It's actually strategically the best habit to pick up. It makes it to where you aren't ignoring your hand so that your opponent isn't picking up that you have no answers in your hand or that you do have options when you really don't. It's a bluffing game especially in limited format.

it's to hide information from the opponent, like hide which card you just drew, or which cards you've kept from your opening hand

It's a habit; once you start doing it, it's hard to stop again. It may also work to confuse the opponent.
