Hey Danger Dan, love your work brother! I'm in Australia, and we have a long history of engine conversions, even our manufacturers used to play a big part in this once upon a time. Anyway, what I was thinking... I was impressed watching that little truck sliding in stock form, but then I just noticed (3rd time watching this current build) that the little beast was 4WD too! Personally, I'd use that little 660cc Kei engine in a "Shart-kart 2.0" build. Full tube frame, drop the engine and front and rear differentials in, strap a little T25 turbo to it, beef up the driveshafts. Instant track monster to compliment the miata Shart-Kart. Set one up for sliding, and the other one for racing... Just an idea, cause I'd have a crack at it if I could. Instead, I'm building a Ford ute (the Holden ute's long time rival), and the 1JZ-GTE in my 91 Soarer might be finding a home in it next...

I'd you can find a gearbox linkage from a Nissan c22 Vanette from the 90's it's a piece of art and works with a standard 5 speed transmission. It should theoretically be perfect for the braptruck and looks really cool if left uncovered. The problem is almost all of them got crushed because they caught fire in American spec with auto air conditioning power steering and 2.4 engine, my manual 2.0 with manual steering box just overheated all the time until I put the radiator at the back where the spare used to go. It has 444,000km on the clock, I've had it 15 years and I love it, still runs and I only just got the secondary on the carburettor working properly so it's actually got most of the 90 hp it had from the factory. With transverse leaf front suspension like the rear of a corvette, carry weight of 1100kg and weight of about 1200kg it's actually alot of fun and handles way better than it has any right to, it's actually a work of genius failed by lack of engine bay cooling, it's mostly Datsun underneath so that explains some of it. I think it's a work of genius with one design flaw, lack of engine bay cooling, and ultimately the American car marketing idiots who made sure it was overspecced caused it's sad demise in America at least. I'm in Australia and I think mine is a New Zealand import. Very special little unit, the commercial one is the one to go for with stiff springs, big brakes, low weight, lower roofline and massive rear rake except with over a ton of load when it's only a mild forward lean, lol. I've got a stack of speeding fines from mine and that was before the carb worked properly, fun times. I'll never get rid of my Vanessa, why would you really? A mobile tool shed is pretty handy if nothing else, and not many people can say their tool shed handles like it's on rails when it's dry and like a drift car in the wet, but mine does. The bloody air-conditioning is still ice cold in an instant and it's a '94. This is why I love Nissan/Datsun, the only real problem with them is body oxidation, something the recent explosion of 240Z builds has shown, the bolts that have never been cracked since the 70's come off like new, that's the word from my grizzled old mate with a first gen 260Z anyway.

Skwisgar2322 Good call, I hadn’t considered that. Especially with the stock kei truck axle ratios being so high, even assuming an 8500RPM redline the top speed would be hilariously low. On the other hand, it’s a pit truck so it could probably use the towing torque more than the top speed. With the right combination of trans and diff ratios, it might actually work out just right.

Those things are notorious for maiming legs even on slow impacts… there was an guy who lost both of his legs from knee down after aqua plaining at 40kph / sub 25 mph speed . He hit guardrail of bridge and the whole car was fine apart from foot well of drivers side . There is just nothing to take the impact and to prevent the pedals to shoot up n crush your legs. If i remember correctly ( been 15 ish years ago ) there is less than 2 inch of space between the outside of car to where foot well begins inside .

It might be crazy but I've seen a few rock crawlers use fwd drivetrains like a transfer case. If you used a Civic or Accord transmission from the 90's to early 2000's it looks like it will put the front shaft in the right spot and leave a ton of room to figure out the rear. Certain Acuras had bolt on axle shafts if I remember correctly, so that might make it easier to get a driveshaft figured out. That should handle the power of an na 13b without issue. Super low gearing would be the only drawback I can think of.
@lucaswarren59476 жыл бұрын
For transmissions I'd look to what the circle track guys are using. Ford toploader 3 speed out of a truck should give lots of low speed range and they are cheap and plentiful. Same thing with a Muncie.
