@Impact Shooting Why don’t you see if you can replicate the three melons shots with a .50BMG(I’m not sure why it’s referred to as a BMG because BMG stands for Browning Machine Gun and these are bolt action weapons)??? If you believe that you would need larger melons, use full sized watermelons. I can understand that the sizes of the melons used in the movie the Accountant would be difficult to see at a distance of 1 mile, but why should that make a difference to the ability to hit them with a .50???? Try the mantra from the movie The Patriot with Mel Gibson, “Aim Small, Miss Small”! By the way, I don’t remember if you did a reaction to or breakdown of “Quigley Down Under”! Fun math for the Gemini Man scene: I don't know what caliber he's shooting, but lets assume it's .308. At 1240m distance, the flight time would be about 2.6 seconds. At 238km/h, that train would've moved 172 meters between him pulling the trigger and bullet impact 2.6 seconds later. So, his windage adjustment to "lead" the train would have to be 138.62 MRAD... or 476 MOA. That couple turns on the turret ain't doing it. lol
@longshot76014 жыл бұрын
The distance could be calculated for the Accountant clip too. A mile in about a half second? 10,000 fps!?! That's railgun velocities. Not to mention that the recoil would put his shoulder into his pelvis.

And the math for the right timing to hit a head in this moving train! Length of the side silhouette of a human head or neck: about 20-30 cm TrainSpeed: 238 km/h 238 km/h = 66.1 m/s 0.3 m / 66.1 m/s = 0.0045 s So he had a time interval of about 4 thousands of a second to hit, IF he was aiming perfect at the right point.

the technical role is sometimes done by high power shooter utilizing the 1903 sling. You roll to the left to get a tight sling fit as you push the stock to your shoulder pocket with you right. Hard to do that push while laying prone. Once your left arm, sling, rifle, and right shoulder become "one" then you roll back to the right and build your position to get the natural point of aim and best position for your trigger contact etc. etc.

You wouldnt dial it in. In a moment like that where you need to shoot someone in a train you dont have time to dial because lets face it you’ll miss the first and probablly following shots. But for the sake of the argument, you would use a ‘christmas’ tree reticle or any reticle that caters to holdover.
@Doc.Holiday4 жыл бұрын
Yea, Im left thinking, pure Hollywood. The deflection of the glass would keep you from closing the angle and without closing the angle it would be impossible to lead. Dial it in? I don’t think so, but I’m no sniper, just a realistic shooter. I don’t think the shot could be made even with a TrackingPoint rifle, let alone old school.
@ValhallaTactical4 жыл бұрын
@@Gruvy Fun fact: based on Trijicon's spec on the TARS, even at only 3x magnification his field-of-view at that distance would only be approximately 155 meters (or 77.5 meters from scope's center to the edge of the image circle). The train would've moved WAY more than 77.5 meters during his bullet's flight time... meaning if he were to use Kentucky windage, his target will not even be within his scope when he pulled the trigger. So no Christmas tree styles reticles will ever be large enough to cover that kind of lead...

Sometimes, you have to really rack that bolt back AND assist its movement forward to ensure that it chambers the next round. If you just rack it back and let the bolt go like a regular Semi-Auto, it won't quite catch, so what you get is an empty chamber and a hard pull. Blood or no blood, the rifle will chamber the next round, unless those top rounds collected pounds of dust and dirt while laying on the ground.

Can't speak on that specific .50 BMG magazine but I've seen sand combined with moisture cause malfunctions in M4 magazines pretty regularly so I'd say that's at least plausible that sand + blood makes it bind up.

And for the Saving Private Ryan scene, when I saw it when I was younger I assumed it was maybe dust and dirt coming off the uniforms after the shots, but growing up and being in, I've realized that dust and dirt coming off of clothes looks way different than that lol. But I loved the rest of the video, great breakdown and I completely agree with all of it. Subscribed!

Hi Pieter, First let me congradulate you for you channel and your videos. Nice, accurate contents. Easy to understand, no stupid background music, voive volume and intonation are impeccables too. All in all, GREAT work. I wonder if you already did a review about the 3 sniper movies of the same name (starring Tom Berrenger). IMO these are the best (or at least up there with the best) sniper movies because you see much more than just a guy shooting. You see the infil procedure, the setup, the camouflage, the movement and positionning, the exfil and all. Even some of the political stuff that comes with black ops. I didn't see those in your videos page so I assume you didn't review them. I'd love to hear what you think about them.

With will smith and judging wind over that kind of distance, using a kestrel will only give a part of the sum. It cannot effectively judge wind direction or speed at distance and other factors and methods would also have to be employed such as mirage or smoke, tree movements and many other traditional methods of judging wind. Shooting at such distances can mean that there is a complete 180 degree shift in wind direction further down the range. All of this comes with a lot of practice and skill

Dust or "smoke" is created when you shoot through a wool uniform.

even if there was some degree of smoke or dust resulting from the shot there is no way shooting through a woolen uniform creates a giant puff of smoke like that.

@@louiscypher4186 - I've seen a bit of combat...a body 'smokes' from dislodged DUST from .30-caliber (or larger) projectiles impacting it. Shoot someone in the middle east, in combat, and it looks like you're dusting a throw rug...if you wish to proof this, take a rug from your house, pour a bottle of talcum powder on it, hang it on the clothes line and at-range, shoot it. Then, you can apologize for assuming things you have no experience with. WWII Europe was COVERED with gypsum, crushed stone, dust, dirt, etc. - so for a soldier to be 'covered in dust when shot' had a high likelihood of happening.

I was really looking forward to Jack Reacher! That opening scene was so enthralling with the reloading stages interspersed with the shooter getting into position. Edit: Also, another thing which is a little bit of a spoiler: The guy purposefully missing and putting a bullet into the slushy machine to leave the cops evidence is also a nice touch that you didn't cover, and I would like to hear your perspective on if an OTM bullet would have been irrecoverable from a body at that range and if it would have held up in a liquid backstop any better. I only ever really shoot FMJ and soft points, but I know guys that hunt and use OTM bullets for the extra weight. Usually they complain about the bullets coming apart on impact with heavy bodied game, so I'm curious what your perspective is.

Regarding the sniper in Saving Private Ryan and from a lefty who shoots right handed bolt actions it's... I wouldn't say easier but simpler to just use the left hand like he does in the scene. With practice it's just as fast plus the you aren't holding up the whole rifle from the wrong end of a lever. If you don't use the left to cycle you still have to move your thumb out of the way of the bolts action anyway

@@julian23561 Got this from the Das_Edelweiss comment (sorry for copy pasting pal) I think there’s justification for “smoke” coming out of bodies when being shot at. One is that those German soldiers have probably been fighting for days and the dried mud and the ashes from the ruins from buildings built up in them and so when they were shot the bully’s literally shakes off the dirt and ashes from their bodies. Now I’ve seen go pro combat videos in Syria where they’re heavily fighting a city and when someone is shot dust kicks off from their bodies or dust kicks around them. I think this is due to them fighting and living inside areas that have lots of dust and ashes falling on their clothes. The reason why I like Saving Private Ryan is because the way how the soldiers are being shot and killed it looks extremely real and they’re not doing any exaggerated backflips or anything like you’ll usually see in video games, tv shows, films, etc.
