Before keto and intermittent fasting my A1C was 13.5, and blood sugar around 400-500, now I have kept it 150 or so, but last night I try fasting for 36hrs. Well b.S. dropped to 43?

Started keto & IF since last May 2021 and I too was very depressed about my future. It's very hard for me to lose weight even though I'm compliant. Will soon be 68. I've lost 10 lbs. and have 10 lbs. To go. My blood sugars are very good and stopped my Metformin ( I'm type2 diabetic). Next month I will do my 1st 5 day fast. I am much more optimistic now about my future. Thank you Drs. Fung, Hyman, Mason, Bredesen, Sten Ekberg and others. Also Bobby of FLAV City and the amazing Thomas DeLauer- all on KZbin. I'm am quite disgusted none of my doctors ever mentioned this avenue to health for me. It has really changed my view of traditional medicine for the worse.

I like Dr Fung but he does push and collaborate for profit in his video descriptions (his books and other things). He may not have sponsored videos, but does push for more likes and subscribers. I’m only saying this because different professionals have different ways of supporting themselves and their video work. So you shouldn’t necessarily demonize a particular one or another because they have to advertise or have a sponsored video.

Thank you Dr Fung. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes just last week. I learned about you from my facebook group and as an Asian it's so hard to remove carbs especially rice from my diet but I want to live with quality, not just to stay alive because of medications. I started fasting, works out 5x/week and got rid of all high carbs/sugar food from my diet and it made a ton of difference already! My blood sugar since following your advice went down and I feel so much better. Also, I've already lost 3 kgs!

I remember as a kid eating Wonder Bread talk about a formula for getting fat. Everyone did. I also blame the Great American Food Pyramid. I like most of use used it as a Bible. Low fat!!!! My doctor is still telling me low fat. I was religious about low fat. Used PAM sprays to fry. Never ate butter. Anyhow for all my due diligence I’m now obese. I’ve read your book and try but since I’m insulin resistant weight doesn’t come off very easy especially at my age 76. I do intermittent fasting thanks to you. I haven’t given up.

Me not so much sugar but any kind of bread products including pizza. I found one trick that works for me. I love fried eggs so of course you have to have toast for the yolk. Now I put a Idaho potato in the micro for 5 minutes then slice about 1/2 “ pour olive oil over them season with garlic salt and bake for about 10 minutes. Wala bread substitute. That potato has more nutriments than bread right.?

As your weight drops the insulin resistance will improve. Just make sure to maintain your muscles during the weight loss period, resistance training, sleep, hydrate, 3-5 meals high in protein. Carbs and fat can fall where ever it might be, as long as you have energy for the training. This will keep you from getting skinny fat, so you have a much greater chance of keeping the weight off. 😉

One thing I haven't seen mentioned is that the 70's was when more and more mothers began entering the work force. It used to be unusual for a mother (especially of younger children) to work outside the home so they had time to cook more natural, home made meals. Now they are usually expected to both earn $ and "keep house", even if they have a working spouse. And it's even harder for single parents. I don't know how they do it! The fast food drive thru and convenience food trend came to us because of those modern pressures.

Crock pots worked for me. I would put a slab of beef, veggies, potatoes and broth in the pot, turn it on low then take kids to school and go to work. It was perfect and ready when I got home. Same with chicken, pork, everything except fish but fish cooks quickly so it was easy.

Sad their contribution was generally under- appreciated. A natural birth through the canal and breast feeding are now known to found a good microbiome and furnish amazing nutrients. They were more likely to garden and can their own food. A homemaker 's work is varied. There were less of the injuries of repetitive factory and office movements. Children were outside more, as many mom's were around to supervise. Women had more connection , friendship and peers. Kids played imaginative roll- playing games and sports. Things were not perfect, but there was a greater potential for health.

Thank you for this- just started listening to Obesity Code and there are foods that are obviously not processed but at home we eat plant based, so ive been questioning how far is too far and what qualifies esp with some of the protein options we now have. This helped to start the ball rolling- thank you

I am just reading your Book ‚Obesity Code‘ while being right on my health journey for 4 months. Obviously I did some things right, and now I am trying to learn how to NOT gain all that lost weight back. I lost 25kg in 4 months through A LOT OF walking and intermittent fasting. Two meals a day with 6/16 fasting intervalls. I went plant based a few days ago. Thank you for all the inspiration, knowledge and help!

This sounds good--but I doubr you were doing 6/16--unless you were only sleeping 6 hours a night, and eating every waking minute. And there are more than 22 hours in a day.

Dr Fung is so right about nutrition and fasting. I wish I knew about eating Whole Foods and intermittent fasting in my 20s and 30s, I had so many digestive issues until recently I stated intermittent fasting and eating more Whole Foods, salads and meats. I feel like I’ve solved my digestive issues. It’s never too late.

I read Gary Taubes Good Calories, Bad Calories at age 52. Also watched the Oiling of American. Switched to the old British diet in the beginning of the book. Now 64 and doing fantastic. Size 18 to 8. No health problems and more energy than I had in my 30s. I come from a family with diabetics going back generations. Before this I starved myself fat on 1200 low fat, high fiber calories a day. If I could go back in time I would have a long talk with my 18 year old self. I could save myself years of problems. But it is never too late to change. Your health will improve and keep improving.
