My Lord that cherry is beautiful. Before you said anything I was watching this and saying to myself "this guy could saw down a milk weed to furniture grade lumber and a lot of it!" Talk about getting everything out of a log that can be got! And that molder is one fantastic piece of gear Nathan. Man what a great machine.Great video Nathan. Really enjoyed that.

Thanks for taking the time, to teach us about the pith (center of the log) on hardwoods. I'm a person that is a former 5 yr's Ship Welder, (made little 400 ' Ft. canoe's, only 12 stories tall, wink, wink, yes it's true, if you can jump across it, you can weld it. LOL ) Metal Fabricator, CAD Designer, former autobody guy (25 yr's exp, Heavy Collision Work.) Never played much with dead tree carcasses, but love watching your channel.

I try to save cherry sapwood when I can find decent bands of it, then cut it off from the heartwood and process it into thinner stock. It's such a gorgeous, white wood it works well for variegated panel glue ups.

Love your channel and the knowledge you share. You're making our world a better place. But... It'd make me feel a lot better if you wore eye protection more regularly. I know it's unlikely that something bad would happen. But it only takes once. (For what it's worth, I've worked in manufacturing for nearly 30 years and have seen bad things happen that probably won't ever happen again. But it changed those peoples' lives in a very negative way.) Please keep up the amazing work and stay safe. You and your family will appreciate it.

Could you cut the pith into boards, cross orient them, glue them up and sell them to wood turners' for bowls and such? They already do that with boards to get the thickness they need, so if cross orienting the grains would stop the twist in smaller sections would that work for the lathe turners'?

As a stupid question: What is the definition of the pith? If you were to saw both sides to what you would consider the pith could you not turn the blank 90 degrees and saw off 1x2 (3 or 4?) and then flip it 180 degrees again and saw to the pith? You would get a quantity of narrow cherry but if it was waste anyway...? As an example, I have used a lot of cherry as face frames over maple plywood built in cabinets: Such stock could be ideal. (Never mind: It seems this is exactly what you did!!)
