Last week we installed the e-locker... This week we are fighting it!! I had some bizarre actuator issues. All seem to be sorted and ready to go now.

I'm glad your transparent about how anything can happen. Even to a well seasoned builder and fabricator. These things do happen.🐺👍

I felt responsible to make a video about these struggles. I made a video about how to install it at home, and how your average Joe can do it! But most shows leave out the struggles of getting things to actually work.

One thing to be careful with a leaking rear axle seal, it could be a sign that your wheel bearing is on its way out. That is what caused mine to leak. I would recommend doing both bearings at the same time if this is the case as the other side on mine was on its way out too. Also, those locker actuators can be pretty finicky. I have a harness I purchased and the wire gauge is pretty small. This leads to enough voltage drop in the wire harness that the motor cannot start sometimes on one of my lockers. If I can hit it with a full 12v right at the locker it will un stick and be fine for a while again. I would definitely recommend taking the actuator apart and cleaning it up with some new grease. Also make sure that the vent is ran somewhere it cannot get water in it. Mine were full of corrosion from open vents. Another thing that happened recently was the magnets came unglued from the inside of the motor can on my rear locker. Nice work on the videos. Cheers from northern BC!

Haha, that side with the leaky rear axle seal's bearing totally went on my way home from Moab! Gonna re-do the entire rear end, drums, seals, bearings and all pretty soon. My wiring is beefier than the stock wiring. Since this video my locker has been working flawlessly, thanks for the comment!

Thanks for this video and others on diagnosing e Locker stuff. I have a elocker swapped front axle like yourself but can't get it to even try to engage, not sure if it's my homemade wiring or the actuator miss clocked but looks like it's easy to pull the actuator and check.

I think you should do a anti wrap bar for the front and rear.

that is such an odd issue that it sometimes works and sometimes doesnt... kinda sounds like an alignment issue, but the first thing that popped into my head was a bushing on the sliding locking part inside the housing... just looked up the parts breakdown for an elocker, and honestly, it might have something to do with the top bolt that you couldnt install on the side cap. it supports the side of the actuator shaft, and if it wobbles, it may bind... you could possibly remove it, chamfer it deep, then run a flat head cap bolt on it to keep it tight against the 3rd... www.toyotapartsdirect.ca/a/Toyota_2001_4Runner-SR5-V6-0008-SR50008--3400CC-EFI--AUTOMATIC-4-SPEED/_53728_5926928/Rear-axle-housing--differential/411147-4101-671460.html

That cover has a circle thing that slots into the diff and stops it from moving side to side. No chance of it moving.. Its also RTV'd so it should not move. Interesting theory though! Honestly it must not been aligned 100% and been a tooth off and forcing the locker into a position it did not like?

@@DirtGarage im not sure, as ive never actually seen a elocker before, but i do know that even the slightest movement on a machined part can cause binding issues. I used to pull wrenches full time, and was constantly repairing and replacing parts on dodge front diffs from people putting it into 4x4 while spinning or something... they would bend the front diff actuator shaft slightly where the arm attached, and it would be enough to stop the vacuum actuator from being able to move it. You could move it with a screwdriver (though it had a bit of resistance) easy enough... Honestly, id have to see it to make a proper diagnosis, but im just drawing from my experience haha! I hope it functions flawlessly for you down in moab. Maybe when you get back, you could pull the cap and get a flat head socket cap installed, just for peace of mind haha! Cheers!

was just talking to my buddy Kyle (apparently you got that elocker off him haha!) and he says the actuator is a huge problem. weak link, prone to failure. so my money is on a weak actuator haha.
