I think that queens a keeper for sure. Young queens don’t mess around. Look into cell, no egg, I’ll fix that. Lol. Nice increase. Love the three frame nuc box. Great job and video. 👍

Looked like you had either a queen cup or swarm cell building on the center of the frame you put into your three frame. Great job that queen is doing. Keep up the good work!

yea I checked it , it was a dry queen cup thanks for watching

You made that split look so easy and have an awesome Queen. Btw, how did you use a feeder on top of the Pro Nuc? Did you bust out the ventilation screen on the lid? TY!
@KajunHomestead2 жыл бұрын
thank you so much , the key that helps me out making a split on a small hive is to move the queen and leave the workers to the new hive, and yes I cut out the inner hole vents to the feeder holes so the bees can come up and feed on bottom of the jar. I only punch 2 holes in center of jar lid to line up with center of feeder hole in pronuc. also I only cut out the larger of the two feeder holes.

Nice brood pattern there. Don’t want to lose her! They were definitely full up!

think I'm gonna graph from this queen

Holy smokes, that nuc needs to be set in a box or it'll hit the trees :D A suggestion, when making a split, its usually best to send the queen to the new box, that way she "thinks" she swarmed. This has a greater chance of reducing the swarming impulse.

I got a few pro nucs last year. I like them okay, but still prefer wood. I think just mostly my subjective preference. They are a useful tool.
@KajunHomestead2 жыл бұрын
I need to take the time and make me some wood nucs , I'm like you I rather the wood, its a lot cooler.

@@KajunHomestead I made 10 little nucs out of scrap this season. Not sure what I would have done without them.

Why not add a food frame to the 3-frame instead of a frame they have to draw out?
@KajunHomestead Жыл бұрын
I’m always trying to let the bees draw comb when there is a flow going on, trying to build up my supply of drawn comb.

Kajun...how long do you leave nucs in the pro nucs in spring/summer? I was considering using some for mating queen?
@KajunHomestead8 ай бұрын
I use them most of the summer just put them in afternoon shade.
