Never ceases to amaze me the corners some people will cut to get through a job. You're in there... do it once... do it right. The 4-link mounting was already on its way to a nasty failure.. thank goodness you caught it before you started putting a lot of power to the ground. 🤜

Great job as always. I think what I like best about all your cars is the subtle details and the decided lack of "look at me, look at me" attention getting bling. Simply beautiful vehicle.

FYI, your rockers are your frame channels. But it doesn't hurt to have subframe connectors. I also hope you lubricated the crap out of those urethane bushings with silicone grease. If not they will creak like crazy

Great job! You are absolutely right about doing the suspension upgrades. In 1970 I owned a 69 Nova SS with a 396 at about 475 HP with a 411 gear and after about a year on the street with only a few races I began to notice wrinkles forming near the C pillar and one point a side rear window fell down into the body.

Currently building a bagged big block F100 so once that’s done I’ll keep an eye out for a 69. Keep up with the awesome work so I can live vicariously through you 😂

Chris, take the Heat wrap off the stainless headers. It reacts and pits the metal. Can trap moisture especially down by collectors. Cam generally achieve the same heat protection by sending them to Jet-Hot. Downside is they won't look stainless anymore. Love the build

Nice build. Also, rivnuts aren't exactly waterproof. That said, I usually paint the freshly drilled holes and seal around rivnut flanges with seam sealer before I install them.
@zaknefain100
@zaknefain100 Жыл бұрын
Yep, a little body seam sealer to install the rivnut wet. Then some sealant on the threads is typically good enough to thwart ingress. Typical procedure for rivnut assembly in aircraft panels as well.
@lukewalker1051
@lukewalker1051 Жыл бұрын
You built it bro. Masterpiece. Well done. 👍 PS. Absurd how irresponsible the previous builder was. to not install with Riv nuts. Word up to Riv nut installers. Be mindful that too much lever force by the high leverage beefy insertion tool to get maximum expansion of the Riv nut body aka interference fit to the frame, can spoil the thread by excessive axial force. Basically the thread is what pulls on the Riv nut against its top flange to compress/mushroom it to the frame. Too much force....Chris is a strong boy...can damage the thread and then you are stuck with a Riv nut bonded to the frame with a spoiled thread. So don't use too much force to secure the Riv nut. Other thing I do is use 2 part epoxy between Riv nut and frame during the installation process for increased bonding strength at reduced level pressure to preserve best thread which also negates corrosion between Riv nut and frame.

FYI, do not use an impact to tighten or loosen bolts in a rivnut. The hammering from the impact will cause it to spin in the sheet metal and then you are screwed! Ask me how I know.

Nice 69 Camaro. I also have a 1969 Camaro that I started my build back in 2014. With new tech. that came out in the last ten years I would do it different. #1 I would remove body off of old sub frame and remove differential. Drop body down on a Roaster Shop chassis. Roaster Shop chassis are great, come with complete suspension and brake kit, differential. All this you can custom order to your own specs. #2 Drop in a LS6/525 hp crate engine.

I cut small access holes on frame sides (where you can) and use nut and bolt. Much stronger then rivnut. And add big washers. Like any new hitch is attached to new SUV’s with thin unibody rails.

I am currently installing a Ridetech full coilover suspension system in a 1969 Z28. I happened to run across your video and was curious what suspension upgrades you were talking about in the video description. Dude I am really glad you found those bolts pulling out of the rear support cage. That could have been catastrophic if you didnt find that. I used the nutserts plus driller 8 extra 3/4 holes and put rosette welds in those. I wanted to do a install video but im not an editing master lol. Ive tried it in the past but I sound like a Russian news reporter in voice over. Great video and beautiful build.

Hey, Chris, I’m so impressed with your abilities, I have to ask…are you a full time mechanic? Forgive me if this question has already been answered. But at the very least, your videos are so enjoyable to watch, I’m surprised you don’t have 10 million subscribers. Hope this question is not too intrusive, but I can’t see how you’re not professionally trained. Thank you for your great content.

Those notched bolts were included in these kits before the rivnuts where. They were in fact self tapping. I actually opted to use them instead of rivnuts as I ended up welding mine in and these pull frame in far enough to make it 0 gap. I wouldn't trust those or rivnuts for driving with any decent power being made.
