I’ve used 4LOW, ROCK, and Hill Descent Control going down steep, rocky, slippery, narrow ruts. Often with steep drop offs on one side. Human error can be minimized with this setup. You set your speed and let the genius of engineering do the hard work! Yes it’s a cheat but why sweat it when you have sensors and microprocessors working for you! Good video as always!

I use snow mod frequently driving when the roads are covered in snow. Starts out in 2nd gear to minimize slippage. It holds the gears to a higher rpm. It makes the awd feel more like traditional 4wd, balanced power distribution front and rear

@charbel tabet If you wanna have fun yes, if you are stuck and need full trottle and those wheels turning without blocking than again yes. Turning off traction control puts the power to the wheels even if there is snow or ice on road. But be careful doing this cause unexpirienced drivers could have issues controling car in these conditions without traction control.

First, I have a WK2 Overland, with the Quadra-drive, air suspension, etc. I understand what you prefer about using 4WD Low. But I absolutely disagree about this setting putting “too much strain” on the system. It is designed to BE used. I’ve run 4WD Low all day, day after day, in Moab, for literally YEARS and have never had an issue related to using 4 Low. My 2 cents.

Ok snow mode........ how deep we talkin? Ice to 6 inches? 1 to 2 feet? Powder or Heavy Wet? March 14th dropped 2 feet of heavy wet snow in Aurora Colorado. Up to 6 inches or so of powder and Ice, Snow mode is good, but 2 feet of heavy wet? Dude, Mud and in Off-Road2. And I run 32s, 275/65R18 Duratracs, your Fun may very with the Falkens. What might be cool (although a bit of memory and a tad more time in the edit) would be to have a little graphic or text in the lower corner that showed what mode you were in during certain climbs/obstacles so the viewer can see what you're doing when. *Lives 12 hours north of Canadian/US border*. I use snow mode when highway driving on ice, I find auto is brutal for the slippage and it will pull you to the side HARD sometimes (2012 overland; 210,000kms). I have issues once in a blue moon with air suspension if it is really cold (-40 to -55C) where it actually disables the 4WD and pops a service light. Usually it goes away once it warms up a bit (again, maybe 1-4 times a year but never a major issue). Only issue I really have is snapping exhaust manifold bolts (5.7L). Good video though, I agreed on a lot of it and learned about sand mode.

@jaradderosa32523 жыл бұрын
My advice is to look at the EVIC system when changing terrain modes. It allows you to see what the 4x4 system is currently doing. The biggest one is when you select any mode other than auto you will see a padlock icon come on over the drivetrain showing the center and or rear diff locks. The difference between the sand and mud are traction control and suspension height changes. I think mud takes you up to OR1 when selected. I know that Rock locks both diffs and raises you to OR2. You can override the height and lower back to OR1 manually.
@tge963 жыл бұрын
Is the EVIC system that you're referring to, "offroad pages"? or?
@rossmischnick2 жыл бұрын
I think the trailhawk only has a rear E-LSD. No locking diffs front or rear.

4Low is usually not needed until you get to something steep. You can lean pretty quickly how steep the road needs to be to require 4Low and you can shift when you get to those sections. You can be in trouble if you end up on something steep where you need 4Low and you haven't shifted yet. Worst case you have to back down a little bit and then engage 4Low. I've done a lot of moderate trails where I did it all in 2High.
@stefanoc42844 ай бұрын
As far as I know, during a off-road trial it's always better to use the 4 low because the vibrations of the road are filtered by the reductor and this protects the gear box.
@topcatracing9 ай бұрын
Thanks for the informative video. I've mainly driven on sand on moderately deep dessert sandy trails and here I find 4H/Sand+Mud setting on standard ride height best. I only go to 4L/Sand when in deep sand driving onto or on sandy beaches but drop height to Offroad1 unless hit very deep ruts. I find my 2012 GC Overland Diesel handles these situations extremely well. One observation when working on the front end when jacked up is that running Offroad2 for prolonged periods will put the front CV's at fairly extreme angles, especially on full lock and would put a lot of strain and wear on the driveshafts. One comment on the reliability of the air suspension. My GC has done 250,000k's of mainly highway use and recently burst a rear airbag while parked in standard ride height on a beach. Went off with a bang and rendered the car barely drivable! Luckily was only 2km's from where I was staying on holiday in Shark Bay (850kms from the nearest city, Perth!) and had a pair of new airbags shipped from Melbourne to Perth and trucked up to my motel within 2 days, a 4,000 km trip. In the process of rupturing, it broke the plastic airline connector on the bag, but luckily I knew from previous encounters on the front air suspension, that these are a weak point and had a pair of spares on me (ex E-bay). The good news was it only took me an hour or so to replace both airbags and I was mobile again - for maybe another 250K? Oh, I have already replaced the front air suspension and compressor (with cast alloy piston, not plastic as in the factory ones) so 90% of the system is now new. So my advice for people with older vehicles fitted with quadralift is, don't wait for something to go wrong. It's cheaper and easier to replace all these parts once your vehicle hits 10 years/200,000kms, whichever is first and you'll likely get another 10 years of reliable service out of it.

Funny you mention this. I do silver lake in Michigan all the time. The problem is the v6 doesn’t have enough torque and the R gear ratio is slightly higher than even 2nd forward gear! So yes, I’ve sadly had to switch to the 4 low when you get all this resistance in sand and need to reverse.
@keithsnyder79033 жыл бұрын
The noise in off road 2 mode is normal. In off road 2 mode the air bags are full and the noise they are hearing is the suspension fully extending quickly because of the air bags. The system just hasn’t had time to adjust itself yet.

You can ditch the whole Quadralift system for about $1500, and still have the limited slip differential, you can also add a lift kit to the Quadralift, up to 2" and still have the air suspension

Informative as usual! Another yet question for you: do you ever use and when the Sport mode and when do you turn the Eco mode off? I find that in Greece/Italy, in the tortuous mountain roads, I use the Sport mode for the fun of it, but even that very, very rarely. As for the Eco mode, I have yet to turn it off; with gas prices over there approaching US$ 7-8.00/gallon (I have converted from Euros and liters here), I see no reason to do that. What is your experience and usage here? BTW, if you use them how does this affect the use of the off-roading systems; if at all? Thanks!

Nice info tnx. On the reliability of the air suspension, it is very reliable. The issue is the air compressor. The pipe from the compressor that feeds the system, makes a very tight bend in the wheel arch. The compressor works too hard to get air past this and then fails. When you buy your jeep, modify this to a more straight setup. About $40 bucks, and myself and everyone I know, has never lost a compressor.

Brad, you talked about getting the warranty to servicing the air bags if they ever go out... but wouldn’t they void your warranty by the look for your rig, not to mention the battle scars from a few trips?
@gdwinco3 жыл бұрын
Everyone calls it an "Extended Warranty" but it is an "Extended Service Contract". Mileage may vary on how a dealer decides to allow coverage if you need it. If the plan is a "Mopar plan", my guess is the dealer service department gets paid for their costs so they will honor it. The clause "THE PLAN WILL NOT COVER, OR APPLY TO LOSS OR EXPENSE RESULTING FROM:", ... "Repairs do to any alterations or modifications to the Vehicle not approved or recommended by the manufacturer, including but not limited to: ... c)oversized/undersized tires, ..." hits many GC's. There are a number of other restrictions giving them the "option" to not cover the repair if there are any vehicle modifications. The QL, engine failure and Electronics are most likely to cost the most. If you have a QL, or buy used with miles > 50K or plan to run your vehicle over 100K miles, the ~$2600 insurance policy is worth considering. They do "advertise" the policy as "Cancelable" however I tried and 3 months after submitting my paperwork they had not even entered my request into the system to start the process (?another 120 days). My first Overland ran ~60K miles, no QL issues. This one has ~33K, no issues.
