Memories do turn to black and white but such songs bring it all back.

Over the years, bands I played with used this masterpiece as a secret weapon and/or knockout punch, strategically placed as the last, or second to last, song of the night, in clubs or dances. This was manna from heaven for many attendees, giving them the perfectly timed shot for a slow dance and legitimate excuse to get their arms around the one they were with. It also delivered the subliminal message that we had to be one of the greatest bands they'd ever seen. It was a very effective tactic. 😎

Listened to this for years, born in '67, and I still have no idea what this song is about, and Im not sure I care. I like discovering lyrics and meaning gradually over the years, as it always remains fresh. The organ pulls melancholy strings in me, the lyrical melody drones on, and the punch of "And so it WAS that later..." is magical. I'll never tire of this great song and arrangement. RIP Gary🙏
