It'd be kaibaman in terms of Yu-Gi-Oh cards. That said if we were to take 6 Yu-Gi-Oh cards for Kaiba's team in Pokemon it'd be his 3 blue eyes, his XYZ dragon cannon, BEUD, and lastly, Obelisk. For Pokemon it'd translate to 3 reshiram, a mega Metagross (or something else that looks like a mecha), a Hydreigon, and shiny Regigigas. (For the bit of blue in it.)

Mega Garchomp is actually worse than regular Garchomp though because it loses speed, which genuinely one of the most important stats in the game unless the Pokemon is super bulky to make up for it.

The gen 4 remake deserved megas, they should have given electrivire a mega and gave magmortar the mega charizard y mega for the gen 4 remake. Honckrow, bastiodon, rampardos, kricitune, floatzel, bibarel, luxray, ambipom were also all pokemon that could have been given a mega in the gen 4 remake. But the gen 4 poke that deserved a mega more then any other was easily spiritoomb. They could have given it to Cynthia

I generally agree with HG's takes. To be fair, with some exceptions (most of them, the ones that he put in the low C tier and the F tier) I think they did a great job designing mega-evolutions. The concept behing mega-evolutions itself was pretty good but it would be cooler if they've had centered exclusively in Pokémon that needed a boost or a reapproach and leave the Lucarios, the Mewtwos and the Tyranitars alone. Some of them were unnecessary. I think they executed this idea better with the regional forms.

Megas are so unfortunate for a lot of reasons IMO. You have: 1) One or two stage 'mons that really needed another evolution (e.g. Banette, Mawile, Sableye), but got a mega instead, which now doesn't help them at all since they've completely discontinued megas. 2) Not great or middling pokemon who could have definitely used some kind of power boost (e.g. Beedrill, Pidgeot) who are now ultimately screwed over by mega evolution getting taken out. 3) Really good or really popular pokemon that had absolutely no business getting a mega in the first place (e.g. Lucario, starters, legendaries). Probably the most unaffected group by the loss of mega evolution since at least they're still good. Overall it feels like mega evolution was an idea the devs didn't completely think through before they implemented it. It would have been cool if they just kept it for underpowered Pokemon but then you'd be getting fans of really good, really popular 'mons demanding they get megas too (and of course they're going to hop on that for marketability purposes) and you've just defeated the entire purpose. Because why would you make a bad pokemon good when you could make a good pokemon AMAZING?

Mega Absol is "too edgy," but Mega Houndoom is deemed unironically cool? I'm starting to question just how scientific this ranking is! There are a bunch of ways Absol's mega works pretty well for it that aren't just "edgy." My personal take is that it's a play on the fact that Absol *warns* about disasters rather than causing them, therefore its mega is essentially depicting it as a "guardian angel."

Megas deserve to make a comeback in a meaningful way. I get that they're too strong, but they're still pokemon that we don't get to see anymore. Make ME only last three turns or until you switch, or take away their stat buffs, give 'em a huge change like they can't receive positive stat changes, whatever ya got to do! @@Heyhowsitgoin999 Honestly I'm guessing getting rid of megas has less to do with power levels and more to do with the logistical nightmare they were rapidly creating for themselves. People constantly complaining about "why did THIS Pokemon get a mega but not this other Pokemon/MY underrated fave pokemon?", always getting flack over which Pokemon did and did not get megas this go around, figuring out a way to cram all of the different stone items into the game, coming up with explanations for why this phenomenon that didn't exist before Gen 6 is in every single region, etc. Not to mention, to keep the mega train going they would have inevitably ended up giving basically every Pokemon in the dex a mega version, which kind of takes away the uniqueness of it. vs. something like Dynamax which can be used by all Pokemon (no fights over who gets the power boost), no special items to make it happen (no need to cram stones into every corner of the explorable world), and it's explicitly confined to Galar (no need to carry it over if they don't want to). I don't love them scrapping a gimmick after every single new generation, but I do think switching to a more generalized approach like Dynamax for power and regional forms for giving Pokemon new looks and typings and abilities is probably healthier for the series in the long run.

GEN 6 gym leaders should have all had one mega starting at the third gym and used them. Also, mega stones should have been available near the area you find the pokemon. Not hidden in post game crap.

Yeah... Mega evolution was a good idea in concept but the fact it's hardly in the games until post-game and they gave it to so many pokemon that were already strong just ruined it. At least with Gigantamax many of the native Pokemon got new forms and not every pokemon that got a new form is really strong already. Plus any Pokemon could benefit from Dynamax and it was present in pretty much every major battle. I think they did end up learning and that's why we got Gigantamax but still kinda sucks they've just left megas out to dry.

They had the potential to be good, but the way they were handled was absolutely stupid. The fact that the only gen 6 mega in XY was a mythical was stupid and the way that gen 1 has the most megas is 100% just fanservice for genwunners. And that's not even getting into the fact that most pokemon that got megas were already powerful pokemon that didn't even NEED them. Why not give megas to less-used pokemon to make them more useful? Mega Dunsparce, anyone? Mega Spinda? But no, we get... Lucario, Garchomp and Rayquaza.

Part of me feels that the Mega Blastoise design was meant as a nod to the whole 'blastoise's hydro pump comes out of its forehead' meme That's like 90% of the reason I like it so much My favourite megas would probably have to be... Mega Gardevoir (Shiny version is wearing a funeral dress to compliment the regular one with a wedding dress) Mega Lopunny (not exactly sure what it is about it but it's badass) Mega Lucario (mostly just nostalgia from my first playthroughs of X, that guaranteed Lucario is a MONSTER), Mega Banette (the whole unzipping thing going on is just so simple and yet so well-done) and Mega Sableye (the gem shield is just *chefs kiss*) also 'I wish they did more than just TAKE THE BABY OUT' that could be read so differently oh my gosh

Mega gyrados is so much worse than regular gyrados no intimidate, can’t have any other item and no moxie sweeping and the extra dark typing isn’t too amazing

Aggron Metargoss and Steelix are my favorites, I love Aggrons big tank-deal. I like metagross's actual flying, and I like the cool crystals on Steelix... Hu I think I might just like steel types actually now that I think about it.

mega ampharos being dragon is based on it's japanese name, denryu. 電 (den) means electric, and 竜 (ryu) means dragon. the name is literally "electric dragon" which is it's type. there's also the fact that 電流 (denryu) means electric current. it's a pretty neat name

I read somewhere that they wanted to give Flygon a Mega, but the designer had an artist's block (if that's what it's called, not a native speaker) and therefore they didn't have a design to implement
