i think a poking/ displacement special like killer Wail would have worked for the dapples way better. I dont know if damage wise it would synergize, but just a kit meant to close the gap is really what the dapples need. they kill fast, they can paint okay, they just cant reach the enemy. And while torpedo helps, i think that more of a keep the enemy busy while approaching special would be nice.

I feel like I'm in the minority when I say that Nouveau Dapples aren't actually completely overwritten by Dark Tetras. They have an insanely high DPS for starters, whereas the tetras can get out-damaged by other close range shooters like shot AND outranged by midrangers like VDS. Dapples only have one of those weaknesses, making it more focused on closing distance rather than forcing fights. Torpedo, imo, is infinitely better than autobomb because it forces the enemy to either take damage or divert their attention. It helps Dapples distract backliners and gives them more utility when used directly in combat than autobomb since it is a threat the enemy has to choose more actively how to neutralize rather than simply always walking away from an autobomb. I am speaking from experience that is WAY far below top level, so I am obviously not much of an authority on the topic, but I do genuinely feel like people are getting disproportionally upset over the issue when this is still a functioning kit. Being disappointed by the fact that it could have been much better is warranted, but I've seen a lot of people talking about how they want to use dapples but cannot because of the kit being absolute trash and I can't really understand that opinion. Will it see top level use? Probably not, the main weapon has relatively few upsides and the kit is replicable by another weapon kit. Is it unplayable if you wanna use the dapples? No, it will supplement the dapples nicely even if it isn't the kit we were all dreaming of. Could it have been better? Absolutely, and I will be mad with you that it didn't get something better. Is this an absolutely awful kit for the weapon? No, it... Actually other than giving it another useless sub weapon I can't think of many ways to give it a kit that would be less useful and more overshadowed. Maybe mist/vacuum? Anyways, that concludes my 8 page essay on my thoughts. I will probably be playing these dapples for a little while because as a tent player I suck at surviving reefslider.

personally i'd like to see permanent inkbrush have a kit like torpedo/crab. torpedo is a very useful poking sub that helps draw out locations from a long range, something inkbrush doesn't have on its own, and crab tank would help a lot to punish those caught by the torpedo

Most likely not mist. The only reason why from S2 to S3 they kept both beakon and torpedo was because it was good or decent for the weapon. Vanilla dapples with beacon play more supportive with placing beakons to help get back into aggressive fights. Torpedo gives dapples the longer range picks and fights aswell as combos with the short ranged main weapon. So will mist come back, probably not, since it's usless. It'll only be good with mist if it gets tri stringers kit but even then, the only reason why stringers kit is strong for it is because the weapon itself is a chip damage weapon and it's kit helps it control even more of an area and more chip damage. If it does get mist it'll need to have a special like crab tank to boost it up. Even mist wasn't too bad since it slowed down the enemies mobility so you can splat them faster.

I've said this before on twitter, but I think it's meant to be a supportive kit. You see someone fighting your teammate, you basically teleport in and ambush them from a different angle. You throw the torpedo to support team fights, you reefslide to ambush team fights - it's basically just 'I aim to ambush you repeatedly and force you to expect every matchup to be a 2v1', the weapon.

honestly it feels like people are really overexaggerating dapples kit. it might be outclassed, im not going to argue with that, but its kit isnt atrocious like people are making it out to be. It's gonna still be pretty good, even if its outclassed, and especially if they buff reefslider. Honestly somethinh else is I played tetras and clapples in 2 with a completely different playstyle too, and their kits had different ways of working with that role. Dapples was what I played when I felt more flanky and sneaky while tetras were more frontline weapons. Their kits complement these playstyles in different ways. Torpedo really can help you push in on a target youve flanked and can help disorient them both by the surprise factor and being forced to shoot either you or the torpedo, which is something that tetras cant do since you cant shoot down an autobomb. reefslider on dapples could be a way to get in, yes, but i think it has another use: getting out. say youre stuck behind enemy lines? reefslider towarss your team. now this would of course be better if it had less startup and end lag obviously, but you still get my point. tetras have a more frontliner role since their ttk isnt as high as dapples and their mobility lets them stay in the front lines. their kit is better for frontlining with autobomb since it's a longer lasting sub that cant be shot down and destroyed, and reefslider helps them get in as people have already talked about. i just think people try to play dapples like theyre frontliners which feels like its not what they're meant to be, but thats just my opinion at least. i just dont think theyre as bad as people say they are. they're at least miles better than the base kit lol

IMO the dapples are designed in such a way that they're always going to be outclassed by another pair of dualies. Sure they have the fastest TTK of any dualies, but the splat dualies and the Gloogas aren't that far behind and have almost double their range. Their rolls are super fast with barely any end lag, but the tetras and squelchers both match that bonus to mobility in having 4 rolls or effectively zero endlag respectively. The only role they're aiming for is "close range assassin," but the splats and tetras already do that fine and fill other niches (such as dying endlessly) as well. It's the same story as the Sploosh-O-matic. Sure I could pick you for your kill time, but I also have plenty of options that do that and a bunch of other things on top of it.

I think dapples nouveau can still be good and different enough from tetras to where you would want to use it. 1) make it 170 or 180p to special, we already know dapples paints a lot better than tetras and if it had lower points per special it would get a lot more in a match. 2.) Reduce a bit of the end lag with reefslider or give it better armor. Imo the quicker you can come out would benefit dapples more with its faster roll but shorter range 3) this might not be necessary since I believe that you can still get *consistent enough* kills with slider + torp combo already but if the 95 is too unreliabily make it 65 damage off reefslider, giving it true combo potential with torp roll + reefslider and thus making it arguably one of the scarier reefslider kits in the game.

@@shybandit521 Even if it does get buffed and someone can hypothetically get consistent Line Markers on people, I still don't see how it can synergize well with Inkbrush. If you mark someone from far away like you imply, how does that benefit the Inkbrush? A mark helps, sure, but other weapons are able to take better advantage of the mark than Inkbrush can. If an Inkbrush throws a Line Marker at someone, they're gonna be ready because Inkbrush will have to approach them and they can just heal off the damage. And if they retreat, that's even worse. Inkbrush wants to close the gap, not widen it. If you wanted to use Line Marker up close, that's not a big deal either because it only deals 30 damage and Inkbrush slashes already deal 30 damage each, and the kill time is not gonna be much different, if at all. Even if they make the damage, say, 40, which would mean Inkbrush only needs to use two slashes + a line marker to kill; that would bring a risk-reward option, sure, but it's not like that'd be so much better than just slashing regularly that you'd go for it every time. Inkbrush's kill time is good enough as is and also would take up less ink than the Line Marker combo and also has a more favorable margin of error. At least with Line Marker + Slosher, the combo decreases the kill time significantly assuming your opponent doesn't heal by even the tiniest bit. I'm gonna need a better argument in favor of Inkbrush + Line Marker than "you can follow up with a flank + you suck at aiming" because I just can't see what Line Marker can do for Inkbrush that other subs or specials can't do better.

Idk I just think it would be fun lol I like the line marker a lot and I think having such an extremely long ranged poking tool would be funny and ink/octobrush could follow up on it more than most other short ranged weapons since it has the speed to approach. A very violent way to point at a target and say "you're mine in 7 seconds" would just be exciting to use.

I'm not a pro player but I do see how this set could be more useful than Tetra dulies if you built around it. This could be a good kit for a back line slayer, getting behind the enemy and causing problems, using torp and dapple's speed to dive in at unsuspecting players before darting off. Reef Slider in this case wouldn't be a panic button, nor would be an engagement tool, it would be for disengaging. Get in, disrupt, reefslide out before someone gets a lock on you. I know it probably sounds silly and dumb but thinking of reefslider as a disengagement action could lead to some interesting plays, and if done well enough, a hard to kill dapple hiding behind your team.

1. It's these moments that make me advocate for customizable kits over fixed kits. If having kits restricted was meant to increase weapon diversity, then Nintendo has failed in doing so. Dapples are probably just going to be left in the dust for the second game in a row now because of it. 2. As a reminder, "weak" in online multiplayer games does not necessarily equate to "bad", but "outclassed" however does automatically mean bad. Basically, there is no reason to use Dapples Nouveau when Dark Tetra exists. 3. I get the impression that Nintendo is going straight up 'LAMOXD' on Splatoon 3. This game had the blueprints to be the perfect Splatoon game but is held back greatly by bad online, bad map design, and special spam (missiles) just to name a few. And now it appears that Nintendo is once again giving weapons sub-optimal/outclassed kits as an excuse to not make them overpowered. It's like they are repeating the same mistakes as they did in Splatoon 2.

Man this just make me worried that the next Luna kit will get Fizzy/Rain. It worked fine with Splatoon 2, but it would be really cool for it to get Tristrike or Klillerwail 5.1 even. I just don't want the Fizzy kit to return to a Splat Zones favored kit and for it to spread its wings and show it's true potential. If it does, then it will make me sad as Luna will still be a bit outclassed in it's first kit, with its second kit overall weaker.

I’m so very disappointed in this kit. I was so hoping that it’d be Torpedo/Wail. Heck I’d take Torpedo/Storm to really nail in that support role for my team. But man…now I’m just sad because Dapples are my favorite weapons and while I’m having fun playing Jr in comp with my team…it’s not my beloved toothbrush.

I hate that it's the same special as tetra dualies. Out of the 15 specials that exist in splatoon 3 only five of them are on dualies currently, and instead of adding more variety they just elected to copy-paste splatoon 2.

Reefslider killed this build. Shouldve gotten wail or kraken. The dapple is the king of mobility, reef slider just really suckz and kills ur mobility. Why theres no invincibility after the most telegraphed special in the game is beyond me. Meanwhile booyah can still trade after throw, or throw it at theyre fett nd be safe. Maybe reef slider should be thrown instead of ridden.

dapples does NOT need reefslider. i mean, sure its range is poop and it needs to get close, but its basically teleportation rolls already do that. even so, reefslider is so vulnerable at the end, its barely useful in most situations. maybe someone will make it work, but i dont know

I think torpedo reefslider would be better on ink brush
