I needed to hear that as I'm sitting here one week out from an ultra. I get so worked up because I want to perform well, and I know if I don't or I DNF for whatever reason that I will not handle it well!!! Knowing this about mylsef makes it even scarier. But please know that you're amazing. Your content is awesome, and i have missed your videos. I actually went on black canyons to see how you went and was sincerely hurting for you!!

Thanks for this lovely message and sharing! Have fun next week racing, you'll do great I'm sure! Remember this sport is supposed to be fun. When I get too serious about it is when the fun starts to diminish. Don't let your own judgment of yourself take away the joy of race day!!

Well, I had my first DNF-last month as I tried to BQ road marathon. I had a viral infection and weather was warm, so pulled the plug after 11 miles. Walk back to car was walk of shame. But licked my wounds and ran Cincinnati last Sunday and did okay (close to BQ and a PR). So it happens-you are much more talented runner, and likely more invested. Remember as you said at end: how much you enjoyed the process of training. A great race result will come.

Congrats on the PR and your DNF! I’m sure you can milk the DNF for all it’s worth and learn tons. BQ is right around the corner for you I’m sure!!

Thanks for sharing your so openly. New subscriber here, thanks to @Kelly_Ben who recommended your channel (I was processing my DNFs and burnt out feeling from ultras 😂).

I’m so glad it could be helpful. It’s all part of this sport and I know it sucks but in a few weeks you’ll probably look back and laugh at it all. It happens to the best in the world too! Good luck shaking it off and getting back out there!!

Listen to the physio Brodie Sharp called "Run Smarter Podcast" especially his 1st 10 which build the foundation of the philosophy. It's called the pain, weakness, spiral. Some of his pain episodes and guests he has is quite eye opening when the brain goes into protection mode.

Brilliant! I’ll give it a listen.

It sounds to me like the only failure here is that darn knee! You're an incredible person and athlete, and you've got what it takes to meet your goals... it's just your knee letting you down. Rest assured, YOU'RE not letting anyone down! In the meantime, you can just choose different goals, like the uphill races! And we'll happily be here watching your journey, rooting for you, learning from you, and being inspired by you!

Thank you for all your support and kindness! I'll be doing the Pike's Peak ascent in September as of right now. It should be a fun way to change things up a bit, learn how my body handles that sort of race, and enjoy new ways to train. I'll bring you all along of course too!

@@VIVSVIBE That's awesome, I can't wait to see it! If your travels take you to NH, we have incredible mountains here to train on, and some great races! I just volunteered for the Jigger Johnson in August, it's 50m/100m of brutality in the Whites, and is a UTMB qualifier. That might make a nice training race a month before! 😆

Sweet!! I'll keep it in mind.

maybe its the race and not the distance. Perhaps try a 100k with a race company that is more family oriented, like maybe Golden gate trail classic 100k

I will most certainly be trying a different 100k, one with a lot less downhill 😂 Lesson learned!
