WOW. WOW. WOW. Amazing. During the interview, I thought "oh, what a lovely guy, this is great!" And then it was "that's a fascinating conversation and a rare look into the world of professional sampling, this can't get any better than that..." And then there was the studio... It's ridiculous how awesome this place is. I am impressed and inspired for a year, and that came from the most humble guy... Really, thanks Scott and Warren. This is really special.

Amazing gospel coming from two amazingly gifted producers of every genre imaginable! Loved this; the progressive interaction between the two guys coming from two different intertwined worlds, feeding off of each other. Brilliant! One thing I would loved to have seen is Scott, with his keyboard virtuosity, play on the B3 with the Leslie.. Would have been the icing on the cake! Maybe in an addition or another installment. Great work Warren! Thank you both for the inspiration! Steve

hey warren loving this interview .. Back in my heyday's single & a Swimming teacher I had a gr8 relationship with the owner of the biggest music shop in Edinburgh . He brought me out the precursor to the Dx7 to try out for a week see what I thought & on my advice said it needs to have presets & a year later I bought the first Dx7 in scotland .. I had studios calling me offering studio time in exchange for a loan of it .. such memories .. but it's 4am again & you may not see this .. but yes I am learning so much .. big decision tho .. I am going mix & match .. I don't like being stuck if I can't get online so its still a steep curve learning but like scott says learn something new everyday .. cheers

Awesome show!...I live in PA and a big regret was not getting to tour the Ensoniq Factory before it closed....My first keyboard was a brand new Ensoniq VFX when I was in high school....I had a choice between that and the Korg M1...I must have listened to the demo's on both 100 times before deciding the Ensoniq had better sounds...Anyway there was cartridges that had the demo's for the VFX and the store owner let me keep one when I bought the keyboard....I don't remember the names exactly but it was something like Baroque, Cat's Meow, Bleached....I always wondered who wrote those demo's because the programming was phenomenal....Was it Scott who wrote them I wonder?....Thanks again for a great show!

Warren you always do great interviews, and I don’t wanna be that guy, but I have to say one thing that stands out to me, that really shocked me throughout all of this, is that neither of you guys realized that you could use Digidesign 192’s with the current version of ProTools. I’m on HD Native on Protools Ultimate 2018 still using two 192 I/O’s! When the guy you’re interviewing says the reason he has not upgraded his ad/da converters was due to cost constraints, I’m like, really? Considering what he/you have invested in gear, and you are questioning 4- 6 grand on converter’s?
@ScottFrankfurtStudio5 жыл бұрын
Hi Barry, Sorry I didn't see this until now; So I started with Pro Deck and Pro Edit - before "Sound Tools"... and had been an early adopter to every OS shift, hardware shift, and software upgrade and it seemed like endless amounts of money every few years to modulate with the times. Before Digidesign/Avid opened up their policy for third party interfacing, Blue interfaces were not supported during one of the transitions (to HDX cards I believe) - even emails were sent warning users in advance of the changeover - crazy trade ins etc. as I recall. Anyway, at the time - wanting to roll with the times, I got quotes for swapping out my I/O system and it was in the 20k+ range for 4 new 192's which my interfacing requires. Nowadays, it's just a license - and with the right adapter cable it's a no brainer - but back then it was a big deal! :) Hope that helps. :)

Hey Warren :) I'm right now at around 27min of the video where you talk about mixes that translate very well ... that is a problem i have ALWAYS ... i often think that the thing that has to translate on all speakers well is pink noise so i always try a slight eq match with pink noise in ozone 6 but ... yeah ... i'm always suprised ... today i listen to mix that sounded good on all my speakers (genelec 8050+7070, avatont mixcubes, 2 hifi speakers), my fav. headphones and in my car and it sounded horrible on the speakers of a friend today ... hmmm my problem is always subbass and the region between 150 and 350 hz ... if it lacks too much the mix looses warmth and if the subbass lacks volume it hasn't the sound i like (like gojiras bassdrum) ... do you have a tipp how i find a middleway ? ... oh btw. i have a recording that translates everywhere great :) it is amazing how well it sound on all devices :) check Christian Alsing - The Last Robot :)

Hi David, in my case (PLEASE research your own situation and evaluate the risks carefully) my upgrade context (40x48 i/o + patchbay investment, sw, hw etc) - and the mismatch configuration forced me to look at radical ways to get to PT12.x - and I even considered network based i/o (like Waves) but the latency did not compare to what I already had. So - I had HD5 on Magma chassis; "5,1" Westemere Mac Pro. I removed my Magma Chassis, all the cards, and the host card. Purchased a new HDX card, installed in computer and did the upgrade to 12.x (I have a perpetual license.) The rest of the solution was surprisingly simple - since I have 3 interfaces on two Digilinks, I simply purchased two Digilink->Mini Digilink adapters (around $70 each at the time). It works like a charm. HOWEVER IT IS UNSUPPORTED by AVID. THIS IS AT YOUR OWN RISK. A day may come where this will no longer work correctly, but it has extended my investment and is rock solid for our workflow. SOME TIPS if you try this. 2. Read everything you can at Avid about co-install 10/11/12 issues and make sure your rig qualifies... mine did so I progressed. 3. CLONE YOUR HARD DRIVE, ( I used CCC) and have a retreat plan if it doesn't work for your particular setup. 4: I've never *manually* installed the Avid Drivers. They may in fact be installed, but I read somewhere not to do that. I can't emphasize how happy I was when it worked. The card was expensive, the adapters relatively cheap - but the alternative in my case (including Patchbay revisions etc) would have put my upgrade over 30K easy. So 5-6K was hard to swallow but has REVOLUTIONIZED my day to day workflow, because even though there are bugs, version 12 offers game changing features for me. Hope that's helpful!

you mentioned how some say your youtube video is distorted on their speakers. you didn't touch on how important "level along a chain " is. given they prob plugged their laptop to their amp. and didn't account that headphones take a hotter mix. and couldn't get their sound to not distort at any volume. cause they were clipping their on pre's :)

I learned so much from this video. I would need a Xanax to work on large projects produced in Scotts studio. Love the Grand Room but I would hate to dust it..lol Rhett
