Still love seeing Procol online and miss them so so much. Liked this line up too. BJ Wilson was an outstanding percussionist, loved his drumming style, mostly he was the one I'd watch when seeing them live 💙💚

Feel very proud to have played with the great Mick Grabham, the guitar player featured here, in a trio called Los Amigos, back in 98/2000. Alongside Rick Wills on bass-great times!

I used to go see them all the time in the early 70’s with Robin Trower. They were always even better live than their songs sounded on the albums, much more powerful. I was thrilled years later when I finally got to see them with Matthew Fisher who had left before I had a chance to see him with the band. They had so many great songs.

I was blessed growing up with the two best bands ever, Procol Harum and Led Zeppelin and, of course, two of the greatest singers of all time, Gary Brooker and Robert Plant.

As a life long Procol Harem lover this video put me into a better time . Procol has always been my favorite band with my all time favorite vocalist and all time favorite drummer . Hearing and seeing this performance of A Salty Dog brought tears to my eyes . I really appreciate this upload . This music was pure .

Alan Cartwright, who was a bass player for Procol Harum between 1971 and 1976, died on March 4, 2021, at the age of 75. His cause of death was not revealed, but by the year 2020 he had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. RIP

They once played Fillmore East in 1969 as a 4~-piece & the band was brilliant! No Hammond B3 as Matt Fisher was out ill. It was Barrie on drums, Robin on guitar, Gary on concert grand and Dave Knights on bass. As that four, Rob & Barrie stole the show! (y)
Amazing, all other instruments tried to fill up the missing hammond....

Fantastic footage, thanks for posting. I wonder if this is that 1974 gig where the Hammond failed: I see Chris Copping moving from tambourine to organ briefly on Kansas, but still can’t hear any organ. Incredible how gruesome the audience situation looks. I can’t imagine something like this happening today!

Just checked and it’s indeed the concert where the organ broke. procolharum.com/procol_ragnarock-index.htm?fbclid=IwAR0P9S7cjYTUDg2GgftUOBG5H0se76Kmr1IaI-u_yh9tCvx2zs1lK-xdOdE

I'll say that BJ Wilson was one of the very best drummers in the UK. He was mesmerising to watch too, which I did at every gig.
"Was this normal at the time? It's a shame that people were lighting bonfires and trash was causing a lot of trouble. I was going to comment about the music, but I was surprised. I'll talk about that later." - - well festivals were in their early days; people hadn't yet learnt much about the environment, and there was a huge explosion of youth 'doing their thing'. It was all new. But very little trouble! Everyone was well-behaved. This is in Norway, btw.
