Back in 1969 for an RAF church parade I convinced the elderly Padre, by telling him it was based on the music to an ancient hymn, to get the organist to play this as we exited the church at service end. It sounded absolutely amazing on a full church organ and with the church acoustics. To this day I don't know if I really did fool the Padre or if he fooled me into thinking I did. Probably better for my soul if it was the latter (😇). Though he did comment afterwards that it was the slowest he had ever seen the congregation leave the church as everyone hung around listening to it.

The first time, I listened this instrumental when I was in my 20's. I kept visualizing that there was something that penetrated into my soul. It is heart shaking. So, I keep on searching for the copy of this song until I found one.. and I consider this as one my best choices to play. Rolling by the years am now in the 60's still I listen this piece..whether am both sad and happy😢😂 Thanks for this upload. I will never will stop listening to this.

I'm in the same situation, I'm 60 years old and I've known the melody since my childhood from a recording my father had and it's my favorite after Santo and Johnny's "sleepwalk". By the way, this song (A whiter shade of pale) was also Lennon's And McCartney's favorite song

@@raulhernandezgarcia1922 The orchestral version had greater diffusion and acceptance in our parts, so much so that we knew the lyrics a long time later. Analyzing the verses is quite confusing because it definitely uses unconventional language. Personally, I interpret it as the chronicle of a bohemian revelry of a group of friends, probably made up of couples. Despite their advanced alcohol status, they apparently ask for more batches of beer. One of the ladies expresses her premonition about the action that her partner intends to take, who then confirms her intention of seduction. It seems that the white blanching refers to the white frost that formed on a can of cold beer in a hot, humid environment. It follows that there is talk of a particular brand of beer but no one has confirmed this. It is not a very coherent narrative, but the music is undoubtedly melodious and highly emotional.

We skipped the light fandango Turned cartwheels 'cross the floor I was feeling kinda seasick But the crowd called out for more The room was humming harder As the ceiling flew away When we called out for another drink The waiter brought a tray And so it was that later As the miller told his tale That her face, at first just ghostly Turned a whiter shade of pale She said, 'There is no reason' And the truth is plain to see But I wandered through my playing cards And would not let her be One of sixteen vestal virgins Who were leaving for the coast And although my eyes were open They might have just as well've been closed And so it was that later As the miller told his tale That her face, at first just ghostly Turned a whiter shade of pale And so it was that later.
