ive akways wanted to have a WJ with QD and just got one a few weeks ago. Having a JK with eaton truetrac in front and rear, i was really curious to see if they were similar. WIth the exception of the JK having more axle travel, and the truetracs locking up almost imperceptably right when you need them versus the Variloks which are a little more abrupt to kick in and require some throttle massaging when a tire is in the air, they perform very similary in the same conditions. the QD allowed me to walk up a sandy mogul hill lifting alternating wheels, and once the QD engaged, it made the highway tires feel like all terrains the way i just calmly cruised right up and through all the adversity. I have never owned a vehicle with real, manual lockers, but its hard to imagine where they could do a better job low traction conditions, other than just knowing that you're locked from the get-go. and in places like moab, I think my finger would get tired pushing the lock/unlock buttons versus just letting the LSD do its thing.

You were 100% over payload and tow capacity especially with water on board. Very unsafe, luckily you didn’t have any problems, but you were putting yourself in an unsafe situation.

Just a theory, if it is a 21 Gladiator, the first owner who only had it for 6 months-ish may have lost his/her job during COVID, and had to let it go. Happened to a lot of people.

Just picked up a 2018 WK2 Overland and am soaking up your knowledge. Unfortunately ours came equipped with the QC2 system not Quadra drive. It does have air suspension. Also, it came with 20 inchers. Eventually I’ll be picking up some 18 inch wheels and putting all-terrains on, but for now Im going to roll with the 20s because they’ve got a new set of decent all-seasons on (Cooper Endeavor Plus) and I can’t throw away free tire :). That being said, what do you think the max I could get away with airing them down without rolling on my 20” wheels? I can’t find the ply count anywhere, but based on the fact that they are XL rated for towing etc I suspect they are 4 ply or better. Based on your video I’d guesstimate something like 28psi for rock or maybe 25psi for sand.

We’ve got a 2015 Jeep overland with 160,000 miles. Last 15,000 to 20,000 miles started noticing that it doesn’t inflate or deflate when we start up or shut down … and last 10,000 miles, my F-250 with after market air ride, rides better. Been to dealer twice in las5 2 year mechanics say nothings wrong. Called the 2nd mechanic out on this, they had another mechanic check it, he reports a slow leak and compressor showing signs of eventually in next 15,000 miles until it will need to be replaced. Fell out of chair on the price … and now I’m not only shocked by the price but also the reliability of the mechanic who would do the repair. Detroit Michigan. Great system until last year.

Another thing that just looked like a dead giveaway to me that it hadn't been offroaded was the nitrogen green tire cap. Nobody who off roads runs nitrogen in their tires cuz if they air down they can't air back up on the trail with nitrogen. Not a guarantee that they didn't off road but it would lead me for sure that direction. I had my gf when she was looking at the dealership for the one we bought climb under and take pictures of the scrape free skid plates .that was all I needed to see lol

I would check above the driveshafts to look for grease that may have flung off after lubrication - a sign of proper maintenance beyond minimal oil changes.

So Brad…how many miles (or Klics) does she have on her? What price? Around $40? US or Canadian? Great overview of what to look for, and how to assess what you find. Also look for pinstripes. Lacking them is another mall crawler tipoff. Btw, I’d rather see an un-detailed engine bay, to better see if it has any leaks. Good video. Thanks👍🏼

Hey Brad, great overview on what to look for to get a non-offroaded Jeep👍 Can confirm that the lights and steps are at least $4200 after the (probably) dealer installed bumper/winch. Also was curious to know if Benjamin was able to get those steps working again.. They are fantastic when they're functional, but can be finicky at times. With the way they were partially deployed, I would say he should probably pull the fuse to reset them.. They also may just not have power to them. I've had those things since day one, and have lots of experience with their issues if he needs any assistance troubleshooting 😂. Again great vid and we'll be seeing you hopefully later next year!

Good summary of what to look for. I bought my '22 JL Rubicon sight-unseen from a dealer in North Dakota, but it was evaluated by an independent shop for pretty much everything you mentioned. One more thing I would say is mandatory is to inspect the hinges and bottoms of doors to see what (if any) corrosion is present, and be prepared to get it all fixed with about 6-8 months left in the seven year corrosion warranty. I'd add in an aftermarket switch panel rather than drilling holes in the dash, and of course a Tazer :)

I'm aware of three different throttle controllers for the Jeep JK: *Pedal Commander* from _Vitalen Auto Performance,_ *Throttle Booster* from _Amp'D 2.0_ and the *PedalMonster* from _Banks Power._ All three cost about US$300. My wife and I chose the Banks PedalMonster because it does everything the others do but it is safer and more advanced. If either the Pedal Commander or Throttle Booster fail, you lose all throttle control of your Jeep. For example, if you are zooming down the freeway at 70 mph and your Pedal Commander or Throttle Booster fails, your Jeep will coast to a stop. Needless to say, this could be a disaster on a crowded freeway in bumper-to-bumper traffic. To retore the operation of your pedal, you would need to remove the device and connect your pedal directly to your Jeep's wiring harness (like stock). Plus, the Pedal Commander and Throttle Booster are both ignorant of all data except the pedal position. Neither one has any information about your speed or the state of your engine. On the other hand, the PedalMonster connects to both your OBD-II port and your pedal. It draws its power from the OBD-II port (which has higher voltage and current than the pedal port) and it has access to all the real-time data of your Jeep. This enables the PedalMonster to tailor the response of your throttle differently at low speed than it does at highway speed. And Banks built a variety of safety features into its throttle controller. First, if their device malfunctions or fails, bypass relays close (their default state), bypassing its circuitry and immediately restoring your pedal to stock operation. So you will never lose pedal control. Second, Banks chose to automatically disable throttle modification when you place your transmission into reverse. Their reasoning is that your throttle should respond in a stock fashion in reverse in order to avoid unexpected accidents. Personally, I do not like Bank's reverse feature because my desire is for consistency so that, once I get used to a particular throttle tuning (i.e. develop muscle memory), it will be predictable. But I think Bank's other features are so much better as to outweigh their reverse mode. My situation may be unique in that my primary reason for using a throttle controller is to restore *manual transmission* shifting to the quality (or better) of a TJ or earlier Jeep (my wife and I have owned a 1978 CJ-5, 1993 YJ Sahara and 1997 TJ Sahara). Most of the reviews that I've read about Jeep throttle controllers seem to have been written by folks using an automatic transmission. My wife and I drove our TJ Sahara with its manual 5-speed for 27 years until we purchased a used 2010 JK Rubicon this year. Our Rubi has a 6-speed manual. We immediately had trouble shifting because the throttle lagged so much and was unpredictable. It was horrible when starting from a stop. We kept stalling the engine when we attempted to feather out the clutch the same as we did on our TJ. It was too quick for the slow JK throttle. Once we learned what was happening and the reason why, it made us angry. Evidently Chrysler, when they introduced the electronic throttle to the JK, intentionally dampened its response as a cheap way to satisfy the Federal EPA fuel economy requirements. Fortunately, an electronic throttle system can be easily modified (as evidenced by devices like the PedalMonster, Pedal Commander and Throttle Booster). My advice to readers is: Be aware that Pedal Commander is not the only throttle controller on the market and, in my opinion, it is NOT the best.
