Just a note... You must have had one of the more latency inducing styles (Modern, Aggressive, Bus) activated on Pro-L2 and maybe even 2x oversampling and True Peak limiting as well. Turn on "Transparent, Punchy or All Around" and you get ~10ms, which to me is totally fine to play with.
@TheRaveBarn Жыл бұрын
Correct, the modes you mentioned are indeed around the 10ms range, I find that amount totally usable for general production, but I prefer having the absolute lowest latency possible while tracking. I usually switch to Pro-L once all the tracking is done.

If you have trouble finding a low-latency limiter just go pick up a clipper (g-clip, free clip, etc) and use that instead. As long as you don't push into it too much it will work similarly with 0 latency

I LOVE THIS. But I did get lost on one part. I set up those Drum Midi tracks, but how do you use them? I created this entire pattern but I can't drag a sample onto the midi. Ideally I'd want to easily swap out different samples but keep the same drum pattern. Wouldn't it be much easier to just use a Drum Rack instead of 4 midi tracks? Is there an easy solution that I'm just not seeing? Thank you!
@TheRaveBarn Жыл бұрын
You should be able to draft the sample right into the midi track, in the device section. I prefer not to use all-in-one drum racks as they can limit mixing flexibility.
@cglessman Жыл бұрын
@@TheRaveBarn I'm glad you replied.. that was the solution thank you so much!
@THOMASTAYIMOEHL Жыл бұрын
@@cglessman another great tip: put a drumrack into the midi channel, put your 128 favorite drum sounds (i.e. all your claps) on the cells, then put a midi pitch device before the drumrack. now you switch through your drum sounds by changing the pitch.

i just reread your reply...initially i didn't respond, but will this time...off hand that it may have been...in my case i'm well beyond the joke, but imagine for a moment someone is watching and they're really just getting started...the responsibility on people purporting to be knowledgeable on a subject is to reveat clearly and truthfully without an 'attitude of this is beneath me'...that's why i picked up on the offhand joke....demeaning those moving into either home recording or music producing as a profession isn't the responsible way to go about educating. it may have been a ''oh i've been doing this for years'' joke to you, but imagine for a moment a person who's just bought theiri first soundcard and they're only getting started in the world of i/o...it's a minefield of confusion and the offhand joke just added further to it....@@TheRaveBarn

@couchtrax Жыл бұрын
cool vid, but I rarely find myself using templates even if its one I created. I prefer making custom audio fx racks, midi fx racks, and instrument racks instead. Each and every Track you make is going to be unique in the way you mix it, automate it, etc etc. I find making racks instead makes things more versatile. I also prefer to bus everything or use sends (same thing almost) and the bus channels/send channels are almost always unique for each track. Its good to know why you're doing something and how to do something instead of using a "hamburger helper" preset or template or whatever etc etc. Learn what the fx do and your music making process will be much faster and much less wasted time fooling around. another reason I'm not into templates is this... most producers tend to focus on only arrangement view or only session view. Personally I use both arrangement and session when I make tracks. I like having my parts layed out in session view into scenes because it makes it much easier to make remixes/edits and its awesome to have scenes if you're performing live
@cekirdekci32 Жыл бұрын
when he said set volume fader to -12 I stopped watching. use gain on channels instead keep the faders at 0 or close to zero because the more you are far away from zero it will be harder to control the levels. its not linear guys. this is just incorrect. just sayingl.
@TheRaveBarn Жыл бұрын
Incorrect? I think not. There are no rules in music, just preferences. Pro Tools for instance, gives users +12dB of fader to work with, while ableton only goes to +6. By setting the faders to -12dB, I now have +18dB to work with, is it a more coarse control at -12db? Yes, but it hasn't caused me an issues personally and I like the extra room to boost, this isn't a mixing template where +-0.5dB makes a huge difference, it's a production template for fast translation of ideas. Having to navigate to the channel effects and adjust a gain pot because the fader is out of room (for instance when working with a very quiet VST preset) is much slower than just boosting on a fader. I typically don't mix in Ableton anyway, Pro Tools is my preferred DAW for that use and my attention to gain staging is much more detailed in my mix template. I've had over 150 million streams with the faders defaulted to -12dB as set out in this video, so it don't think it's an issue.
