실이 옷이 되는 과정은 크게 방직 - 편직 - 염색 - 가공 - (재단) - 봉제 과정을 거치는데, 이 과정을 한번에 진행하는 공장은 국내에 없습니다. (재단과 봉제는 같은 곳에서 합니다.) 각각의 공정이 모두 다른 곳에서 이뤄진다고 보면 됩니다. 영상은 편직을 하기전 원사상태에서 염색을 먼저하고, 염색된 실로 원단단계를 거치지 않고, 바로 편직기에서 패널을 뽑아내는 홀가먼트 방식이고, 스웨터나 양말 등에 사용됩니다. (티셔츠 옆을 보면 서로 다른 두개의 천을 바느질로 이어 붙인 봉제선이 보일텐데, 양말은 이음새가 없는 이유가 그냥 편직기에서 양말이 나오기 때문입니다.) 편직기에서 바로 옷이 나오는게 아닌 원단을 자르고 이어붙여 만드는 방식을 컷앤쏘라 불리고 일반적으로 여러분이 입고 있는 대부분의 옷이 이렇게 만들어집니다. 실을 편직하여 원단을 만들고 그 원단을 염색하는 걸 후염 혹은 패브릭다이, 실을 먼저 염색하는 걸 선염, 사염 혹은 얀다이라고 부릅니다. 사염은 단순히 홀가먼트방식에만 사용되지 않고, 스트라이프 원단을 짜기 위해서도 사용됩니다. 원단을 먼저 만들고 염색을 하면 단색밖에 안나오는데, 스트라이프는 2개 이상의 서로 다르게 염색된 실을 가지고 원단을 짜면 가능하거든요. 이와 별도로 면 티셔츠 한 벌을 만들기 위해서는 약 1-2톤의 물이 필요한데, 대부분 면화경작, 염색, 가공 과정에서 사용됩니다. 소비는 어떤 이의 소득과 직결되는 문제라 단순하게 말할 순 없으나, 옷 한 벌을 입으며 가끔은 환경을 생각하고, 또 가끔은 누군가의 땀과 노동을 생각해 보는 것도 좋을 것 같습니다.

One of my favorite things about people who speak English as a second language is they use words in ways native speakers like myself wouldn't think of. For instance, describing a sweater as soft and chewy. It made me laugh and I got to pause and think about why someone might choose that word. Stretchy and chewy *are* pretty similar after all. I love your videos and your captions are always the best part.

Oh get a knitting machine. They are cool and fast. You can do Fairile on them. And they are sooo fast. I'm sure you could pick up a 2nd hand one cheap. I use to use my mums when I was a child. That's how easy they are. And they sound just like these ones.

@Bel it is. Just a machine is a wizx. My mother did both. But you can create soooo much more in the way of patterns via multi colours soooo fast and easy on a machine. Plus you don't get knitters rsi as quick 😏

Many years ago, I worked in a tiny lab attached to a factory that dyed fabric, in the UK. I would dye samples of the fabrics to work out the colour recipes for dyeing the huge bolts of cloth. I moved on to other types of work when the factory closed, and this type of work died out in the UK. Watching this is bringing back memories. Thank you.

Посмотрела с интересом, т. к. сама работала на фабриках по изготовлению верхних трикотажных изделий. У нас технологический процес был немного другим. После вязания детали шли на ВТО- влажно- тепловую обработку. Затем раскрой и пошив. Очень интересная плоская кеттельная машина для присоединения воротника и планок к изделию. У нас они были круглые. Поразил высокий уровень мастерства кеттельщицы. И у нас в конце цикла готовые изделия не стирались , а также проходили вто, то есть отпаривались. И контролер проверял качество. Кстати я работала сначала вязальщицей в Благовещенске, затем технологом в вязальном цехе в Улан-Удэ и в Чите.

тоже посмотрела с интересом, удивил процесс крашения пряжи - показалось, что много ручного, даже примитивного труда. Думала, что это более механизировано. По крайней мере без пластиковых ковшиков и весов. Теперь понимаю, почему цвета в разных партиях бывают разные по оттенку.

it's best to support handmade knitters and crocheters. there's way more effort and love put into the items than these machines do. the items can also end up being a better quality, depending on where you get them. just a suggestion, though :)

@tractorrepairohio This stuff is made in Korea, an industrialized first world country that has a similar standard of living to the US, not China. This is a clothing factory like the ones that used to exist in the US, not a sweatshop. The people working here work normal hours, probably make an OK wage and to buy one of these in the US would cost much more than the the typical sweatshop made Chinese import clothing.

When I bought ready made clothing, especially those knitted I always turn it inside out and looking at the sewing part or joints, I always wondered how the knitting machine works. Many years ago I worked in a sock factory in a small town, where most of my family worked. The yarn was put on cones by the carding machines and the sent to the knitting department. Once the socks were knitted they went to the dye house then to seaming, where the toes of the socks were seamed closed. Then to boarding and paring to be labeled and to finishing to be packed and shipped out to stores. I worked in seaming, my uncle in the knitting department, my husband in the dye house, my mom in the boarding department, my aunt in the finishing department.

Thank you for spending your gold making these videos. I always loved watching the Mr. Rogers episodes when he went into factories. So neat! Now I am old enough to appreciate that it takes many, many people to make my sweater, and that we would all feel very cold without them. Possibly have hypothermia and die. I’m a knitter too, and watching this videos was most enjoyable. I’ve always wondered how yarn was coloured. I di see how the yarn went into spools on a trip to Scotland. It was amazing, watching all the machines working together. I bought 3 bags of yarn ( 10 balls ) in each bag. Loved the tour, so we went back again, & I bought 3 more bags. Then I had to go through customs. Yuck, but it was okay. If you ever go to Scotland, take a trip to one of the wool mills if you can. So much history. Did you know, many years ago, women weren’t allowed to work in these mills? Only Men & little Boys only. The Boys went under the machines to keep everything clean. The story of yarn & these mills is amazing. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦❤️

Watching the dyeing process, i couldn't help wondering what happens to all the liquid when it's done. Seen a few places where rivers have become toxic from the waste of textile factories.

@@animerlon all factory needs to use purifying facility of waste water. those dyeing factories are located near the dyeing industrial complex, and those factories can use municipal supported facilites together for better management. some dye sludge can also be re-used as reinforcing agent in building.

@@juneyoungkim2838 Thanks muchly for the info, it's nice to know, especially about the water purification. That the sludge can be used as a reinforcing agent in building is cool. This is encouraging. In other places, i've seen rivers so polluted, that not only are they dead, the adjoining lands are too & can't support plant life. Villages are basically like company towns of the past but with even less sustainable infrastructure, so they just become industrial wastelands. It's tragically sad.

My Lord!! That is a lot of work that goes into making these sweaters!! Kudos to the hard workers. Very hard work. P.S. I would love to have a button machine like that. I do not like sewing buttons. Even sewing machine sewing them on. Great video!!!! Thank you for your time in doing this.
