Here is an actual Proaim Jib owner tell you the facts. The Proaim scissor jib is not ready for prime time in our opinion.
The newest version has a speed and damping control which is so whacked out that it will most likely hurt someone on set. Hopefully is not your $20,000 camera rig.
It is undependable, heavy and so flexible that there is really no good use for it other than being portable and giving you a high level to shoot from.
Besides the shabby construction, it just lacks any finesse. It operates like a bull in a china shop and that is not good. Although it is really cool.
There may be great uses for it, we just have not found any in the nearly 2 years that we have owned 2 of them other than doing this review.
If you want honest reviews and lots of DIY video projects, then do not hesitate to subscribe. We have a lot more coming in 2024 which will be our first year of operation as a video studio.

Hello, Once again, please accept our sincerest apologies for any inconvenience caused. We understand the limitations of using a fixed head like the Proaim Gold Head with the Scissor Crane, and we have mentioned in the heading of our website page that we recommend it for 3 Axis Ronin and Movi Gimbals. As for the dampening problem you are experiencing, you do have to play around with the dampening and speed to figure out a smooth operation. However, if you feel your Upgraded Control Kit is defective, we are happy to send you a replacement free of cost. Kindly let us know. Team Proaim

Again, love ProAim products and plan to buy many more. However, the scissor jib was a miss, at least for me. And the PRO damping unit was disappointing. I know you guys stand behind your products and if I had complained to you, you would have made it right. Which is a big reason I keep buying from you. But I keep getting items that are not machined correctly, wrong size bolts, different than the one I bought a few weeks ago.... It does get frustrating and in fact we shot a video about that issue earlier the day you posted here. We just posted that video today. Not at all to discourage people from buying Proaim but to maybe shake up the people at your factory and maybe test stuff before they ship it. I really do love your products and you have so much at great prices for film makers, I want to buy it all. But I also want it to work without having to work on it for a couple hours before I can use it.

We thought it could have been better, but we struggle between boring and informative trying to find the right balance.

Reduce the dampening on your pro control unit, and it will stop moving so quickly. If it doesn't your hand controller is defective.

When we lower the control there is a considerable delay before anything happens, sometimes several seconds. Then it shoots out suddenly as apposed to moving smoothly. There are so many issues with all of it, I just do not see us using them at all. When we purchased them, I really thought they would be more useful. It sways and is not smooth in and out, so other than acting as a static jib of different sizes it is really useless. It is also very heavy to travel with for what it can do, especially with the counter weights.

Oh wow, that's awful. Sounds like a defective unit. Do you know if others have had the same problem?@@mrdogpoopstudios

I bought it thinking I was getting a “technocrane” for indies. It was too good to be true but I head to try it out. I believe it is still useful, especially for jib shots (I don’t own a jib). As for a “technocrane” I don’t think it does a great job but it does an okay job and can get some spectacular shots. Recently, I changed the RS2 smoothness setting from 15 to 100 and things did improve. Still learning so I appreciate your video a lot (and your sense of humor too!! 😂)

You have to have a sense of humor when you bought 2 of them. Like you, I thought it would get smooth dolly type shots, it does not. It is really way to big and flexible to use regularly and it is to heavy and bulky to assemble for small jobs. It is kind of useless. And yet, it is super cool and fun to play with. I am sure some day I will find some use for it other than taking up shelf space.

when can I buy that long cable for the ronin?
@mrdogpoopstudios
@mrdogpoopstudios Ай бұрын
We actually had to buy 2 cables and splice them together. I ordered the plugs to replace one end so I could plug them together, but it was way to hard for me attach them, so I just cut them off and soldered the wires together. But I just checked eBay and now I see them up to 10 meters for $55. Here is the link www.ebay.com/itm/126100332883

so 700 dollars on bolts
@mrdogpoopstudios
@mrdogpoopstudios 7 ай бұрын
No, it was around $300 with the bolts, washers and acorn nuts and lock nuts, tax and shipping. But you should shop around, they should not be more than $2-3 each and I think you only need 24 or 25. So if you have lock nuts, then maybe $100 if you find a good deal. If they are not breaking, then don't replace them. Just get some standard bolts and keep them in the case if any break when using it. You don't need the shoulder bolts just to patch it up to complete a job.
