Thank you Ian and Carol for letting us come along. So relaxing to watch. Hello from the west coast of Canada 🇨🇦 . The bird song is lovely. Such a wonderful vlog.

Thanks Ian and Lovely Carol, for taking us along on this cruise which appeared to be nice, but you'd obviously edited out the grim bits so thanks for that, it's great to see that you are both doing well. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Thanks Stevie, I certainly did edit out the drug taking etc. Not appropriate for family viewing in my opinion.

Oh Ian, what a carry on. That was a frightening ordeal for you at the locks, drug dealers etc. Thank goodness that man didn't get hold of Smudge, it would have been devastating for everyone. But at least you came out the other side and had some lovely moorings. It was an experience. Years ago Fred and I hired a narrowboat for a week and did the Cheshire ring. As we approached Manchester, the locals were warning us it wouldn't be safe to moor up there, and 2 ladies had hired a boat and asked us if we could travel together until we got through Manchester. We live in a very sad world at the moment. Take care. xx
@NarrowboatTales Жыл бұрын
Thanks Jenny, I agree there are some parts we would prefer not to moor up at at night. You have to follow your gut feelings sometimes for sure.

Lovely to see you both getting back to normal. I suppose inner cities/towns get a bad name these days. It was strange to see so many unused moorings along the mile. The countryside was beautiful when you left the city, and I'm glad you found a peaceful place to moor up. Looking forward to more blogs and seeing you live on the cut. Best wishes both.

I lived there for 20 odd years, and used to cycle down to Abbey Park & Abbey Meadow Mills area where the river wear and lock merge. The Victorian, Abbey pumping station museum is also in the same area. That particular water way area was not nice in the day with rubbish and weeds all overgrown. From what you said it seems to have got a lot worse.

Yes, sadly i found it full of detritus which is such a shame. It spoils a great city.

Well our experience of Leicester was nothing like yours! We had no problems whatsoever. Stayed on the secure moorings for two nights with no issues. There were a few rats but that’s the same in almost any town. We’d visit again with no hesitation. Just to balance things!

Thanks you for your comments and balanced review. However, I would say these was my personal view at the time we passed through.

Fully agree we moor at Leicester marina, it can be dangerous in places. From the marina onwards towards sileby its wonderful all the way to the trent.

Yes, we did pass and indeed stay at some moorings and felt quite safe.

I did about 8 days there, during the recent riots...Apart from one night where some blokes had a bit of a fight, outside the boat and ended up in the river, it was fine. I'm single handed but was moored with a mate. The worst thing for me was the rowers, who were on the whole, incredibly rude and also the litter in the water. My mate and I moored on the rings, near the swans, for 5 nights, there were a couple of other boats there too. Also did Castle Gardens and Friar's Mill...zero issues there, plus water at FM and personal wheelie bins, at CG. I prefer to be in the countryside or small villages but genuinely had no problems there.

Thanks so much for your reply and very pleased you had a good experience.

Experiences do vary. We passed through a few years ago and it was fine. We stayed on the secure moorings in the centre. I've also wondered about all the rings with no boats... obviously Leicester does have a reputation otherwise people would be using them.

Thanks Rob. as I said in the vlog, these were my own personal impressions. I would loved to have gone into the city but both secure mooring were full.

Sorry to hear your bad experience of Leicester, we came thru Leicester in March & stayed over at Friars Mill without any problem. I am Leicester boy although I now live in a outlying village close to where you moored at the end of your cruise thru. Unfortunately like any large town /city it attracts an undesirable element & Leicester has its fair share. Leicester Marina is still there.

Can I please ask what range you have on full tank of fuel? Also have you thought about fitting a cage around the prop and a weed cutter attachment. Cheers.
@NarrowboatTales Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments. A tank of fuel will generally last 3 months but in winter with the diesel stove lit, we tend to need fuel every month. I have thought of a weed cutter and with Morning Star due out of the water for blacking this year, something to certainly consider.

Hi Guys, with respect was it the bad experiences you had, or the fear of the place from what you had been told? No offence intended but i didn't see any bad incidences and empty mooring spots could have a valid explanation. maybe i missed something. I'm not a fan of graffiti and thought it spoilt the canal side though.Happy days.
@NarrowboatTales Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comments and observations. The stretch into Leicester was quite intimidating. I did not show everything but we did have one issue where we were very conscious of keeping an eye out for each other. The detritus in the water was appalling sadly.
