0:45 despite demon lord being defeated they could have taken the story in a far more interesting direction and started out the tournament part earlier but this comes down to how the manga is written. One issue with frieren is how it showcase too much of the past, where it would have been better if it was refered through dialogue rather showcasing the scenes (creates mystery). Just compare it to Rurouni kenshin which is kinda a "beyond journey's end" it did it far better by keeping the past limited in what we know + Rurouni kenshin was more balanced around the slice of life moments and action without being too stale which is why frieren feels like an slog especially when some of the cast feels so nonchalant and bland. That dragon fight lasted only a min or so before it was over which isn't actually much action.

On FMAB: The caricature jokes in the first few eps were so jarring, inappropriately timed and seemed to be at war with the tone and significance of each plot point they established as the episodes went by. It was almost like for every potentially serious plot bit they put down there was one caricature joke or offhanded remark by the characters to push it to the corner and gloss over quickly. As a result the first 10 episodes or so felt hella rushed and weirdly trivial even though they had no reason to be. At the time, I didn't understand the logic behind such a move until I learnt that FMAB was partly a successor of sorts to an already established yet different story (FMA 2003), and that they both had similar plot foundations, which the director(s) of the anime probably assumed the audience would already know before watching FMAB. All in all, if I were to learn someone had dropped the anime during those first few episodes, I wouldn't even judge them.

Frieren is such a weird show for me. I dropped it about 6 or 7 episodes in, and I don't really know why. It's not the slow pacing, I've liked many shows with slow pacing and am a fan of the slice of life genre in general, known for it's slow, relaxed pace. It's not that I don't understand the themes of the show either, it's not very hard to see the meaning in the show and it's importance. I think one of the reasons is because of the character interactions, it kinda feels like a bunch of emotionless robots got together and started talking to each other. They all just have this facial expression of :| most of the time, and I don't derive any enjoyment from most of their interactions. However, I don't really know if that's the reason I don't like it. Whatever the case, Frieren just aint it for me :/

Many shounen have satisfactory ending that despite some initial backlash, will eventually get accepted like Bleach, Naruto, Yu yu yakusho, Dragon Ball, Fire force, Mashle, Nisekoi,.... However there are shounen with objectively bad ending mainly because the author forgot the main setup of his show, like MHA, JJK (mixed feeling on this), Hitman Reborn, Negima... Attack on Titan is a special case because Isayama knew he wrote himself into a corner with Eren which led him to introduce a shitty plot twist at the end and scrap the natural conclusion of his story just to turn his work into a franchise in the most insulting way. My point is that, the majority of the fan can pretty much agree on the main point of a show and the author has the OBLIGATION to know it.

I love ymir as a character.. I believe most people didn't get her character in the end..Let me explain.. Why did ymir go back to King Fritz after acquiring the Titan:- We have two perspectives on ymir from other characters,Eren and Armin.. They both come to different conclusions about her.. Eren tells us that she was in love with king Fritz.. this is what Eren thinks of her.. and Armin tells us that Ymir is seeking a connection.. That's why the Paths exist and every Subject of Ymir which are descendents of Ymir is connected by the Paths.. It's because Ymir was lonely her whole life and was seeking a genuine connection..That's why even when she got the biggest power in the world, she still went to the King that had sent dogs to kill her.. In my opinion Ymir has been lonely her whole life.. Historia's sister says about Ymir that she was a kind soul and always wanted to help others.. In the village before it was ravaged by king Fritz Ymir is shown to be helping others.. There is a scene of her looking at a wedding with a sense of wanting..For Ymir being lonely is the worst thing that could happen to her even if she has the power to destroy the world,She doesn't know what to do with that power..That's why she went back to the King that tried to kill her by feeding her to the dogs.. She literally can't think for herself.. She needs someone to be by her even if that person is a horrible human being.. I don't think she loves her like you see other characters love each other in a story or in real life.. She doesn't even know what a healthy relationship looks like.. Her going back to King Fritz is not because she had a girly crush on that king or something like that.. She is just there because of her fears.. I have seen so many abusive relationships and marriages like that in real life.. Like a person clearly doesn't like being in a relationship.. they know it's an abusive relationship and they are not happy being with their partner but they don't leave because it's more scary for them to leave their partners and to start fresh than let things be as they have always been.. and it's a sad thing to see but that's the reality.. Ymir to me is a child who is so scared to be alone and who can't think for herself that she thinks it's better for her to let king Fritz use her than to be left alone by everyone.. That's why the Paths exist and every Eldian is connected to her..That's why even after the King died she kept following his orders for 2000 years.. She knows king Fritz doesn't give a shot about her and she still lets him use her powers.. Ymir is such a great character..You have to really think about her character to appreciate her.. People are dumb..they are just ready to call something poorly written rather than use their brains and try to understand why certain things are there in a story.. I disagree with the take she is just a plot device..

My biggest problem with ending (besides the fact that characters worked together too well for people who not so long ago hated each other) is Isayama's strange love move. Like what's the point of Ymir loving the one who abused her? We already got "Ymir is satisfied/free" moment back at end of part 2. And making a connection with Mikasa? It's like making connections, between not pre-existing dots. I liked how aftermath of Eren's rumbling was handled and how story of many characters has ended. But making Eren a clown, who was making smart moves, planned ahead, to just say in the end:"Sorry armin, i am dumb and i did all of that for you guys and because i want mikasa to step on me" (well making Eren to care about his friends is cool. Especially because in a way he gave away his freedom to be with Mikasa for the good of his friends.). So yeah, ending has some good but still a lot of, if not bad, but questionable decisions

The topic of remakes also conflicts me cuz while there are some good to great remakes (Yaiba, Dragon Quest Dai, maybe Ranma and Urusei Yatsura), others like Rurouni Kenshin, Spice and Wolf and Shaman King range from awful to one of the shows of all time. Meanwhile all the high profile staff are working on some of the new upcoming hits or passion projects (in cases like Yaiba) and people expect the remakes to live up to those standards otherwise they probably wouldn’t want them remade. I get that people want stuff like Soul Eater to be remade to finish the story or Yu Yu Hakusho to be made to bring the series to a more modern look, but with how stacked the staffs were of those original series, the remakes would probably be an inferior product visually. Or in the case of something like Tokyo Ghoul, the staff people would want on the show would likely not be free at the moment cuz of things like CSM, JJK and Dandadan constantly in production and getting more and more seasons. It is nice to see when remakes can be done well (Yaiba looks like it’s gonna be fantastic) but sometimes people have unrealistic expectations, like I heard someone wanted a show that came out this year to be remade in 50 consecutive episodes of Frieren quality lmaooo. And it’s hard because not everyone’s just gonna know about anime productions and all the studio pipelines, but at the same time some people just see studios as anime making vending machines that can pick up any show at any time and are just setting themselves up for disappointment
@cwega24632 ай бұрын
remakes are so weird. like the new spice and wolf (imo, i don’t even know the fanbases consensus on it) is kinda bad. animation ranges from stiff and awkward to lifeless and powerpoint like. the compositing just looks bad. the art is wildly inconsistent and looks worse than the original version (made even more obvious when the director decides to do a shot for shot remake for some scenes). and overall it feels like it lacks that extra something.

I actually think that remakes are actually mostly unnecessary unless it is a remake of a poor adaptation. We don't need remakes, as plenty of shows still hold up, and I find that a lot of the directing in old anime can have a very unique style that is not in modern anime. Speaking of manga, which medium is better is entirely subjective, and almost entirely depends on the type of story being told. When adapting from a manga, a lot of the storytelling techniques used in manga just cannot be used very well in anime, so they would have to make a change for it to work, and things get lost in translation when adapting something. So I don't think "perfect anime" vs "perfect manga" would mean that the anime would win every time.

The love that eren talked about was his own interpretation but it was a twisted satisfaction from being needed by someone, that she used to blind herself from her fear of having free will. On the Big 3 take i very much agree, i mean those are good stories, but the best o the genre? even i don't consider FMA the Best of the Best but i think its superior to all those, HxH in some degree too, and even, some new gen animes/mangas, the big 3 is based almost purely in nostalgia, because we were raised seeing those stories. In the same way Dragon Ball-Saint Seiya-Yu Yu Hakusho's Fans surely will say that those are superior to the Big 3 because they were raised with those. Is like "who is the strongest superhero?" meme.

The biggest advantage/disadvantage of One Piece is its length, I can't name a single manga that goes from good to bad to good as often as it does
@uddaloknag17512 ай бұрын
The peaks of one piece are some of the highest I have seen in manga, and when Oda wants to write a good character moment, few mangaka can match his prowess. But yes, there are several slumps too. And if not for those peaks, I would have dropped one piece completely after the 4th fake out death. It actively hurts an otherwise excellent story. Sabo should have stayed fucking dead. Also, One piece is very hard to recommend because of it's lackluster anime adaptation. Yes, it has gotten leagues better recently. But there's still 900 episodes of mediocre production. That orders of magnitude longer than lots of other shows.

The big three in terms of animes, are honestly just not that good. The manga, however, is where it's at. Bleach suffered the most, from things like filler, bad animation and drawings and padding. Also, some semi-filler scene almost completely change some of the story elements and ruin some key moments. That being said, TYBW adaptation, from the story perspective, improves the manga material.

People forget that Code Geass was heavily inspired by Gundam, as the ending is very similar to Char's Counterattack, and the rest of the story similar to other Gundam shows. I would even say that AOT Final Season is heavily inspired by Char's Counterattack more than Code Geass. Even Zeta Gundam has a character with a girl's name who's parents are killed by Titans and is a hot headed soldier using mechs to fight against them. I mean Gundam is heavily ingrained into anime in general, so it's not surprising to see many similarities between shows, but still.

I half agree about the anime OPs take. I do think there’s a clear structure that a lot of them follow so it’s interesting when OPs do something outside of that but song wise I don’t think I want them to be experimental for the sake of it. Boku no Sensou for AoT was a case that I really liked, but even though Monster’s OP is instrumental and not like many other OPs, it doesn’t make me go “man that’s a banger OP!” but that’s just me (granted a J-Rock OP wouldn’t fit Monster anyways but regardless lmao). And this might sound contradictory but I think songs can be experimental while still being within that structure like SPECIALZ from JJK. Even though it follows that structure, there’s a reason why it’s a bit of a polarizing OP to some (even though it’s my favorite by a long shot lmao). Also J-Rock OPs still exist among some of the known shonens like MHA, Bleach and Demon Slayer but I feel like as anime try to get more and more popular artists, those are becoming a relic of the past. This year in regards to popular shows Frieren had pop style for OP1 and a soft rock style for OP2, Kaiju No.8 had a western artist produced by Imagine Dragons, Mashle had a jersey club beat alongside Dandadan also getting Creepy Nuts, Solo Leveling had Sawano x K-Pop, etc. Visually though I agree 100% and that’s why I liked stuff like Shun Enokido’s Mashle OP

When Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood first came out, i remember being irritated by the creative choices made in the first few episodes. The seriousness of the plots switched over so abruptly to stupid anime comedy faces thag it was jarring... I like the later episodes, but those first few episodes incorporated so many elements of sitcoms, i hated it at first. It's only the manga that kept me loyal to the anime because i wanted to see particular plot points animated Regarding Jujutsu Kaisen, i will firmly place Sukuna vs Jogo and Yuji vs Choso far above Sukuna vs Mahoraga. While I understand that the last one was a fight between God-like beings, I ain't watching the headache inducing scenes a second time. However, the former two, I ahve played back an unholy number of times to calm my lizard brain. I agree with your take on FMAB. The caricature jokes in the first few eps were so jarring, inappropriately timed and seemed to be at war with the tone and significance of each plot point they established as the episodes went. It was almost like for every potentially serious plot bit they put down there was one caricature joke or offhanded remark by the characters to push it to the corner and gloss over quickly. As a result the first 10 episodes or so felt hella rushed and weirdly trivial even though they had no reason to be. At the time, I didn't understand the logic behind such a move until I learnt that FMAB was a successor of sorts to an already established yet different story (FMA 2003), and they both had similar plot foundations, which the director(s) of the anime probably assumed the audience would already know by then. All in all, if I were to learn someone had dropped the anime during those first few episodes, I wouldn't even judge them.

People say Ymir is a plot device because her perspective and reasoning for her actions in the end fell apart. It's not that she drives the plot forwards but that it's in a way most people don't REALLY believe makes sense for her at all(most people because there's barely anyone who says they love her character in the end, they just love other things which are demonstrated by you agreeing she's a plot device and not going into the logic of her actions). That's what a bad plot device is - something which didn't manage to hide the author's intentions(move the plot in a specific direction) as an actual character /thing that could happen based on what was set up. In the end it felt like her character WAS Isayama for a lot of people and everything else was an excuse which didn't make sense to them. (I dropped aot post basement reveal because it felt to me like "what if Claymore but poorly fleshing out an entire rest of the world for only 30 chapters after so we could have the rumbling" when I appreciated claymore for them NOT starting a new war on the continent.) You're so snarky and even though that's fun in other videos, hot take videos are losing me!

The FMA stuff is so silly to me. I've seen that exact sentiment before and this is what I wrote: At the very least the structure and set up of it is pretty astonishing in its field. The structure because everything is so clear and important, nothing is really wasted, and the setup because of how instinctually moving and evocative it is. Shonens are usually designed to go on forever and aren't very evocative in what their protagonists want. They don't dig deep into the human experience in that regard. FMA's premise really has that timeless, spiritual richness, in its particular blend of fear and hope, physicality and fantasy, pathos and horror. Because the premise is so perfect I think Arakawa is able to build everything else on top of it a lot more seamlessly, its telling that its one of the only shonens of its length that is never split into "arcs" by fans. The work is too unified for that. Even the manga that are better than it can't boast that. Really I'd say FMA is better at most things than most shonens. But premise and overall structure are the two things that I think Arakawa nailed so perfectly that I can more easily argue for them off the top of my head. I think my big question is, if not FMA, what's a manga that does do something super super amazing?
@cwega24632 ай бұрын

The problem isn't just having to go out to theatre's, it's the fact that anime movies almost never globally release and at some point you'll have to dodge spoilers for months on end if you don't live in Japan, the reason why going to movie theatre's is also amazingly annoying especially for an anime movie of a well known ip is bc other anime fans will be there, yelling at the top of their lungs acting like children, I want to enjoy the show without having some deodorant dodging, manchild sitting next to me, it's also annoying for people who are big animation fans (people who actually like looking into the production process) bc we all usually like watching the show or movie over and over to understand each scene at its core and that's impossible to do until someone is able to leak it on a pirating site or until it's available on crunchyroll, there's also the issue of it being expensive, you having to buy tickets before they're bought out etc, making movies for already known ip's unless they're unique stories to that ip or another existing ip with no adaptation, or if they're unique stories entirely is dumb, nobody gives a crap about an mha movie with non canon characters that's disjointed chronologically, Toho just wants money.
