Yeah here’s how I like to do it… 1. Attach hose to dryer. 2. Push hose onto vent outlet on wall. 3. Lacerate hand on vent outlet. 4. Go to ER for sutures. 5. Come home trim bloodstained aluminum from end of hose. 6. Attach hose to vent outlet. 7. Try to repair tear in hose with metal tape. 8. Tape the hose in place. 9. Move dryer back in place. 10. Observe that hose disconnected from dryer and is now crushed. 11. Put tools back. Drink. Give up.

It works. Went to Lowes and the guy gave me all the parts I needed. So, I thought. Told me it was simple and how to do it. Well, I could not get the hose to go over the dryer. Measured the dryer hole and it was smaller than 4". Tried everything including getting a butter knife. Saw this video and promptly went to Home Depot. Purchased the tape. It went on the first try. Tape. Who would have thought it? Thank you so much for the clear instructions.

You have just made my life easier with this video! I spent a lot of time trying elbow attachments and adapters because I too have an oval duct. Nothing worked! I found your video when looking into tape and this made all the difference! Took me 10 minutes. I have a semi-rigid tube so I had to use an extra layer of tape to help stick it to the duct, but it works! Also, I never thought about changing drill bits that way😑 So thanks for that as well!

If it's still not working, you can get a "worm gear clamp" at a hardware store. That may be easier because it won't fight you when trying to slip it on the dryer. Those tension rings can be annoying in some cases.

Very helpful video, which I watched after I replaced my aluminum dryer vent hose. Ace Hardware only had 8' or 20'. Ten feet would be perfect, so I figured I'd get the 20' and not fully extend it. The guy told me that's OK to do. I just found out that's a fire hazard! How do I cut off the 10 extra feet? I have a jewelry wire cutter. Will that work on the hose wire without ruining my wire cutter? And how exactly do I cut off the wire and aluminum?
@Pro-XOKC
@Pro-XOKC 12 күн бұрын
@@e.castlerock8454 it’s a little hard to explain, but yes use the jewelry wire cutters to snip the duct wire in one place. Carefully slide your finger into the gap and tear the foil part all the way around. If you tore it the right way; you’re done. If you tore the opposite way, it’ll require one more snip of the duct wire. No big deal either way.

@Pro-XOKC - Thanks for responding and on a holiday eve, to boot. I'll give it a try! Update: For anyone reading this in the future, don't use a jewelry wire cutter. I borrowed a heavier cutter, which also didn't work. That wire is thin, but really tough! A new cutter finally worked, but I had to keep making an indentation and then bend the wire back and forth until it snapped. Maybe that's how a cutter works; I thought you just snip it with one press.

Any 5/16 hand nutdriver or 1/4 inch for some bands works better than getting out your cordless drill. On many through wall vent box you will have to crimp the pipe to male so the dryer flex exhaust can snugly fit, then banding it gets it mostly tight not 100 %.

I am cleaning my vent and I want to pop the side, can’t seem to get the front to open. Plus the bigger problem , How to get out of the back of dryer. If I angle enough to slip through, tube slips off. Seems to be a good size, if I wanted to live behind the dryer. I’m thinking to get my step stools and go over top! I’m only 78 yrs young. What you think? Any advice? 😀

If it wasn't getting hot when drying I meant?
@Pro-XOKC
@Pro-XOKC 3 ай бұрын
If it's an electric dryer, probably not. If your electric dryer isn't heating, either a thermal fuse has blown from overheating OR the heating element split. Both will require a dryer repair to restore the heat, and the entire dryer duct likely needs to be cleaned (not just the connecting duct). If it's a gas dryer, the heat may be restored after cleaning the duct.

Would using tape on semi Ridgid pipe work for making connections better? Thanks, nice video. Nm
@Pro-XOKC
@Pro-XOKC 2 ай бұрын
Yes, I use the tape whether it's the flexible, semi-rigid, or rigid. If you're using a worm gear clamp, it'll help prevent tearing a hole into the ends of the duct. For semi-rigid or rigid, if you're having problems getting onto the wall side, put the tape on the end first, then make four snips into the duct opening. If the perspective if you looking at the opening like it's a circle, imagine a clock and put a 1" snip into the 2, 4, 8, and 10 o'clock posiitons. It'll fan out that opening and may help slip on easier. Then tighten hard with a worm gear clamp to hold.

@@gabyluces1413 No it can stay where it’s at so long as you don’t pinch the connecting duct behind the washer/dryer. That few feet of travel down then back up into the wall isn’t a big deal.

A good 50 years ago owners were warned NOT to use that flexible junk because lint accumulates in it like crazy!!!!!!
@Pro-XOKC
@Pro-XOKC 9 ай бұрын
I’ve cleaned over 5,000 dryer vents and can tell you that there is little difference in accumulation between the rigid, semirigid, and flexible connecting ducts. Plus these newer flexible ducts have a Teflon-like lining that helps prevent build up. Additionally, the flexible ones offer three key benefits that the others don’t: they can bounce back if accidentally pinched, they can compress better in tight spaces, and they seal better to the dryer and wall ports.

Thought it always had to be female into male in the direction of flow? Didn’t you just create a lint collection seam? Let me know.
@Pro-XOKC
@Pro-XOKC 5 ай бұрын
The seam is nearly negligible in this particular case. You may get a little bit of build up there, but the benefit of having a super tight hold by securing it with a clamp from the outside outweigh any possible slight buildup. The alternative is shoving the flexible duct into the wall port, and that would be significantly worst for lint collection. If you have a better idea, let me know of course.

Previous dryer install, the clowns couldn't get the hose on at the wall,so they bent the duct inwards to make it fit..then taped it up..now after cleaning out the duct, I'm replacing it with a new diameter hose and it's a bear to get it on... The hard part is getting the hose on the wall vent..it's bigger than the 4" diameter of the hose ! I'm trying again by snipping the hose a few places and getting it in,then taping it with foil...the ring would be extra work. Getting it on the dryer is simple 😊 **** why would they install the wall vent pointing downward!! Why not install it pointing outward towards the dryer for easier install.**** Btw...just ordered a new washer and dryer, due September 9,2024....how much you wanna bet they do the same thing as the previous ones from 7 yrs ago!! 😂😂😂😂😂 unprofessional

What happens if there’s a hole in it
@Pro-XOKC
@Pro-XOKC 6 ай бұрын
If the hole is on the end, use a diagonal cutter to snip the end off down a bit to a fresh section. If it’s in the center, it’s best to just buy a new duct. If you don’t want to do that, the metal tape in the video can be used to wrap the area with the hole. Pull it taut, wrap the tape, then slowly collapse it again so the tape takes the shape of the duct.
