He makes 2 big points in this video: 1.) If the town doesn't know about it, they don't have the opportunity to choose whether to go to it or not. Promoting the event at the very least presents the choice to attend. 2.) People want to be a part of a big crowd, not a small one. Unlike some indie basement punk rock show, a wrestling event is more fun when there's more cheers and crowd reaction - this gives wrestlers and fans more to feed off of. Thanks for the knowledge!

I think the term "Sports Entertainment" killed it for a lot of Pro Wrestling fans. Football, Baseball, Basketball, Soccer, Hockey and all that other stuff is "Sports and Entertainment" technically. They need to call it Pro Wrestling again. Thank Vince and WWF/E for fucking that up.

There's only one Pro Wrestling promotion in the world who actually calls Pro Wrestling "sports entertainment"...

This has always been a motto of mine, Presentation is everything; If you want to be treated like a professional, then look and act like a professional. Thank you so much for this video, as I believe many promoters fail to accomplish proper promoting and presentation.

I have been watching a lot of these videos and I agree with every single one. It is this one and another one about promoters trying to live a dream and being one of the "boys". I used to as well. But there comes a point for promoters to give up that dream and be promoters. Get serious about being on the business end of pro wrestling or don't get involved in it. It's because promoters aren't serious about that the indie scene more often than not is laughed at.

When I was 14, we had a sold out indy event in town at the Civic Center (3000 fans). They advertised everywhere. AOL, Yahoo, corner stores, gyms, talking up the event in bars and clubs. Flyers at bus stops and on the way to school. The only names on the card anyone knew were the Nasty Boys. It does work. Most wrestling shows in town did a couple hundred people, max.

What is your opinion of ring announcing at the matches over the p.a system during the live event. The AZW shows in Hawaii did the announcing on a tv show they put together after it took place. I went to a few shows in Illinois (Dreamwave and some others) that they did the announcing over the p.a during the matches.
@S.M.Jean-Mahmoud_Ier

both systems are good, since you want the people who paid their ticket (either because they love the product or because they carried people who loved the product there) to be interested and get involved in the show. That's the idea behind color commentators : try to grasp the interest of those who wrestling isn't he main interest, so that they keep on watching. You don't necessarily need one if your crowd is composed of smart fans (or smarks), but it's necessary in the opposite case. And on TV, it's mandatory.

Hey Justin, I must admit it : this video is powerful. I mean it : *POWERFUL*. This simple idea of the "barter system" is so simple, yet so great and inventive I couldn't even think about it. It actyally is so powerful that it sparked me a couple ideas, litterally one after the other, on how to increase promotion and advertisement of a show. I would like to submit these ideas to you via PM for a quick review, if you don't mind it. Thanks for that. J-M

I never was in the business. However, I wanted to live the dream. Only problem is I'm not serious about getting into shape. If I was in the business now, I'd be a jobber to help talent get over. Or I'd help the promoter behind the scenes including giving input. Being realistic can go a long ways. For instance, that a promoter should not be in the ring putting himself over because he or wants to achieve the goal of being a "top guy" just to please himself or herself.

Wrestling was a better business when you had a few major promotions competing (WWE, ECW, WCW). Now it is mainly WWE or Indy promotions. There are some bigger indy promoters, like Ring of Honor, but they don't get much exposure. And TNA would be a good option but they seem to have a low budget product now....not really worthy of TV
