SCAM ALERT! Hello to everyone watching this. Please note we will NEVER promote competitions or prizes in KZbin comments sections. There are parties pretending to be us. So if ANYONE asks you to contact them saying you’ve won a prize and asks for details, please ignore them. Better still, please help us report them to KZbin. You have not won a prize, and it is not us. It’s happening right across KZbin, with collective apologies!

tik tok is moving to longer form content and its going well when it comes to cooking, tutorials, design advice, etc. so even the king of short form is expanding long form. its not an either or, its just what people are talking about the most right now, doesnt mean its the biggest or will always be.

I'm a big dog guy so I'm biased - but you don't ever have to apologize for Rosie. One of the things that makes TPS compelling is that you two are who you are. 19:02 I would argue that point, Mick! I would argue that KZbins algorithm is pretty fond of your content! Whenever I’m watching videos, and the next video pops up, without me choosing it, 9 times out of ten, it’s a TPS video. Idk if that’s how it is for everyone, or even most people, but for me, the algorithm is a fan of TPS!lol P.S. I’ve been enjoying the TPS shorts!!

I love your videos gents and for me personally, the longer the better. I'm travelling this week and will be diving into the full Landreth vids. As for KZbin, I'll quote my cousin who once drunkenly said, when I was raving about a reverb pedal a while back, "just f*** off with your algorithms!" I know it's easy for me to say as I don't rely on the system for money, but I think it'll be a sad day when long form, detailed, passionate content like yours starts to become more rare in the pursuit of views and revenue.

Volume balancing between clean and distortion: SOLVED, for me. I use the passive volume pedal (Mission VM-1) as the last item in my effects loop. I use the Nose Effect Pedal - Volume Pedal, as a master volume trim before it. I can play clean and driven tones and tweak my amp’s stage volume on the fly. I swear this was a game changer for me, we cover so many styles. If you need to bump the volume for a lead you could add the tc electronic Spark Mini Booster. I usually can’t play my amp at levels to push the power tubes, sometimes I can… but, the pre-amp tubes are happy... (non-professional weekend warrior) Love this channel!

The Algorithm Blues are so impersonal, guys. Don't let them get to you. Remember that your show has an exceptional ARCHIVAL value. I've played as a gigging musician for thirty years and have only really started learning about my sound and how it's fundamental components work together since I began watching That Pedal Show. Your channel will grow in reputation as the De Facto content on tone and be forever handed down as a trade secret from the vets to the cadets
@ThatPedalShow
@ThatPedalShow 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Dale, that’s kind of you to say. It’s a journey… a journey of passion and conviction and ego and how those things jostle for position along the way. Being concerned about the algorithm is such a colossal waste of valuable life, but at the same time here we are on KZbin relying on it to stay in business. And the fact it has become business is all part of that trade-off between passion, conviction and ego once again. Ha! This moment. Just this moment and nothing else. If we can do that, we’re winning. Thank you for the kind words!

Please do. Having researched Shorts this morning, I feel we are descending into a black hole of intensely dumb content aimed at people with zero attention span. As much as I already fear for humanity's general intelligence nosedive, it seems we are embarking on a whole new gradient downwards. Needless to say we're not going there. It may be the death of us too, but so be it. We'll find a corner of the web to inhabit. And if we don't, at least we don't contribute to the inane vacuum of scrollbait that many people seem to so dearly desire. Exasperated Mick here, obvs.

@@ThatPedalShow THANK YOU! Sincerely, from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Both of you and anyone else who helps make TPS happen. The best we can do is refuse to participate in TikTok culture and keep on keepin' on as they say. @1:28 question about acoustic: I have a clover on my board to help out my k&k among other tasks. I also have a pack of acoustic IRs I blend in with the dry signal with the boss IR200. The send on the boss goes to my amp, and the out goes to the p.a.. When I play the acoustic, I disable the amp sim which mutes the fx loop (muting my amp). That's the fix I found. :) D&M: thanks for all you do!

Socked feet in the camera, demonstration of clicking two foot switches with a shoe ( I accidentally do that with my DD200 sometimes, activates the looper function which is not what I'm usually trying to do!) , an extended Rosie visit, talk of tone woods! tangents galore...this VCQ had it all. Please don't apologize for Rosie visits. I'm not even a dog person and my mood lifts when she makes an appearance. If one of your pedal builder friends doesn't build a pedal and call it "The Rosie" and have an image of Rosie on the pedal, then I don't know what they are thinking.

In order to stay married (and more happily) I had to learn that my tone was either the thrill or the bane of my intended communication. There definitely a relationship between the tone of the speaker and the ear of the receiver. A guitar player is a system reacting with a system for mutual benefit of player and listener. A player cannot play without listening. All matters and each listener has a sweet spot of reception. That cooperative spirit is the key to making sounds into music.

Just on the rig for acoustic and electric on one board. I found the best way was to run from your guitar into your tuner and at that point hit an A/B pedal. A) Goes off to next input of your electric pedal chain/amp, and B) goes into a D.I and off to front of house. This way you don’t need two tuners, and the A/B pedal acts as a kill for whatever channel you’re not using 👍🏻 It also eliminates having to have a cable each for the acoustic and electric. What’s essential too is that the A/B is a high quality and has noiseless switching. I’d recommend the Lehle A/B but I used the Whirlwind AB/Y for years. Both are silent but the Lehle has the Iso and ground options. The last you want is a big popping sound through the PA when you switch back to electric. Learned from personal experience, ha!

Dan - absolutely loved the Tele vid. I agree with all you did and the approach you took, i’m in the ‘everything makes a difference’ camp. The reality is that pots and switches wear and get funky, pickups can do weird things, frets wear and need to be replaced - and life is just too short to live with that sort of frustration. You’ve now got a much better balanced guitar that you love to play. It’s not like you routed it for a floyd rose or anything.

I spent several years carrying only one guitar per month to practice rehearsal and gig. Sometime the next guitar (selected by order of purchase) felt "off" for a few days. But, other times I was relieved and encouraged by the change. This experience, however, was inconsistent. That told me I was the variable and the rotation broadened my ability to quickly relate favorably to a less familiar instrument.

I have 50’s wiring in my American Series 01’ Stratocaster. To me it does everything a fender modern wiring could do from 10-8, but from 7-2 it has significantly less treble roll off than a standard Stratocaster. To me it does what you want a volume to do. There is still a slight roll off of the treble but it’s not that steep ledge of treble fall off a standard strat gets when you turn down.

Being alarmed at the bustle in my hedgerow, I'm buying some headroom, to Heaven... I missed live VCQ yesterday and am catching up. Wading into "tone wood", and having been an intense home woodworker for a period, of course there are many differences between species and it wouldn't be hard to capture imaginations and lure them with exotics. But the electrics evolved via largely pedestrian species, hopefully generating what? Tone. So we have to listen. If there's a problem, as my friend Larry Cragg has said, "Sometimes it's just a bad piece of wood." I grew up a barefoot kid in the Bakersfield of the '60s (and long since moved away). I am incredibly grateful for every piece of wood in the barn. I'm not good enough to tell them what to play; they tell me. They dictate the mood and I just try to come along. It's kind of the same with pedals. It just all changes day to day. Love you guys. -G

Dan , you are so right it's your guitar and you want to play it . If you feel that it needs changes then you change it . What I find strange is when people pay the cost of a hospital wing ( Dell Amichie reference ) for a stock guitar and then don't play it & lock it in a box !! Many years ago in the Goodwood festival a man let a well known ex F1 driver race his 1960s Aston Martin zegarto & he spanked it , the reporter asked the owner if he had any regrets , the owner said of course not , the car was built to be raced !!! To be fair I was nearly in tears as £ 4000000 worth of scrap was being dragged off the track , I suppose one could argue that if you can afford it then it doesn't matter!! Plus the man in question flew off in his Bell jet ranger so you won't be seeing him at Iceland anytime soon . PEACE and LOVE to everyone.

The tone wood argument and what it brings up is so interesting to me. This concept of picking something out of “better” is a logic based decision. Music and instruments are an entirely an emotionally based decision. I play AC30s and treble boosters because I connect with it from being raised on Queen by my late father. An entirely emotionally based love. As Mick might know, nothing cemented this more for me than cruising through a guitar shop while in a particular low point of depression. In absence of feeling, nothing sounds good, nothing looks good nothing can be connected with.

Yarb. I don’t think we can separate the emotional/motivated cognition bit from the measurable/scientific bit. Sound is certainly measurable, but that has little to do with how sound and music is felt by an individual. As for getting twisty about whether this wood is better than that, I want to hear the opinion-giver actually play. Fully engaged playing. If they can make me feel it, I’m all in. Problem is, every guitar player who makes me feel it to this point in my life… always plays the ‘good’ sheeeat. Maybe that’s a coincidence!

I have discovered a late 80s classic shredding and rock guitar and they are selling for £295 on certain sites check out some Saxon videos from the mid 90s and both Oliver and Quinn are playing these guitars so they have to be pretty good although their style dress wise is a seperate issue the guitar is a fernandes STG 75 they are HSS configuration and have a floyd rose trem and believe me they are killer guitars.

Probably a stupid question but as you each have a favorite guitar with it's own specific sound is there any pedal that lives on your pedal board that you know either won't sound right or will need adjusting if while playing live you had to switch to a different back up guitar ?(ie from the tele to the gold top etc)

Hello! Not really… most of the peds we use - and our rigs in general - will work with most classic guitars. That said, when it comes to ODs and boosts and fuzzes, a simple tweak here and there is quick enough! Cheers!

Thanks guys for the response on the volume pedal with wet dry. I’m using it as a master volume it is in the insert loop of an rjm pbc 10 then feeds a humdinger to dry amp and wet efx then wet amp. Will try a compressor but also may try a stereo vol pedal with one side on the dry amp only ( after split to dry amp) then the other side at the end of the wet efx before the wet amp that way the signal from the dry to the wet will be the same as both sides of the volume pedal are just before the amps. I’m watching the show after the live broadcast. Thanks for all your advice you guys rock

Just bang out one 30-60 sec ‘Pedal of the Day’ vid featuring a pedal (or two) from your collection(s) that ticks a certain box. Quick fire style. Tell us what it is, what it does, where/why you acquired it, whether you still use it or intend to keep/sell, etc. If you aim to offload, you can post it on Reverb or auction off to support the show. Or let us produce them for you and you can feature on your channel(s). You are creative. I’m sure you will find a way to make it fun and informative (without becoming a drag). Whatever you decide, we are all here for it, ready to support (and have fun while we learn). We are fortunate to have what we’ve got. Let’s keep it going strong 💪 All the best to you. Aloha, D 🤙

The thing with the tone wood "argument", is that even if there was some research or experiment done that 100% conclusively answered in (and more importantly) everyone agreed on the outcome... it wouldn't change a single thing in terms of how people bought guitars, how they played guitars, how much they enjoyed guitars. It's got to the point where people just want to be right so they can say "see, I was right".

I saw AP on that tour. His isn’t the kind of music I would listen to very often but occasionally you get the opportunity to be in the room with someone that is an absolute master so you make urge you are there. Same for Ainsley, but on that occasion I couldn’t make it which is a shame.

Question for the community: Looking at the Fender Pro Jr IV, and there are two types. The lesser-priced black version has a "Fender Special Design" 10" speaker, whereas the more expensive tweed version has a Jensen P10R 10" speaker. Does anyone have experience with one or both? Is one more recommended than the other?

What do you guys think of using an HX Effects or Stomp XL as a wet dry rig? I’ve seen where you can use different paths to split the wet effects out of the send, while the dry signal goes out the normal direct out. Let me know what you think!!!

Could totally work Daniel. Only potential fly in the ointment is that both sides are either analogue dry through or have the same amount of digital latency. If one is ADT and the other has latency it’ll give you a phase problem that’s very hard to fix. Other than that, cool!

An SG was one of the last styles of guitar I ended up trying. I love the access to frets and I love the brighter neck pickup in a different position. I'm not really a fan of the super thin necks though. I really like my special faded with a chunkier neck. Also, Alice in Chains unplugged!

Hi Leg-ends! Noise and Vibration Engineer here. Science is able to explain the tonewood topic, ever since a gentleman called Isaac Newton was around 😉 Newton 2nd Law defines that the diferential equation of motion of a body is described by: M*a(t)+C*v(t)+K*x(t) = f(t) a(t),v(t),x(t) being the acceleration, velocity and displacement of the body, respectively, and f(t) the force applied to the body (all as a function of time). M,C and K being the mass, damping and stiffness of the body. As we all can understand different materials have different properties (mass, damping, stiffness,...) as such the material will impact how the body vibrates and its resonant frequencies. Other factors such as the topology (geometry - different guitar shapes) of the body might also affect its vibration behaviour - geometry can affect stiffness. Well, you may say it's all just wood, but different woods have slightly different properties (just as metals). Also, since wood is a natural material of uncontrolled manufacturing, different wood "batches" of the same species might have slightly different properties (due to orientation of the grain, etc.). In the end, these vibrations are captured by an electromagnetic device (Pickups) and run through a sinal chain that will modify the signal in every step of the way (cables, pedals, amp, ...). So in the end maybe not everyone can tell the diference (different people, different sound susceptibility) But who cares?! Music is supposed to be felt, not thought 😉 Play the sound that connects with you 🙂 Keep with the great work, D&M!
