Yep, these sounds still hold up because they come from East/West and Spectrasonics. Possibly Spitfire Audio too. I grabbed Composer Cloud and Omnisphere 2 in 2019 and instantly recognized so many sound patches and samples from Sacred 1 (and Star Craft too lmao). Unsure of who the composer was, but the arrangements still impress me to this day. Hell, you could release them in a modern game and people wouldn't bat an eye (too much). Good stuff!!

@@archmagejohnpaulii6287 1 was not as cheesy as 2 for sure. It was one of my gripes with Sacred 2 - it was much more bright and vibrant, and went all in on the cheese at every corner. In Sacred 1, there is cheese for sure, a lot of it hidden in gravestone messages or sidequests, but the world overall really feels like a very dark medieval world. Sacred 2 on the other hand had much more of a high fantasy vibe with sprawling civilizations.

Same! I can't quite put my finger on what exactly it was, but something about this game, to this day, hasn't been replicated in any other ARPG since. I remember just being blown away with how much diverse content there was. Even back then it just "felt" bigger than diablo, and in retrospect still feels more diverse than games like torchlight 2 (which I also really like). Like, all I remember from Diablo 2 is "forest, sand, bog, hell, 'stay a while and listen'" but with Sacred I can still (faintly, granted) remember windmills and farmers, the castles, the towns... it felt like a diablo clone looking up at baldur's gate. Now, the sequels... not my cup of tea, unfortunately. But I'm glad this one got made, literal days of fun with my friends at lan parties back when :)
@mage05344 жыл бұрын
I also played this extensively in my younger days, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Difference was I never played online (lack of internet and all), but i still enjoyed playing by myself. I don't believe I got very far into the game as I played with all the races and characters and kept them all to pretty much the same level. I also played the second one quite a bit, but same story as before. I was quite disappointed when my old af PC broke down (had it for like 10 years and never changed parts) and I couldn't play them, or any other game since. But I agree with the 3rd being rather shit. While the previous 2 had their own charm and style, the third was just a colorful diablo ripoff. It wasn't even done well. I got it as a gift for the 360 as my mother knew at the time I loved the previous two. But besides the third, the previous 2 were quite fun, from what I remember. What I especially enjoyed is the differences between the characters/races. But yeah, I'm glad to see that all these obscure and random games I enjoyed in my childhood weren't entirely ignored by others, so thanks for the video, gave me a serious case of happy nostalgia

One of my favourite things about this game is that there is some items that instakills any enemy that sees you if they are low level enough, combne that with the fact you could get your fully leveled and geared character and get it into a new game and it led to all sort of hilarity, my favourite being a group of thugs that posed as allies during one quest and then when they reveal their plot they literally just die.

There's a bit more about the scaling areas: It does not scale unlimited. Each area has a minimum level, a maximum level and I guess you could call it a "level adjustment". Let's say for example an area has a minimum level of 5, max of 10 and adjustment of +1. That means the game will try to make all enemies in the area one level higher than you, but only between 5 and 10. Any character 4 or below will face level 5 enemies, because that's as low as it goes. Once you hit level 5, you'll see level 6 enemies. At level 6 you'll see level 7 and so on until you reach level 10. Here the game can't spawn level 11, because that's above the max level, so the enemys will remain at 10. So it is possible to run into zones that you are totally overleveled or underleveled for. Especially on bronze you'll quickly find yourself higher than the max level of the zones or if you play on Silver and only rush the main story, you can quickly find yourself up against enemies that are significantly higher than you. The Orc island was an easer egg. Mal-Orc-A is a play on the island of Malorca in the mediteranean, an absolute hotspot for German party tourists. And some might argue that those party tourists do behave rather orc-like in her vacation. :P The underworld wasn't part of vanilla Sacred and was added with the expansion (together with the playable Dwarf). Also the original German voice acting is quite a bit better than the poor english translation. Nice to see that the game does get at least a little international attention. I was under the impression that outside of the German speaking countries this game was pretty much unknown. A real shame, since I always prefered it over Diablo 2. In fact between the "triumvirate" of Diablo 2, Titan Quest and Sacred 1, Diablo 2 is acually on the third spot for me, with Titan Quest taking the crown and Sacred coming in second. That's not to say that D2 is bad, on the contrary, I just like the other two even more than D2.

I don't know if you ever played or watched a game called Blood Omen, compare the enemies and the demons (also you will see diablo as a random enemy), you will see that diablo and diablo 2 took or "stole" ideas from that game, personally i don't like when every time that a new isometric game came people say "is a diablo like", the same happened with warcraft, When blizzard was developing the original warcraft, they tried to get the Warhammer Fantasy Battle license from Games Workshop, so that it could be released as an official Warhammer game. Games Workshop turned them down, so when warcraft was released in 1994, it didn't have the Warhammer name on it, but it drew heavy inspiration from the Warhammer Fantasy Battle world. starcraft in its turn pulled a whole lot of inspiration from WH40K (take a look at the starcraft space marines versus the WH40K Space Marines, the zerg versus the Tyranids, the protoss versus the eldar, etc.). So we might say that warcraft, starcraft and even world of warcraft exist thanks to Warhammer Fantasy Battle and when you said diablo 4 might took inspiration from Sacred, I believe you.

It even appeared on main stream TV channels a few times with it's own little segments. Omg so good!!! And let's Not forget it had 10 player open world pve and 10 player open world PVP custom matches, random matches

First video I saw from you and you earned a sub. A real classic of a game and a great review!

Soo I just found your channel yesterday night and I loved it, I really hope you do more of these, they are not only a way of finding nice games, but also for good criticism and banter. I would also recommend you to try( since you said numerous times that you like horror) desolate. While playing it I liked the ambiance, the scenery and how they did horror without making you not have any weapons. Also you can play with a friend. Cheers! Ps: I know the reviews are mixed but you can give it a try. Also if you read this comment when I post it the game is on sale

I used to play sacred and diablo 2 in my early youth and I dont remember them being soo similar, I didnt realize sacred was arpg. I think its because the map was soo open compared to diablo, it reminded me more of Baldurs gate. So this video really opened my mind and cleared some fogged memories, thanks for this great vid my man.

Sacred 1 and 2 are by far the most underrated ARPGs ever made. After Revenant of course wich was maybe "too much" for it's time.

deffinitely one if my fav games when i was a kid, I mean, I probably spent hundreds of hours in this world playing multiple playthroughs, but the funny thing is that only now have I learned how those damn skills and combos work:Dd always ignored them, great video btw! maybe would appriciate a bit more of a underworld dissection, but still great nontheless:D

I had a blast playing this game. A little known fact by the way, loot drops from monsters ARE different in various areas, and if you really know the well hidden places, you can get some really fancy stuff. ( there is for instance a dungeon area where all mobs only drop rings and amulets, which is a great place to farm some good ones to socket into your gear ). My favorite class was the seraphim with their orbital laser cannons and other fun abilities. I ended up with one that was utterly immortal because of massive life leech + dps.

if u play the 2nd Sacred, consider using the community patch for bugfixes and QoL changes. Also the diablo 2 mod for Sacred 2 is by far the coolest thing i ever played. GREAT VIDEO KEEP UP THE WORK

Seriously, I couldn't get in sacred 2 I've been playing sacred 1 on and off and i have probably like 1000hours in thsi game or more since ~~2010(?) and i've tried to play second game like 5 times but never end up completing it. I find it opposite to sacred 1 - classes are generic and boring, level ups doesn't give that satisfaction.

The sidequests do one important thing that you seem to have missed, they show you locations you might have missed while exploring. Originally, the sidequests were all random, and they changed this to static sidequests along the way. I feel it was a mistake, but they still point you to locations you might not have gone to otherwise.

hey man. You popped up in my recommends a couple weeks ago and I've been lurking since. You are an excellent content producer from what I've seen thus far. I like the tone and cadence of your delivery. I look forward to seeing more. I'm not a big social media guy myself, but I know quite a few folks are all about that jazz. It's only a matter of time until it's pretty much a requirement for you bossman lol. Thank you for khannntent kind sir!

I need to replay this again. I played it several times during many years but I never fully played with anything else but Gladiator. I played with the dark elf a lot as well just because of those class weapons that look so sick. Every time I see this game it takes me back...

I wanted to try something a little bit more rasonable, so I switched to the battlemage. Ah, yes, the famous "reasonable" battlemage: a class with insanely low cooldowns (for being a caster) and the best aoe skill in the game. XD Excellent video, tho.

Sacred first was conceived as a videogame named Armalion, an adaption of The Dark Eye, the big German fantasy tabletop RPG. You can find a gravestone ingame for "A. R. Malion". I almost believe there are gravestones for "The Lady, the Mage and the Knight" too. Which was a similiar project with similiar outcome at Larian studios.

This video came out just in time. For the last few days I've been thinking of starting playing Sacred again. I used to love it back in a day. I've never played the second or third game though. I've heard they aren't as good as the original, but maybe I'm wrong. Anyhow, I'm off playing Sacred Gold until the review of the second game comes out.

I don't know what third game you are talking about, there was no sacred 3 /sarcasm/ 2 was really great though.

Sacred 2 is a fantastic game. It is almost singlehandedly responsible for my taste in music by introducing me to Blind Guardian so I may be a little biased. I have hundreds of hours spent in that game. Sacred 3 however is a dumpster fire that arbitrarily decided to just change genres, it is more similar to something like Gauntlet than any other ARPG on the market.
@keiyangoshin36504 жыл бұрын
I played a dark elf, (best voice acting ever), with dual wield naturally. After that I just equipped whatever was better lol. I did try to have elemental damage + poison. Meaning even dragons went down easy. My favourite part however was the dry humor of my character lol. One negative feature? The inventory is too small. I’ve seen a graphic upgrade by Azzal. Might try it. Thanks for the video! Stay safe. ❤️
@PanzerShrek943 жыл бұрын
you remember that Medusa boss in the dark elf caves?she had a one handed blade staff that dealt immense damage.i used disarm to get it on both bronze and silver difficulty.then on gold difficulty i used my dark elf to dual wield 2 of them.literally killed a dragon boss in 5 seconds it was so overpowered.

I'm so surprised people still remember the Sacred games! The 1st and 2nd instalments are very influential in their genre and you can find hints of Sacred 2 in games today. Years later it brings me to a good reviewer so Ascaron's gift keeps on giving. To anyone unfamiliar with the Sacred games, if you were even somewhat interested in this game I cannot recommend you Sacred 2 enough. It is probably one of the most ambitious games of all time and in many ways it achieves its goals. It has a lot of passion and care behind it and it truly shows.

Ah, Sacred Gold. What fun. I remember having a helm with a chance to kill an enemy on sight. It bugged out when I started a multiplayer game, and killed literally every single enemy on sight. Instantly. Bosses included. Game breaking AND hilarious.

With this video popping randomly in my suggest list I have discovered your channnel. I have watched a lot of your videos now and honestly I am surprised at how few subscribers you have. You make really good video reviews in a similar style to other youtubers such as Mandalore Gaming. I really hope your channel is going to flourish with subscribers and viewers (and I'm pretty sure it will in the long run) and for you to keep up the great work. Also, why do you not have a Patreon? People would surely support you so that you can do this full time.

I'll never forget my epic combo with the wood elf: Use Multiple Arrow (makes you shoot 6 arrows instead of one, for 20-ish seconds) Then a combo of 4 successive Piercing Arrows (magic seeker arrows that ignore defense). Then sit and watch as the green Swarm cloud tears anything down to shreds. :)
@PanzerShrek943 жыл бұрын
i used that with explosive arrow on bosses.use multiple arrow and then 3 Explosive arrow in one combo.you will shoot 18 explosive arrows one after the other.
@SimOmega472 жыл бұрын
@@PanzerShrek94 Yeah it's my 2nd fav combo lol But it's better to use Multiple Arrow manually, then the Combo of 4x Explosive Arrow. This way you get 24 arrows instead of 18. What I didn't like is having to stand really close to the boss to have more Explosive Arrows hit because if the large shooting arc. Piercing Arrows always hit, ignore defense, and are insanely stylish in large number IMO.
@PanzerShrek942 жыл бұрын
@@SimOmega47 one more combo i like is with the battle mage ring of fire.if it's high enough level and you use 4 then it's like a nuke.gather dozens of enemies to chase you and pop the combo.

You are so right: this Game screams for Multiclass but it has no. I would Fall in Love with this Classic High Fantasy Game had Something like magic Missles for the Mage. Like the Spells, the necromancer used in the cinematic. It looked so awesome and i was so dissapointed that the Battlemage has no skill that looks simular. Sound Stupid but i love magic missles and arcane magic so much ^^

You naming your vamp character Kate Beckinsale had me laughing so much. Actually i still to this day call melee characters in many fantasy ARPGs 'Bladelok'. What was the elf called? Megaelcarwen? - That's as good an Elf name as you'll find anywhere really. I remember one time when Ascaron were asking the fans on the forum what playable characters they wanted to see in an expansion and i said 'Gunpowder Dwarf' so to this day i feel personally responsible for them putting a Gunpowder Dwarf in the game and i'm glad they did! Of course it was a German Gunpowder Dwarf.
