-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
On today's edition of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR, we began the day with ten young bowlers and winnowed the field down to eight in a two-game qualifier. Those eight players were paired up -- four scratch bowlers and four handicap bowlers -- into four doubles teams, each one comprised of a scratch player and a handicap player, for a Best Ball Doubles competition.
In Best Ball, both partners receive an opportunity to strike in the frame (unless the first one strikes). If neither one strikes, they choose which spare to shoot, and the one who left it sits down as his partner shoots the spare.
We've done Best Ball on PRODIGY before, but never with a combination of scratch and handicap players.
As always, your comments are welcome. We just ask that you keep your remarks positive. If all you have to add to the conversation is to insult or demean our players, the show or the show's producer, your comment will be deleted. But if you have a criticism and express it in a way that's helpful, not hurtful, such comments are always greeted with open arms. Remember, the mission of PRODIGY BOWLERS TOUR is to "Celebrate Junior Bowling and Elevate Junior Bowlers." Keep your comments in that spirit and everything will be fine.

Great episode, as usual! I like seeing new faces. I was very impressed with Christopher and the amount hook he got with his ball. It seemed to be a control shot. I usually end up rooting for the home team, and like to see the Bowlero Roswell kids win. This is *NOT* a spoiler. It's a statement of fact, and nothing should be inferred from its content.

I’ve said this once and I’ll say it again, Hunter is just too good to be in the littles league! He has some real skill and should probably be bumped up to the scratch league! Love the vids randy!

Huey - Hunter has requested that he move up to our Roswell Varsity league this Fall. He’d be about a year ahead of schedule in doing so, but it would not be unprecedented. Christian did the same thing.

I love this format. The first time I ever saw it was on a "CBS Sports Spectacular" broadcast back in the mid 1960s where the team of Dick Weber and Bob Strampe bowled against the team of Glenn ("Mr. 900") Allison and Carmen Salvino The voices you hear on the broadcast are the legendary baseball announcer Pee Wee Reese and bowling legend Billy Welu. kzbin.info/www/bejne/h5mkgKWAabBslZI Then, as I mentioned in the opening of today's show, this same Best Ball Doubles format was used on a 1960s/'70s TV series called "Celebrity Bowling," which was hosted by Jed Allen. Mr. Allen just recently passed away, so RIP, Jed Allen. He was one of very few Hollywood figures who was enough of a bowling enthusiast to put bowling front and center in the entertainment world. Here's one episode of Celebrity Bowling. There are many more on KZbin. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWamn4iJq9qibtk

Fantastic production again as usual. I've never seen this best ball format before but it's highly entertaining. Lots of intricacies involved with it and it's interesting to see the strategies the kids develop to proceed with the best course of action. Hopefully there's more of these in the future.

I'm sure you've mentioned it to him, but Christian would probably do well to get the ball closer to his ankle at release, like Tristin
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 5 жыл бұрын
I've included it in a Coach's Clicker on this show before. And I've talked to him about it about a hundred times. We were at the bowl again today, and not only did I mention it, but the guy in the pro shop, who is a highly skilled player himself, mentioned it, too. He also echoed something else that I've been preaching to Christian for years about his hoisting the ball to the top of the swing (rather than just letting his arm swing from the shoulder socket, not "lifting it" to the top of the swing) and just letting it drop from the top. I keep hoping that if Christian hears this stuff from enough people he trusts, he might actually believe that the fat, old guy actually knows what he's talking about. ............. Nahhh....that ain't gonna happen.

@@ProdigyBowlersTour true, and just saying, I meant Tristin could work on that too, not that Christian should strive to do what Tristin does, in case there was any confusion

Randy, did I hear rightly in the broadcast that you're going to host a tournament with scholarship prize money? If so, some fans might like to contribute to the prize fund. Is there a way to do so?
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 5 жыл бұрын
There is not. The money comes from the two leagues' prize funds. We use part of it to fund awards (trophies, plaques for team achievements and individual achievements like high game, high series, high average, etc.) and the rest goes too the scholarship money paid out in the season-ending tournament. (A little bit goes to the pizza party at the end, too.)

Would you have enough "littles" to feature in your future video?
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 5 жыл бұрын
irishpogi - Well, we’ll see. If we set out to do a Littles Only event, I hope we attract a few. The thinking behind this one goes something like this: It began as a way to accommodate the wishes of a mother in San Francisco who wanted to bring her 7-year-old son to Atlanta to bowl PRODIGY. She didn't realize at the time that our season would be over by the time her planned travel date came. But it got me to thinking, she wanted to bring him in July 20th, which is the final weekend of Junior Gold. I figured most junior bowlers U12 and older would be in Detroit (or would hope they're still in Detroit) for JG. But that the little kids too young to be competitive in Junior Gold and their parents might find it a perfect weekend to come bowl PRODIGY, since all the older ones would be gone. Will it work? Who knows. But I'm putting the word out there, and I guess we'll see. I've wanted to do a Littles Only PRODIGY episode for two years and it just hasn't happened. But I've never thrown the promotional weight behind it that I could. So I guess we'll find out.

Like these videos! But I will say...to Jesse...damn, kid...if you have to be somewhere else So bad, then DON'T BOWL! You left an excited kid hanging! Leave Jesse OUT of future events! At lease the TV events. Oh, and I never realized I had "purist" in me so much as I did in this video. I am further convinced that bowling with 2 hands should be either a different league or class of roller, OR, stick to a rule where you MUST have one finger and a THUMB in a ball to be regulation!!!! Not to say it shouldn't be able to be done, but it should NOT be included with traditional bowling!!!! All of the sudden it's th cool thing to do. Yeah, I know...we want to get more people AND especially kids involved and interested in bowling. But...
@ProdigyBowlersTour
@ProdigyBowlersTour 5 жыл бұрын
Don't be so gruff. These are KIDS for crying out loud. Sometimes it's not them who have to be somewhere. Sometimes it's their parents. Just chill, dude. And leave the anti-two-handed stuff at the door. You won't find a very receptive audience with me. It's the wave of the future. You sound like the old fogeys who were complaining that Mark Roth was doing something illegal with the ball back when he first burst on the scene with his powerful delivery. The game evolves, just like all sports do. Either accept that evolution or be relegated to the dust bin of history. I may be too old and fat to bowl two-handed. But if I wasn't, it's the way I would want to bowl today. And you better face up to the fact that Belmonte has done more to make bowling cool again than any five Roy Buckleys ever did. (No offense Sphinx.) The simple truth is, after a long period of time when very few kids were getting interested in our sport, the two-handed style has made legions of young people want to bowl again. I'm all for it. Those who aren't just declare themselves to be relics of the past. Ain't nobody hearing it. Including me.
