m so glad I didn’t abort them. But I still have no regrets about the abortion I had. If I had carried that pregnancy to term also, I probably wouldn’t be here today. People need to understand the harm it does to the child if they are unwanted. Even if you do not give a single shit about the life or well-being of the person carrying the pregnancy but you "care" about the potential child, understand this being born when you are unwanted is one of the worst feelings in the world. Growing up your entire life knowing that your parents don't love you even from the age of like 2 or 3 hurts so much, especially when you are young because you won't be able to understand why. I'm saying this from personal experience, I tried to k*ll myself at the age of 7 because I thought that I was a horrible awful burden to everyone in my life and that no one would ever be able to love me. That is the harm that comes from having a child that is unwanted. That is one of the many reasons why you should only bring a kid into this world if you actually want them. Its taken me years to unlearn the hatred I had for myself as a child, to work on my depression and anxiety, and in general, understand that I am enough and people who know that are the ones that are important. All of those issues came from being a child who was not wanted or loved by their parents and that is what you are condemning these children to if you force people to carry a pregnancy to term. It does not matter if you think you are "saving" them from pain in reality you are just causing them more pain and don't even start on adoption or foster care because the amount of trauma that those kids go through is insane. If you don't believe me I suggest you look up stats on the s**cide(attempt and success) rates, the rates of mental health issues in general that kids growing up in the foster care system experience, and the rates of ab*se(s*xual and physical) that foster/adopted kids experience there is no "better alternative" for the potential child. If their parents don't want kids then they shouldn't give birth to a child. (censoring words so youtube will allow me to post)

Adding to this, even if parents do love their child they didn't want, it can still cause harm to the child. Especially if they have a sibling who was planned. Speaking from my experience, my parents have always been fairly distant and a bit neglectful for most of my childhood. They clearly love my little sister more and it causes me so much pain knowing I'll never have that kind of love from them. My parents have gotten better and I get that they weren't really ready to have a kid when they had me, but every time I'm in a low place I end up spiraling over the fact my parents never wanted me. It is genuinely so painful

15:00 Notice something she left out? Something that specifically undermines the "Pro-Life" (Pro-Forced Birth) argument about "adoption and the foster system existing"? She leaves out the fact that the legalization of abortion had a *direct causation* upon the number of unwanted children in the government/adoption system... specifically, it *drastically reduced the number of UNWANTED children in the system.* In turn, it reduced the number of children who aged out of the system vs being adopted out of it. She also ignores the fact that if even a *fraction* Pro-Birth individuals _even APPLIED_ to adopt or foster, the number of children in state care would be drastically reduced- _or would even fall to zero._ However, the reality is that not only do the overwhelming majority of Pro-Birth people *not* adopt, but: 1. Many of those who do have internalized beliefs that their biological children are superior to their adopted children, and that the bond with biological children is similarly superior. 2. Many of them not only refuse to even consider adoption, but actively campaign for laws that keep children in the adoption and government care system, rather than 'risk' those children be adopted by people who fufill all requirements to apply, but belong to demographics _they dislike- such as gay or transgender individuals; people who belong to different religions _or even just different denominations_ than they do; or that would create mix race race families. 3. Many of them also oppose the social programs that support children in government, adoption, or foster care, or that would alleviate the transitional difficulties of the children that age out of government to being adults (which is the majority.) 4. Likewise, they ignore the fact that the children least likely to be adopted are those who they frequently seek to oppress- meaning LGBT+ children and teens. Of course, they insist that it doesn't matter if they refuse to adopt the children they say can simply be adopted; they insist it doesn't matter that they oppose programs that support the children they force people to birth; they insist it doesn't matter that they pushed for laws to trap within the government care system the children they forced the birth of. To them, the only thing that matters is that they forced the birth of those children. That's the only thing they have to do to be considered 'moral.' Everything else isn't their fault, even though they're the ones taking those things away after they used the existence of them to justify forcing people to be little more than incubators for pregnancies that Pro-Birth individuals immediately think should have never been born. Logic doesn't matter to them. They just want to feel like they're doing something 'good' without having to actually put any effort into it. If their "good" means forcing people through a horrific and traumatic experience that can be fatal, just to immediately blame both generations of their victims for existing? That's not REALLY _their_ problem, they just forced that problem upon those individuals. Their empathy, sense of responsibility to 'protect life,' and ability to think about that 'life' ends as soon as it is actually a person.

Because once it's an actual person, actually caring about it becomes difficult. Actual people actually need things, like resources, and care, and love, and caring about them might make you question your morals. But an embryo? They aren't the mother, they don't have to sacrifice anything. An embryo can be imagined to have any traits they'd like it to have, they can think of it as a saint, they can assume it'll be "perfect". And once it's born, it's no longer an embryo, so they no longer care.

The reason for the loose definition of 'oppression' that so many Christians- I would go as far as to say the majority, though the majority may not go to the same extremes- use, relates to the fact that they use the idea that they are being 'oppressed' as 'evidence of their faith' and thus 'evidence of moral superiority.' It creates a _vicious_ feedback loop in many Christians. They resort to creating perceived slights (like people who aren't Christians having the audacity to exist in the same space as them) in order to prop up their identity as a Christian without having to do something that would take _actual_ effort. They then use this 'reinforced' Christian identity to prop up their personal identity of being 'morally superior' and thus 'being more valuable' as a person than those who are not Christians. Basically, they consider 'being oppressed' as evidence that they're 'better people' because of the links between persecution of Christians in the Bible and the 'moral superiority' of the faith. Nevermind that they are not only ignoring all of the acts that were done by earlier Christianity that created the implication of being more moral; or the sections of the Bible that support *horribly* immoral things. Also irrelevant is the fact that they don't apply the same concept that "persecution = moral superiority" to anyone other than them, and _absolutely_ not to the demographics they themselves oppress. Basically, the more they have it pointed out to them that, "hey, you're forcing your faith on us with laws while crying about how us _existing_ is us oppressing you. That's pretty crappy, immoral, and hypocritical." the more they double down on the idea that they're the ones being oppressed and thus 'morally superior,' because it's the only thing they have to justify being such horrible people with- because it would be too much work to _actually_ follow their own religion.

As another example, from some stories I've read a few years ago. A public school decided to accommodate Muslim students by giving them one room to pray in private during their designated time. No one was forced to use it, if a Muslim student preferred to pray right where they were they could, no non-muslim student had to enter the room during prayer time, and the school was careful in making sure that no classes would be interrupted. It was reported as a violation and painted as if everyone was made to use the room. A private room. With 20 people in it. That no one had to come into. A different public school decided that they weren't going to have a prayer over the loud speaker before a football game. Anyone could still pray if they wanted to, just not over the loud speaker. It was painted as Christianity being banned.

yeah, I'm kinda in the same situation right now as well! I'm not religious, but my family is, and I've attended a Christian school my entire life. Bible class is always interesting because my class all has different opinions and viewpoints, but living in a mainly pro-life and right-wing area has deeply affected them and they all just kind of have the same views now. Whenever we have discussions, they aren't very respectful toward other cultures and religions, which sucks. One time we were talking about bringing other people to Christianity, and long story short, I definitely do not feel safe telling anyone in my class about my not being a Christian. Something you said made me think of a funny story. So for some context, I'm homeschooled and live in the southern US, so the community here is pretty saturated in evangelical Christianity. Another thing is I've been dying my hair at home for a few years now, I'm a natural brunette, use box dye at home, and don't bleach so it usually comes out a dark red or pink and fades to copper after a couple of months. Last year, I tried out for madrigals in the choir I participate in, didn't end up getting in for reasons unrelated to this story, after my audition the director said I had a good voice but then asked if she could ask a personal question. I told her to go ahead, and she got real close and whispered "Why do you dye your hair?" I think I answered something along the lines of "Because I like how it looks" and she said "Well I think God likes the hair color he gave you." Take that as you will, I thought it was hilarious, especially considering I heavily suspect this lady lightens her hair or dyes her gray hairs to get that angelic blonde while being almost 70.

So i have to attend this religious class(aka Christianity preaching) and the current teacher/pastor I have is migraine inducing. Like every week he'll come up with new stuff to say to hate on people. He's homophobic, transphobic and prolife and has gone into detail how it's the right thing. But an interesting detail I've spotted is he'll literally like misinturpet things from writings and what not just to make his point. I mean god said love everyone, not just people you've decided fit the box of living a good christian life.

I hate my church's pastor. No matter what the topic of the actual reading is, he'll ALWAYS, without fail, find some way to bring the point back around to how "abortion is murder" and "trans people are indoctrinating children" while me and my alter serving buddy (both of us being trans, by the way) just have to sit there and listen to it. Like, seriously, if you care about "preserving life" so much, maybe you could make life just a little bit easier to take for the suicidal trans kid that if forced to come to mass every Sunday.

My former coworker was so happy to be finally pregnant after years of trying. She ignored the stomach cramps and spotting she found for days until our boss had to drag her into the ER. "the right to life trumps bodily autonomy." Except there is no right to life at the expense of another. You have no right to life if that life is dependent on another person's body. Its not a matter of hierarchy, its a matter of rights conflicting with one another. "Its considered a failed abortion if the life isn't taken in the procedure." Source? incomplete abortions refer to miscarriages where products of conception have not been expelled properly. The life of the fetus in not considered in this process because the pregnant person's life is the one actually at stake because they will die of sepsis if the fetus is not removed properly. So sure, its not considered a successful abortion if the fetus doesn't die, because the doctor's actually care about the life of the pregnant person. *referring to buying tampons* "My culture is not your costume" since when is buying tampons a culture???

Another thing I wanna point out is that guns make it easy for *anyone* to kill. To physically harm someone without a gun, using basically literally any other weapon, you have to have the physical strength to do so, and it can very quickly be near impossible to do just because your body can't keep up with the exertion. one thing to say to prolifers, do you remember when you were in the womb? do you remember being a fetus? if you can't, you weren't sentient. you didn't think anything, you didn't feel anything. if my mom got an abortion during her time before me, i wouldn't have known since i wasn't sentient.

I actually saw the woman who bought tampons in someone else’s commentary video. In that other video she said she was in a public restroom and could give a tampon to another woman who needed one. She said she’ll always carry tampons now in case any other woman ever needs one. So yeah, that’s what she does with them. Obviously very horrible and creepy, right? /irony

the best way to get through to a pro-life person is to meet them at their level in the sense that they believe life begins at conception. i say to pro-lifers that i believe birth is sacred, and if they agree, why do they believe pregnancies should be forced by the government? childbirth IS sacred, and it should only occur when someone is ready to care for said child or willing to put them into the foster care system. pregnancy should NEVER be forced, in my opinion this is the best way to win over pro-lifers

I agree with you but comparing embryos with plants is completely inaccurate. Like, it is even disrespectful to plants given how they can fend for themselves, communicate with each other and, heck, they can literally make food out of thin air and a human enbryo of less than 14 weeks could never do that

Since this comment section is far more civil than Instagram. “Adoption and foster care exists” - I have heard so many stories from people that were in foster care and the system, and most have said it’s pretty ducked up. Isn’t it more fair to get rid of that life before it can suffer in the actual world knowing it wasn’t wanted by its parent, and potentially being abused? And if adoption / foster care isn’t an option, do you want a parent to raise a child in an environment that isn’t ideal / in an environment where they may be abused or neglected by a parent that never wanted them? “I think women should only be able to get an abortion if [insert reason that only includes being violated]” - My opinion is regardless of the reason, a person that doesn’t want a baby inside of them should not have to carry it to full term. Even if it wasn’t due to being assaulted, nobody should ever be forced to give birth. Heck, even if it’s just convenient to abort a baby, why should we dictate what somebody can and can’t do with their body? “Just don’t make a baby” / “Use protection” - Not everybody gets to choose if they want a baby, and not all protection / contraception works. Even if schools do more to teach about safe seggs, safety precautions can still fail and lead to an unplanned pregnancy. Also, it pisses me off that banning abortions won’t get rid of them, people will just resort to more dangerous methods (and possibly killing both the fetus and parent). And literally just… don’t get an abortion if you don’t want one?

The “we like masculinity” thing has always been weird to me. I am afab and I grew up in what was essentially a matriarchy (I lived with my grandma and mother and My great grandmother lived 10 minutes from us; men were rarely if ever present in our lives). I was toxically masculine. My mother was overly emotional and would often get hurt from it (especially since my grandmother used guilt tripping and emotional manipulation to get her way) and from a young age I had to be “strong” and manage her feelings before my own which lead to me suppressing my own feelings to be able to manage hers. Due to this the only “emotions” I could feel were instinctual ones: so panic and anger. But because I wasn’t dealing with my emotions and instead was bottling them up, the times I would experience anger or panic would be much much stronger and more uncontrollable. Had white flashes of pure rage and it almost got people hurt a few times. It wasn’t until I learned to deal with my emotions, to let myself just react to stuff and learned to talk things out, to tell people what’s bothering me or if I could deal with their emotions that I no longer had anger issues. I am still dealing with this, I am still trying to better myself. I want to be kind and not mean, I want to be loving and caring, to myself and others.

The tampon one triggered me so much omg I was immediately like "UM SHE'S GONNA HAVE THEM FOR FRIENDS N STUFF, NO!? SHE'S NOT GONNA THROW THEM AWAY!!" its so dumb- (I'm a trans guy, I use tampons, I am a forgetful ass person, I would so appreciate anyone having them on hand-)

What’s interesting is on the surface both of my parents seem pretty conservative. I’ve asked them about their thoughts on trans people and both of my parents are like “who cares - let them live how they want! Jesus made them that way and they can express however they want to.” My parents said the same about me when I started dressing goth. People can present however the want.

"why are you buying tampons to throw them away?" bitch, she's buying them FOR those who cannot afford them. I'd give anything to live in a world where I could ask anyone for a spare tampon and be able to provide them the same. It's hard to be prepared all the time for that.

Also about the girl from 9:04 Girlie, since when having and using tampons became your culture? Tampons are medical help like band Aid, not "Culture". What would actual culture is when you share tradition and connected with culture will be making flower crown with Candle and Let them go on the river for Kupala Night on the end of June or Begining of July(I have respect for you, if you know this tradition) . This one is a culture. Not having a Medical Aid like tampons.

When abortions were banned in Poland there was a case when a woman died as she couldn't give birth and the doctor just had watch her suffer. What's more upsetting, Christianity doesn't prohibit abortions if there is a medical condition for it.

it's genuinely so insane to me that people think that ending a pregnancy (by removing a fetus with NO sentience who CANNOT survive without directly relying on the mother) is murder. like they really think it's the same as ending sentient lives???

Exactly. Oh, and god did not make wheat. Humans did that. They took a grass and over time and through experiments ended up with weath. Or sheep! There are no sheep in the wild. Sheep exist because humans selectivly bred mufflon, which is a goat.

The toxic masculinity thing drives me up the wall. Toxic is an adjective. Masculinity is a noun. If I start talking about the "red car," am I saying that every car in the world is red? Of fucking course not, I'm talking about this specific car, which is defined by being red. The fact that so many conservatives will seemingly go out of their way to interpret the phrase "toxic masculinity" in a COMPLETELY different manner than you'd normally interpret an adjective-noun pair in the English language makes me think it's often a deliberate "misunderstanding" done in bad faith to dismiss people's concerns about very real issues with certain men using masculinity to be toxic assholes.
