Mirrors are the same for me on any bike, if you want to change them that's up to you. It is not called a rpm gauge, it is called a tachometer. The pipes have to be that way out of the factory to comply with all the laws we have concerning the noise a motorcycle is allowed to produce. The rear suspension is not the greatest, but it is an easy fix. The rear shocks are very easy to change with just four bolts and you can buy a pair of progressive shocks vey reasonable for a Sportster. I would buy a longer pair in order to increase the amount of shock travel. I've owned two Heritages Softials and they also hit hard in the rear. I currently own a TriGlide and had to change the rear shocks to make it bearable. Both, the Softails and the TriGlide are a real pain to change rear shocks. We travel 15,000 miles a year and rarely go over 65 mph. You say you hate to take your bike on the freeway because it is too slow. I've got news for you, 80 mph is not slow. Some days we travel 400 to 500 miles. The trick is to take breaks. We stop every hour or hour an a half to get the vibes out. Maybe to fuel up, maybe to get a drink (water so we don't dehydrate) or just to go for a little walk. We've ridden small and large bikes and it doesn't matter which you ride, you have to take breaks. It doesn't make sense to me for someone to complain about the air hitting them when they ride a naked bike. If the wind is a problem, buy a windscreen. This is the same with any size bike. If you are lucky enough to live a long life, maybe when you are older you will appreciate a slower pace where you can really enjoy the ride. The main reason people get rid of their Sportsters are because of what other people say. Don't let somebody else tell you what to ride, enjoy your Sportster Iron 883. I'm old and I'd still love to own one.

I have a 2013 883N. I have the same problem with the mirrors and wind. I bought a flyscreen and it helps, not as much as a bigger screen would. And you can remove the baffles. Yes, Harley's are meant to cruise, but you can take corners aggressively if you are inclined to do so. As for me, 80 mph is fast enough. ride safe homie.

@robertp4577 жыл бұрын
Walter White what are you talking about? Why spend a couple of hundred for something that isn't really necessary. It's a Harley cruiser there isn't much power at or even near the redline so there is no reason to rev the engine to it.

Derek Jonez you need to stop. Look at my vids. I have/had an 883 that i converted to a 1200, then stage 4. The 883 has get up and go.. i rode mine, as an 883, from Maryland to Florida and back. That trip made me upgrade lol. Not a sport bike but, you gotta twist the throttle. Someone saying you dont need a tach is full of shit. What they should say is, "I don't need a tach" instead of trying to tell other people what they do and don't need. Tge tach was the first thing i added to my sporty. People are idiots. The 883r, 1200r, 1200s, xr1200/x, and now the 2016 roadster all have tachometers, the iron is just a cheaper sportster with things removed by designers to make it look cool the posers... who buy them and make stupid vids like this. But hey, you know everything. .. and to you $200 is a lot of money. Lol
@willellis74147 жыл бұрын
Buddy... a tach is a concern? Listen and feel what your bike is doing. You'll figure out when to shift. Pipes and seat= Harley tax. Happy to hear your review, but these are things that most riders can tell you. Oh, and get some mitts.
@neillawrence41986 жыл бұрын
2006 sportster 883 roadster, metallic orange paint, all blacked out except exhaust. Did the stage one (screaming eagle exhaust, free flow air filter, rejetted carb). These mods really wake this motor up, it is still pulling good when the revs hit the limiter. Rev limit in 4th is about 105 mph, never held it wide open in 5th. Guessing maybe it would pull 112-115 if given a long stretch. A mustang vintage seat will let me ride for hours without getting that sore butt burn. The suspension does suck, it's like riding in a iron wheeled wagon. If the roads are reasonably smooth it is a real fun bike to ride. With forward pegs and the upright seating the wind is tiring for high speed cruising, but you can ride all day at 55-60mph. I will make an occasional run on the interstate at 90+mph for a few miles, then exit onto some nice Vermont country roads. After 45,000+ trouble free miles I still really enjoy this machine.

@garythomas21197 жыл бұрын
Stock redline is 6k. You can increase it using a tuner to 6500. Low end torque beats high end horsepower for regular use across the board. The reason that smaller displacement and sport bikes need higher rpm ranges is that they are horsepower oriented. Crossover where torque is decreasing and horsepower overtakes it is 5200 rpm - thus Harleys are almost exclusively torque monsters..

I have an '01 sportster 883. Plain naked bike, carbureted. it weighs much less than yours because it is the old frame with solid mount engine, bike weighs around 485. The '01 is much taller and narrower than yours so lean angle is excellent, hard to lean far enough to scrape the pegs. Power is good, bike tops out at 110mph. I drilled the baffles on the stock pipes, which gives it a better sound. I now have 80,000 miles on it and never had any issues with it. You have a good base bike there just do stage 1 upgrade and suspension upgrade

It's a given if you buy a Harley you have to change out the exhaust, intake and retune the computer. Then change the shocks. The reason you have to change out the exhausted and intake is because of the EPA. On behalf of the environmentalist wackos.

If you want something a bit faster in this price range, look at the Street 750. Faster 0-60, tops out at about 180kph. No one complains about the handling of that bike. No one complains about the rear suspension. It's lighter 455lbs vs 540lbs. It uses a modified water-cooled Revolution engine, kin to the Harley-Davidson V-ROD and Night Rod Special. Like the V-Rod and Night Rod, Harley Purist kinda turn their nose up at the Street series. They are seen as not being true Harleys, ironically precisely because of the little things you're complaining about. Watch reviews of the Street 750 and reviews of the V-rod/Night Rod and you hear words like fast, smooth, powerful acceleration and so on. When people talk about the Iron 883, they talk about that true Harley experience. Keep in mind that the Iron 883 has loads of modification and customization available too. vimeo.com/142506520 - Good Comparison of the Iron and the Street.

On any HD 1200 with stock A/C and pipes the redline is around 6500 rpms. The 1200 engine is happy and most efficient between 3500 and 4500 any day. I assume that the 883 would be a little below those figures. Say at around 3500 and 4000 with a redline at 5000 or 5500 being extremely conservative. Sure the beast would sound loud and about to explode but the engine is designed to work on that zone. Go ahead and wank that throttle!

All Sportsters are not created eqaul. Unfortunately, Harley has squashed all its bikes down to make them easier for women to ride. I bought a 2009 883 Custom it has a higher ground clearance than these new ones. Mine cruises fine at 80mph on the freeway but here again I have a 21" front tire as opposed to your 19". I have a 4.5 gallon tank and the Harley detachable windshield. It's an awesome little machine. I would have preferred a 1200cc but I got this one I bought for $2,800 it was in like new condition, not a scratch on it with 5k miles. Anyway, what I am trying to tell you is to avoid the newer models. Get you an older model before they got lowered so much. They are lowering all their motorcycles now... on the sportster its to allow short riders and more importantly they have trashed them for highway travel forcing you on to a more expensive bike. Now granted I would not want to tour on this bike but for day trips or weekenders its a good machine. Course I also have different rear shocks than you do... they also have more travel. You can fix that pretty easily if you want to, They do still sell the old full-size Sportster but they are pretty hard to find at dealers.
@robertp4577 жыл бұрын
Your views of Mustangs are old. The size of the pipes do not suppress noise the silencer does. The suspension is super garbage on most Harley's. The gage on that bike is also garbage. As far as the wind you are going to get that on any motorcycle without a fairing or windshield. The engine has been changed a little since it was first put in that bike, but that was back in 1984. Of course it looks good that's what you paid for. You certainly didn't pay for comfort, agility or capability. And again your views of Mustangs are well behind. The lastest generation of mustangs are pretty capable. Unfortunately changing everything on a Sportster costs so much. If you like to take curves you bought the wrong bike. You'll need to upgrade the suspension and change the exhaust to get more clearance. Or you could have saved a couple of Grand by buying a different motorcycle.

mustangs have no top end power? you must not know a whole bunch about the coyote. also saying that a mustang cant rev high, ypu must be high. the coyote is known to rev over 7200 rpm. where as a POS LS motor struggles over 6500. also the coyote doesnt have low end torque 390 max from factory. love when people dont know what they are talking about!

N there's no end to doing it your way though, you can change it, N rearrange it, for D rest of your life ! Therefore IT"S A HARLEYYYYYYY DAVIDSON !!! > N no - I don't sell them

The suspension is NOT the reason for the Iron name! 8 have a 2015 Iron also. All Sportsters have the same 12" shocks so all Sportsters have poor suspension. My opinion varies from yours.

This vlog cracks me up!!!! It's horrible on the freeway, tops out at 80mph, love to carve the canyons but this roadster sucks in corners!!! Lmao I bought it just to look cool! Harley gangsters are so cool! #bikelife

don't kid yourself, these are total hooligan bikes and you can thrash them all day long. Brilliant fun if you are an experienced rider.

Harley offers an upgrade to buy bigger heads, so you achieve a 1200, the bike is low powered a bone shaker & comes with quiet exhaust, not a freeway bike? its a bar hopper.

You should of bought a SV650 very high reeving Vtwin blast to ride,great on corners and thousands less and with mini screen decent wind protection.Instead you bought an image that does not match with performance...typical

All I have to say about the cons is...its a fucking sportster. You know what you are getting when you buy a sportster. My Iron rides like...you guessed it...a sportster. If the wind, pipes and shit like that are a problem...buy a street glide.

80mph top speed?? kzbin.info/www/bejne/nGjZmHlolpVmmq8 Dre I don't know what's wrong w/ YOUR 883 but that bike will easily 110mph. Put on an Arlon Ness BIG SUCKER & a pr of Progressive 412 rear shocks (front too if you can) then replace the restrictive, heavy as hell mufflers w/ a pr of Radiant Cycles shorties and you'll see what it'll do. Buddy you have no clue just how incredible of a motorcycle your riding truly is. Its the epitome of a street legal flat track racer. Not all 'race bikes' go 155mph. Its designed to have loads of low rpm torque NOT high speed horsepower. The Sporster is so infinitely cool it truly defies description.
