1:08 Push forward and flick back was a really good tip👍 I had a hunch that was the correct way to do any nollie/fakie trick but for someone to put it out there actually solidified it in my trick memory

I’ve see a lot of “trick tips” and never heard that one. It makes so much since though. Bringing the board to your flicking foot. What makes your videos so much better, is your learning as you go. Most skaters learn a trick, and then try to give the tips. Then the tip becomes “pop and flick” Only recently, have people started talking about the role the pop foot has. Everyone focuses on the flick foot. Now I’m going to go try nose manual flip out. Pushing the board to my back ft, and not trying so hard to flip it.

Work on your nollies and switch ollies first. Make sure you got them on lock and popped well. Cant expect to get nollie flips consistent if your foundation is weak.

Been slightly bummed to skate the last few months after a wrist injury. This lil series with Maurio has me hyped to get back outside today! Stay grinding, Joe! I'm gonna go learn nollie flips this week, been chasing that trick for too long lol

So I havent landed a nollie flip yet but my attempts do look similar to a lot if you first attempts in this video. This was very encouraging and the tips i think will help me get them soon. Thank you sir.

Same, I always thought to myself ' damn I just can't jump off my nollie flips ' but watching this it just gives me hope cause my case is exactly the same as Joe's is. Actually got me hyped to put in some more effort and finally get them down, one of my dream tricks for sure

How did you get Maurio, just come right out and ask him via message/comment on KZbin? I was super-psyched when he went pro a couple years back and the Santa Cruz guys surprised him with his deck. Not to mention such a work horse when it comes to powering through and getting the trick.-similar to someone else comment about him explaining his approach, I have seen that work ethic in some of the Santa Cruz posts (product challenge, etc), and more recently when he was skating with Asta on Tom’s channel.

One thing to do too. Practice just doing switch flips. Learn where to put your weight. For me that made it easier and now I feel like I can pop my nollie and switchflips as high as my regular kickflips. Also try and put more of your foot on the flicking foot too. That really helped me get good nollie and switch flips. But remember everyone is different and has different ways of thinking and doing things.

Something to just point out, besides the shoulders as he mentions, but because you are nervous, you aren’t popping hard enough, so your front foot is staying in the way. If you give it more confidence for sure you can land it. I’m also just at 10 mins so maybe you figure it out at the end.

@matthewdykes8328

Agreed. If press down with the front foot until you are “jumping off the ground,” you would get that pop and more leverage for getting the trick off the ground. Still, nice work in front of one of the best currently laying it down for a big team!

maurio has a strong and quick flick. plus he has longer legs and can jump higher. i have the same exact problem as you. its the timing and the flick. Being pudgy like Mario from nintendo makes it a little harder to have hang time in the air.

From my point of view i think you are getting too tense by the time you pop and you hold your breath ,try relaxing and breathing normaly maybe will help , Cheers good job on getting one!

@@sk8mafia214 True I noticed that too,took me way too long to notice in my skateboarding too.The thing is we have to understand that Force is different than Power,we dont have to force our body and by doing that we produce less power,remember relax ,breathe and apply power at the correct moments without tensing up

You make this cute little hnnng sound nearly every time you do a trick. Makes me think one aspect of skating that maybe deserves a few videos and some professional perspectives is how the breathe while doing tricks. I know with working out the exhale is often timed with the eccentric part of the rep. Wonder if thinking about this would add more pop and explosiveness to a trick?

@@woodandwheels It’s just a mindset for better Nollies. Every switch trick works the same as regular. If you understand how a good fakie ollie works, you should be able to carry that over to your nollies/nollie tricks.
