2 of thing things that I've been wondering about since I started trying to learn Blender are: How to make a star background, and how to make the camera track an object. So, in addition to learning how to make a planet, I took away 2 really useful tips from this tutorial.

Fantastic tutorial. Would be great if you added an atmosphere shell as a separate sphere. Would love to see how you'd set up procedural clouds.
@RyanKingArt2 жыл бұрын
thanks! Yes, you could duplicate the sphere, and scale it up slightly. then you could add a separate material, but still use the same atmosphere node setup. Just switch out the principled shader to a transparent shader, so you can see the planet through the atmosphere.
@S-I-T2 жыл бұрын
It would add a lovely depth to the planet surface casting shadows etc.
@the_omg32422 жыл бұрын
I was actually wondering about that too. I've been trying to learn Blender after not touching 3D software for decades and back when I was using Lightwave a lot, a planet sphere and an atmosphere sphere was the normal way of doing it. Also, shouldn't the terminator be closer to the center of the planet. It looks like it's illuminated too far past the curve of the planet.

Amazingly done. Juste a little tip, the stars behind the planet will not be visible because the planet is too bright so you don’t need to add them. (And it’s more realistic). Thank you tho for the procedural stars.

In Blender, we don't need things to be 100% physically accurate, to have more artistic freedom.
@RyanKingArt2 жыл бұрын
Ahh yeah, I see what you mean. You actually would not be able to see the stars. But in this case, I'm creating an artwork, so having stars is more artistically appealing.

Also, why is the gradient shader for the seperate xyz color ramp smoother with the icosphere than a subdivided cube when smoothed into a sphere? I tried that before the icosphere and the gradient wouldn't smoothen out.

Love your skills, but not quite there with subscribing via Patreon. Tried the Procedural Ice Planet and found that Blender has changed a bit since 2022. Tutorial no longer properly shows how to achieve the effect as laid out in the tutorial. I managed to figure out where things were in some cases, but just not ready to pay when the path is so forked.

Volumetrics in blender is a joke. The edge of a volume is supposed to be less dense because of less amount of material for the ray to go through. But in blender it creates a more solid edge than in reality.

@@RyanKingArt After all, in 3D, everything and even more become possible. I think it could be as creative and original as interesting useful for a tutorial. The dome of glass and night and day circle ( which include a sun and a moon ) with the ice edges would make a rich content to learn. Or it's too complex / too long for a tutorial ?
