I think its disgusting that somebody used my blindfolded M64 run and past it off as a tas to re-record themselves reacting to it. He also conveniently put his cam right over mine so you can't see me eating coke and drinking pizza at the same time. These "speedrunners" aka cheaters are getting out of hand. The "death star glitch" (1:05:29) or DSG for short was actually found by one of my oldest friend. Storytime: About maybe 10 - 12 years ago in a small town in Sweden with a population of barely 2000 people me and my friend were theorizing if it was possible to duplicate the star count (as you can do with skultulas in OOT by leaving a room the same time as you get the skultula via the boomerang) and one of the theories we came up with was if it was possible to grab a star while dying.. it didnt work .. if you die before you grab it you will just fall through and just die. So a second theory was in the works and this time de thought "what happens if you grab a star and then fall out of the stage?" So we collected 99 coins and then killed som enemy and waited for the coin to slide to far edge where you take it and have the star spawn on the edge where you could grab it and then fall down. YES it worked ... however... Mario landed on the bottom seem (where you usually die and the game fades out) Mario did his little victory animation dance and the game asked if we wanted to save or whatever.. yes.. and then he died and the game faded out... Failure.. again.. I went home and didnt think more of it but my friend continued his research and eventually "what happens if you grab the star WHILE the screen is starting to fade out?" He got work and DMed me later that evening and said that be found something but it doesn't duplicate the star.. he showed me the clip of his recording and we saw the potential since dying is faster than the regular way. However we deemed it "fun but useless" since the setup itself was too complicated and time wasting and it was also a 100 coin star so you probably want to grab another star in the same run which you ofcourse couldn't do. But i Think it was either amaru or eru or some other japanese taser that made it viable several years later in a run and i was very suprised when i saw that the "glitch" made it in the 120 star tas (which was also the first time i saw å viable strat for it). Since this was a blind watch from your side i was really excited to see your reaction and you surely didn't disapoint me :D you almost fell out of the chair. Eitherway my friends channel name is m3g4t0nerr (aka unterbawr) and he has found alot of unique glitches in alot of different games. He also got credited by pannenkoek (i think) for the DSG on some sm64 wiki page. Even though this is such a small thing im still wierdly proud that he made this tiny tiny mark on the sm64 tas community. If you ever ask out loud "how the hell do people find these things?" this was short insight of our thought process, it didn't get the result that we initially expected but it created a cool unique glitch that eventually got useful in a tas and i honestly think that the community hasn't found all the use cases for it yet :) but i guess time Will tell. Hope someone find this comment atleast midly interesting and cheese! Your great! I love watching you breaking new records and boundaries for this game! Cheers!

But I am a fan of both the DS and N64 versions (definitely on my best games list lol) I'm not a talented speedrunner but I love developping and hearing about new strats so I am just a big lurker :)

My goal is to be able to speedrun the game on an intermediate level in the next few years. I don't know where to look to find individual star videos for intermediate though so it's a little hard to get into.

Never understood why Cheese likes SM64 over any other SM game. Clearly, Mr. Mario was considered extremely homophobic toward Miss Bowser (formerly Mr. Bowser, prior to his transition M to F) during this time period as you may have already known, considering his blatantly insensitive homophobic slur you can hear Mr. Mario say, numerous times throughout the gameplay of SM64; and I quote, “So long, _gay_ Bowser!” As a gay man, you would think Cheese would find this extremely insensitive to the LGBTQ community. We reached out to Mr. Mario’s publicist about this issue to find out if he has since learned from his insensitivities or homophobic slurs, but unfortunately we have yet to receive a comment from his publicity advisement team. As you all may know, “Cancel Culture” is a very real thing in today’s society and we ask that you refrain from any “headhunting” or “harassment” that can be damaging to Mr. Mario’s character, in a figurative sense, as well as in the literal sense of the word. This is simply due to the fact that we are still waiting for an explanation as to whether or not this was a misunderstanding or if he still conducts himself and/or uses this type of blatantly offensive speech and/or behavior, without knowledge of the insensitivity it bears, especially towards the LGBTQ community. If you hear multiple pause sfx, this means the TAS is pause buffering. The basics of pause buffering are explained here. More details can be found in Bismuth's SM64 TAS explanation video. The TAS Bismuth uses is the 1 Key TAS in 4:20.77. SM64 runs at 30FPS, and button presses take two frames (one frame to press, one frame to release). Because of this, Mario can jump up to 15 times per second. By pause buffering, the game treats Mario as jumping 30 times per second without pressing A that fast.
