College is a blessing and a curse. I'm a science, math, and computers kind of person declared as a Physics + Computer Science double major, and I'm adept enough at this point to be totally on top of classes in those areas, straight A's, and still have plenty of free time. On the other hand, I absolutely detest writing and literary analysis. This year I've really made a big change in my life, and I really have to thank you Scott Herman for being a big part of that. For the first time in my life I've been willingly going to bed early and waking up early in the morning, as early as 5 AM, to go work out in the morning - and it feels amazing. However, just one class, my mandatory writing lecture (and specifically the its large essay assignments), is really tearing me up. I've been constantly procrastinating, and it's causing some serious anxiety that I haven't struggled with since my first few years of High School - and it's seriously impeding my progress with my workouts, my schedule, and even hurting the grades of my other classes because my sleep schedule gets so lopsided. It's a serious problem for me, and I'd really love nothing more than to get everything back in order. This year I wanted to really change myself, and I've started well but my progress is really halting. I've been able to lead a healthier lifestyle, but not explore new things and meet new people the way I wanted. Procrastination is awful, and it's actually tearing up my life in a way, and yet I can't seem to beat it. Pure willpower is hard for me, but I really appreciate the video, and have to thank you again. I probably won't be able to keep at it for a long time, but at least tonight I'm not procrastinating.

We all hit points like this Zren , but yes the only solution is to sit and visualize the solution and the solution is you need to basically take an entire day where you do NOTHING but catch-up on your work. Start early, get on a good roll, and just crush it.. then when you are done, reward yourself. Just don't forget to eat an hydrate while putting the work in. You can do it man! I believe in you!!!

We need more of this! Because, the idea of fitness is not just building muscle and lifting weight, it is about organizing your life and becoming a better person. I have been following you for years now Scott and I'm a big fan of your work and just wanted to say thank you. Respect from Germany

This is why you're the best fitness teacher on the Internet. You don't just say "here's how you do a workout" you are constantly talking to the "nation" and you are always trying to find ways for people to reach their goals even if it's the smallest detail and doesn't relate to the gym like this video. Everything you posts helps motivate me and many others and I'm so thankful for what you do! Keep it up!!

Some valid points there Scott. I'm one who always seems to procrastinate as well. One thing I try to remind myself is this.. When you procrastinate, it always feels like your behind and you end up playing catch up and that of it self can drain a lot of energy. Also causes you to go to bed late and not get enough sleep to get maximum gains.

The constant stress of "catch-up" can destroy you John Prak , right on!

Awesome video Scott, I really enjoy these chats. I love your workout videos too, but they're everywhere (plus, there are so many great fitness trainers on KZbin with great workout videos), but I feel like videos like this really set you apart from others. Candid, personal, viewer-friendly, and very helpful. I personally would love for you to talk more about nutrition. Especially food timing (how long before workouts, before cardio, before doing other sports, e.g. basketball,etc.). I'm on the cutting phase at the moment (I know you're not a fan of bulking-cutting cycle, but still), videos on that would help me a lot. Anyway, keep up the great work! Now that I'm done with this comment, gotta follow your advice - put some nice music at my house and tidy my room to stop procrastinating!

Awesome video, only recently subbed to you. I am an organizer by birth and even though I only just started working out, organizing eveything in my life to a extreme point has been the story of my 19 years on earth. I would really suggest if you find the concept of the amount of thoughts in your brain and why you should give room to your brain by organizing, to keep a journal. Try using some system like a bullet journal with a braindump every few days, that way the thought you wrote on paper aren't occupying your head anymore. Saved me from a lot of stress and with my meditation I do from about 5 to 10 minutes every day I feel a lot more serene.

Although I totally agree from my heart, my mind knows such thoughts and behavior to prep, wanting to get rid of unknown variables, loving to be surrounded by order is quite compulsive and that is only good up to a certain degree. If you overdo that it also can hinder your progress in life.

Watching Ancient Aliens when cleaning lol. I saw the same eps. In terms of the food prep I tried that before and it really was great, but sometimes would take up too much time. Now I either prep and eat good meals and if I don't I man up and just eat everything raw (not meats etc). So if no broccoli is cooked that doesn't mean I won't eat it, that means I force myself to eat it raw. Sucks, but no excuses. Also great video. Always good to stop and really plan out what is going on in your life. Sometimes we push so hard that you end up screwing up other areas in your life. Like the saying goes "you are only as strong as your weakest link". Hard to deadlift hundreds of pounds when you are thinking about how you have to vacuum still or do homework etc. The little things screw up your focus on the bigger things.

Everything you had to say was spot on with whats going on with me right now. Not that I procrastinate its just i have too much to do. Im 17 in a month and a junior in highschool. Im taking 7 honors classes so im out from 6am til 3pm. Plus the usual 3 to 4 hours of homework. A major problem i have is acne which ive suffered with for a good 5 years but over the last two ive learned what foods and drinks to stay away from and i have it under control. Thing is i cant eat dairy or processed foods which i stick to 100% plus a salad a day. I also have a girlfriend and i play tennis. Im aiming for a d1 college though a d2 would be preferable. I have so much going on most nights by the time im finished its probably 10-11 pm and i need to go to bed. Because of my food situation over the last year ive lost a significant amount of weight and im skinny to begin with. Ive gone from 6 ft 145 pounds to 6 ft 132 pounds. I want to work out and gain weight but i cant seem to eat enough cause its all such healthy non caloric dense food and im just too tired to go the gym. Sorry this was long but any advice?
@ScottHermanFitness10 жыл бұрын
Sounds like you have a loaded schedule for sure my friend. You NEED to make sure you are eating at least 200 grams of protein a day. I don't even care if most of it comes from shakes. I would prefer food like chicken, or steak, fish, etc... but if it is a choice between not eating or drinking a shake.. drink the shake. You are at a point in your life where your body NEEEEDs food to grow, you don't want to stunt your growth from not eating enough and being too active (school included) I am releasing a 5 workout series starting tomorrow. All 5 workouts you can do at home and they are a program for one week. They take 10 - 15 minutes to complete and you only need a light pair of dumbbells. This program may be just what you need until your schedule is under control. Look out for "THE EXPENDABLES 3"- Lower Body Breakdown! Coming tomorrow! You should join the community an I in the FORUMS on my site. We can definitely help answer more of your questions there and they are free to use! #HTH #SHFAthlete www.ScottHermanFitness.com/forums.php

Hey Scott. This video is a tremendous help. Im going to start doing some of the things you mentioned in this video. (Cleaning, prep, etc). Also, i have 2 questions for you. 1.) How much do genetics play a role in how much muscle i can i build? And secondly, my chest workouts lack tremendously because i really don't have a lot of equipment. I have a pec fly, and chest press machine, which both make me feel tremendous pain in my delts, some dumbbells, but no bench. Sorry for the book!
@ScottHermanFitness10 жыл бұрын
Hey joe, glad this video is helping you get on track! A for your questions. 1) They play a role in the size and shape of your muscle on your body, but you can always improve. However you will hit a plateau for your frame eventually. Then it becomes a game of adding maybe 2 - 4 pounds of muscle a year. It will all come down to diet and meal plan. 2) Sounds like you are not pulling your shoulders back when you bench. You need to retract your shoulders on most exercises or else it will bring your delts into the exercise and cause pain You should join the community an I in the FORUMS on my site. anytime you want to chat about super heroes is cool with me. Also calisthenics - getting into that in a big way so if you have tips for beginners or something that would be cool

Hey Scott, I just recently went from training approximately 80% weights and 20% calisthenics to about all calisthenics unless I am doing legs. My goals have changed because I am preparing for the police academy where all they do is calisthenic endurance training. Right now I want to get a lot bigger and stronger so I am not focusing on endurance yet. Anyways, should I be concerned about my body having a negative reaction to doing almost all calisthenic training after being used to weight training?
@ScottHermanFitness10 жыл бұрын
If anything you will get stronger overall focusing on calisthenics especially if you get into advanced movements like handstands and levers. Just make sure you don't slack too much on cardio, you will have to run to pass your test, that I am sure. You should join the community an I in the FORUMS on my site. Thanks Scott! I made an account as a gold member awhile back, but I will for sure use the forums also. I play soccer but when the season ends I will for sure need to run more. I am 17 and I already have the physical qualifications to enter the academy, I just want to become a master at calisthenics (and running) to make the six months at the academy a lot easier physically when I'm 21 or 22.

Hi scott, im doing a dissertation for my final year of university about social media and the fitness industry and the impact it has allowing you to interact with the public and have this mountain of information at your fingertips... what are some of the top things you feel social media allows you to achieve that without it, would not be possible?
@ScottHermanFitness10 жыл бұрын
too funny.. I am flying to LA Wednesday to talk about this exact subject with Tony Horton and Cassie Ho :) Here is a quick list. 1. Accountability- I feel more accountable than ever to make sure I am providing quality information that is researched and trusty worthy. If you make one mistake the few people who know the right answer will rip you a new one. So on top of making sure you are keeping your community safe, if you "half-ass" your research and are teaching the wrong things, the comment section will destroy you. 2. Community / Family- This only applies to the people who actually respond and engage with their fans. I have always made it my number one goal to help people and be very active responding in the comment sections of KZbin, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and even MySpace back in the day haha. This has allowed me to build a solid relationship with my community and really find out what they are looking for in videos/workouts/information. 3. Exposure- To keep this short and simple, Social Media gave me a voice that grew by the quality of my content. The same exposure would cost hundreds of thousands of dollars with traditional advertising to reach the same amount of people.

I have been lazy recently due to exams but once that is done, I will be attempting the 21 day 4am challenge. Not because its a challenge but I am a easy riser so trying to focus on fitness before work seems like the best way as I make excuses after 5pm.

What about when your spouse or family doesn't follow your living standards. I am always putting the decor and stuff that I bought back to its right ful spot and it's always like 2 steps backwards .. I am still trying tho! Lol

Ancient Aliens is the shit bro ( love that crazy program ) . Your on point with this video and it's put a couple off things in perspective. I'm feeling burnt out after 1 day at work and was feeling weak at the gym, why? Because everything is all over the place at the minute, out off my routine. Cheers Bra :D
@ScottHermanFitness10 жыл бұрын
yeah man, but Erica doesn't believe in Aliens haha.. so I always chat here ear off when I watch these programs. They had one on how the Devil was actually a "good guy" and is seen in many religions. He was the one who gave us knowledge.. they even linked him to Prometheus who was the Greek God who was punished for giving us fire.. very cool stuff! Now go clean your workplace! lol #HTH
