I really like how shaders allow so much object customization, so you can have significantly less faces in your object and don't have to add much detail manually. The only problem is keeping all this information in mind. Though it is interesting how the node setup looked more imposing when I first saw it, but it's a bit less imposing now that I understand most of what it does. Still, there's quite a lot to learn.

@RyanKingArt
@RyanKingArt Жыл бұрын
@@ClaudioMalagrino Sorry, I get tons of comments, so I'm not able to reply to them all. The procedural material can use object coordinates, but the Texture maps will need to use UV, so they can be placed on a 2d image texture. So to do that, just UV unwrap your object before baking. I go over how to do it all in my texture baking for beginners tutorial. Also you can check out my tutorial called: How to texture bake procedural materials. Hope this helps!

this is awesome! this is an amazing texture. Btw, I was wondering how you would bake this material using Quick Baker? I tried baking it by adding in the roughness, albedo, normal, and metallic maps, but the baked result looks very different. I baked the material as you showcased it in this video, and the result was okay, but when I added an image texture (for a logo, which had its own uv map), and then combined that and this material a through a mix shader, the result looked weird. do you perhaps know how to fix that?

To make that, I just added a plane, and then added a subsurf modifier to it, so that its a circle shape. Then I just added an emission material to it. Thanks for the response Ryan, Im having problems when I'm texturing painting, I dont know if this is a common problem. I'm doing the donut tutorial, so simple mesh, I follow all of the guidelines every step so its not like a complicated mesh. When I reach the part of texture painting, my brush is very laggy, and a fast stroke on the donut will bring my cpu to 100% and stay there and then blender crashes. My laptop is quite powerful 6cores, i7, 16ram, nvidia gtx1060, simple but should do the job, Ive tried the same project in a friends gaming laptop, and recently tried it in a 5000 computer used for 3D Desgin VR Reality where I work. Super powerful computer and the program behaves the same way. Do you have any idea why this could be happening? I could even send you the project and Im sure it'll behave the same way in your computer.

Hmm, Let me make sure I understand you correctly. You made a procedural rust texture? And you want to add it to a ladder 3d model? But when you add the procedural material onto it, the material is pink? I don't know why it would be pink. Pink is Blender telling you that it doesn't have the data for some files. But a procedural material doesn't use any external files. Were you using any external image textures? If you moved the Blender file, or moved the texture, Blender will not know where it is on your computer. @@RyanKingArt I’m pretty sure it’s because I made it out of a face that I extended, I was making a hook but the angles and stuff are off, might have to remake the hook for the texture to work.

@@RyanKingArt Yes...will try again though but it always turns out brown for some reason. The first time I didn´t use a sphere but thought that shouldn´t matter. But then I did and it still turned out a brown sphere. Very strange. Maybe a graphics card issue?

@@jesperjee Hmm, possibly. It might have to do with your lighting, or the color of the metal that you used. Are there any reflections on the material?

I've seen a thousand of these "here's how to make your render look 'photo-realistic' by making it look like something you found buried in a garbage dump". Like the example you show above. But what if, like probably 99.999999999% of the people trying to make photo-realistic renders of things that DON'T look like garbage dump finds? Things that have just a few small scratches and nicks here and there that they've picked up from normal use? Or even far MORE difficult, how do you make things look photo-realistic that are supposed to look as though they're just out of the box brand new? Procedural scratches like this look FAKE. Scratches in the real world are rarely, if ever, spread over a surface randomly like this. Scratches are ALWAYS, without any exceptions at all in my experience, caused by something scratching them. Scratches on things are never - ever random. They tell the story of how they got scratched. Knowing how to create procedural scratches like this is POINTLESS without knowing how to control them. How do you control the placement, shape, apparent depth, and alignment of procedural scratches so that they DO tell the story of how the scratches occurred?

@@RyanKingArt It's not at all that I don't like that texture. It's just that I've tried things like assigning pieces of it to specific faces in a mesh, futzing for hours with UV scales positions and rotations, shaking rattles while wearing a crown of duck feathers and standing on one foot chanting incantations.... I stopped before eating flies to see if that would help. It's incredibly frustrating. Next thing I'm going to try is to use the musgrave channel of this shader to create a displacement map instead of a render. Then pull the displacement map into Gimp in order to isolate specific scratches or groups of scratches that I can shift to a different layer, that I can bring back into Blender. In Blender I'll run the displacement map into a color ramp so that most of the depth of the scratches are only effecting a painted surface shader, while the very deepest parts of the scratches expose a shiny bare metal shader. That might be something I can use to assign to specific faces in a mesh where I can UV rotate, scale, move to where they look like they belong. Maybe. Or maybe I'll need to buy a new computer to replace the one I threw through the front window. What lies in the future is always a mystery.
