Problems for TALL Cellists

Hello Everyone!!
First of all--Thanks for helping us reach over 4K! :-)
We are back with a new “Cello Problems” video, but this time specifically on TALL cellists (!!), featuring my good friend and TALL cellist Alyssa! She actually came up with this idea after she discovered our first “Cello Problems” video, jokingly saying that I should make one for tall cellists and this gave me the idea. I replied saying, “Yea, that’s a really good idea and you could be the star!!” Weeks later, we filmed and here we are: revealing some struggles of TALL cellists that we may not realize, and some pluses too, haha!
Hope you all enjoy this new video, “Problems for TALL Cellists”!!! This is the first time one of my friends has been the main feature of a video and she has done a terrific job, so please be supportive and nice in the comments and give this video a thumbs up! :)

As a pianist, i really respect string players, especially cellists and contrabass players (bassists?). It's very tiresome to carry the heavy instruments everywhere but string players still dont give up on their dreams. You guys have my respect 🙏

I'm a pianist, an organist and a guitarist. I really respect Cellist, because of their travel problems. But we, which are pianist, can't move our strument, so we can't play everywhere and when we want. I think that it's a big problem, bigger than the weight of a cello. My girlfriend is a cellist, and I often move her cello, so I know that the weight of a cello isn't higher than the weight of an acoustic guitar. Sorry for my English, but I'm Italian, and peace :)

The chair struggle is so real. In my orchestra they had 4 chairs that were taller than the rest and we had 5 people who needed them so everyday it was a bloodbath in the fight for a proper chair.

Though its all worth it because of how beautiful the music sounds and how fun it is to learn it. ( unless your parents forced hell on you to play it then yeah )

As a 6'6 (198 cm I write it down because I had to make the conversion) cellist, this video is so true. You could have add also the C peg disturbing your neck posture, I had to change it for a smaller one ( the peg not the neck even if it could have been useful too). I was thinking that everyone was able to play and tune at the same time, because it is so easy for me. Really good video indeed!

Well, I started learning the cello last year and I am over 6.6' (2,03m) tall, and it works just fine. Sometimes I have to stack two chairs together to have the right height to sit, and the door problem for me is a bit bigger, because first I have to look out to not hit my head against the doorframe, and then i need to watch the cello case. But on the bright side: Its still better than if I would have learned the piano, because now I can't even get my knees under the piano when I sit :D

Goodness, props to you man! That would be quite the undertaking. xD And I can relate to not being able to get your knees under pianos... thankfully mine can still fit under most, but every now and again they don't.

I love your video. A new cello player I am 5'7". You can tune in a neat way, plus reach more than an octave! I like your cello case, too, it is a candy-apple red colour. You going through the door with your cello was funny, and your trying out chairs was hilarious. Great video! Thanks!

Great video! :-) I find a bent spike helps too. My chair's as tall as is practical, and the bent spike lifts the bottom of the cello up away from my knees, whilst keeping the fingerboard in the same place relative to my arms and head.

I am a really tall bass player and I once tried to play cello, but there are a couple of problems: 1. Needs more bass 2.I am used to thicker strings(especially the bass e string) and I just couldn't get a thick sound because I was pressing too hard. 3. At my orchestra cellists carry their cello when we travel, but bassists have their basses carried for them which is a plus. So yeah, I prefer bass.

Blaine Measel, my son is also a tall cellist. He has one of the tall cello chairs, which is great, but we also found this cello cushion to be helpful. It is much easier to travel with, and makes most chairs usable. He has a 5 inch cushion. www.celloseatcushions.com : )

Now days, can 5 ft 11 be considered tall? I think it is relative. In Holland the average height is 6ft for man. I am this high and feel pretty average. But I guess it can be considered tall for woman.

Chair!! OMG, at least your chair is foldable! I used to carry my daugher's cello (ok, it is tiny,1/4 size), her backpack, my backpack and a regular chair like this one ameco.pl/wp-content/uploads/2019/02/dobre-krzeslo-1.png - heavy as hell. Because all of the school chairs were too big for a small 7yo. PAIN.
