Hey Warren, I saw you were discussing routing options with the 5088, I think this board is AMAZING and can be used for both the ultimate tracking and summing (yes summing!). You can indeed come direct out of the pre's to "tape"...OR...you can come out of the pre to the line in of the console and use the direct output of the console itself to go to tape. This simply allows the engineer to hear the music via the console before hitting converters. However...as well as the line in on the main frame...you also have a tape input for the daw. So in essence...if one is happy monitoring from the DAW stereo out while tracking...(which makes sense) you can flip back and forth between what you hear...from whats running through the desk while tracking and whats hitting the DAW. When it comes to summing or full on mixing...there are so many options and this is where is gets exciting. You EITHER go into the tape input to the main desk, which will sound awesome itself...OR...if you are not using your line inputs to the pre amp modules, you can return there and get the full use of EQ and Silk controls (and then you will be going into the desk itself with even more transformer loveliness!). In other words...there is a world of possibilites with this beauty. This desk is really what summing should be for. Everywhere you go into is full of transformers at every input and output. The pre amps themselves are route-tastic and its loaded with transformers at nearly every input and output. I say all this because the RND stuff I feel is where summing makes complete sense...it has the weight and colour one wants. Also...on the subject of summing...the only way it ever made sense to me is anywhere where EVERY channel of the summing tools offers colour (otherwise...why do it? Even RND's summing mixers only have the colour on the stereo busses, which, as much as I love RD stuff, this still makes no sense to break out into so many channels that are "clean" only to have the stereo buss add colour). Another way to sum with colour without buying a console is to buy some basic summing box with insert points, and grab a bunch RND 542 modules for every channel. Those are the tape emulator 500 series modules. Why those? They have input and output transformers, AND...they have a third transformer for the tape emulator section AND this beauty of a module has the red and blue silk functions...with the blend features etc...THAT is where summing makes sense. In other words...RND stuff I think is making great options for those who want amazing front end along with summing options which make sense. This might not be the cheapest option for many, but its not at the price point of a RND 5088, which I think YOU should buy Warren hehe...you know you want one!!! PS**not an offical sales pitch. I have had the privelage of using one of these consoles and...yeah...Rupert Neve hot a home run with these products.

Every time you get near a guitar in a video Warren, you completely switch off from everyone around you 😂 Imagine having all these tool at your finger tips. I have wondered though if everything analogue has the effect we would hope for or does it drown itself out? With the concept that if everything is bright nothing is bright and if everything is warm nothing is warm. I've only had the luxury of a very modest hybrid setup and as I have learned more and more I have suddenly hit upon a new question I need answered to understand mixing better. I have already learned that it does not help to go through the same out board as i recorded with as it adds the same harmonics again and it begins to become cloudy

Shame that the Shadow Hills units don’t get as much love/usage. The Dual Vandergraph is SUPER 3D… it’s like a cheat code on the stereo bus. Makes sense, it’s just the discrete VCA section of their legendary master comp. I own the SSL bus comp as well and the DV is less “snappy” but deeper and wider. It naturally sweetens everything that goes into it. I throw the SSL on the drum buss and it’s the best of both worlds.

What is the business model of such a large recording studio..? The band rents a studio for a few days to record the track. At the same time, musicians can use absolutely all the instruments that are available in the studio. The group works with its own sound engineer, who has an idea of how the group should sound. At the same time, he collaborates with the sound engineer of the studio, who understands how to use all studio equipment. This is how I imagine it...

Interesting how the tube amps could go from clean to distorted guitar tone.

Not really. That’s why tube amps are the best. Modelling and capture tech is great don’t get me wrong but given the choice I always use a real tube amp any day over digital stuff
@Anders01

@@truthfactreality6814 Yes, there is a reason for why a studio like Sweetwater has all this analog gear. Software is getting better such as IK Multimedia's Tonex but I think a professional guitarist will immediately hear the difference between software emulations and high quality real amps.

@@Anders01 I have a quad cortex. But I always use my Marshall afd100, silver jubilee and jvm410h. I’ve captured all of them too if I do work when I can’t take any weight. Much prefer the tubes though !

@@Producelikeapro Warren, I’m sure Sean is great, but I have to confess I haven’t seen this episod. I think much of the great channels here on KZbin has been marketing channels. I don’t like it. Your channel has been one of the greatest. We do not need more gear, we do not need more plugins. But, we DO need MORE great songs. And I know you agree! Too much attention, money and time is spent on wrong things today. But, that’s just my opinion! :)

Thanks! Just got from spending a week at Abbey Road! The album was made with a TG Console, curvebender EQ, a huge amount of Neumann Mics, Fairchild Compressors, EMI RS compressors, tons of amazing and very expensive gear, in a beautiful room with incredible songs and players!

damn this is a great video but if I were the engineer i'd smack warren for interrupting me after the 17th time. It was brutal. Same with the new rick beato video in abbey road. Neither listen when they ask questions. They just want to give their own opinion. Ironic given they are engineers.
