Engaging 60hz without boosting on the Helios. Love it when saturation reduces the need for eq.

Amazing to see how he treated the synth. My first instinct usually to go in with a scalpel, but to see him just nudge it into the background with ease. Always love watching Marc do so much by doing so little. Master at work.

Wow! this is exactly why I love KZbin! I can watch this video...which says it was posted 9 months ago and hear absolutely LEGENDARY mixing techniques on my own time. This was mindblowing. Actually just the warm smooth analog sounding voice over had me right from the beginning, and then when the track started and it was full bandwith 20-20kHz magic, with width and depth for days, I was blown away. Still scraping my jaw off the floor. And to watch you work and hear you vocalize your thought process was just pure gold. Best 20 minutes of my day!

The placement of the spring verb was beautifully balanced to me! Perfect sound and placement! Also, the Dbx on the guitar bus was a really nice call
@WheelieMix Жыл бұрын
Perfect music to chill and amazing mix tbh, stellar reverb work! By the way, the "Helios trick" mentioned around 5min, is not harmonic. It's really just an EQ shape. A lot of old EQ designs do this. As soon as you engage the curve (or the EQ), the EQ start to already boost or cut a little bit. With the Helios, engaging the 60hz (with no boost or cut) actually boost the signal quite heftily. Giving around 2db of a very wide Q boost (ranging from 5hz to 2000hz!). Hence why it works perfectly on guitars ;). But the harmonic on the Waves plugin, when doing this, are absolutely static, they do not change change at all. Cheers!

thank you so much for sharing with us. it's so nice. but personally I always have difficulty compressing guitars with a recorded tremolo. in your example I find that the 160 kills the naturalness of the tremolo (maybe the yt compression) a question, how to control the dynamics of a guitar recording with its effects. follow manual or compressor? or both :) merci maître .

Ahhhhh.....for once, an audio production video with music i actually enjoy. It really makes so many of these instructional videos hard to bear, also a reason why i was never able to become a full on sound engineer, so much music around that either annoys me or bores me to death. I love love love working with musicians/bands i appreciate though, what an experience that is/was, every time.

I have disabilities from brain surgeries and chemo, radiation, i just struggle with tasks but my emotions and musical passion must be expressed. Im lost
@shaft9000 Жыл бұрын
First, decide what your goals are. "What to get" is a matter of what you want to do (that is, getting better results than raw lo-fi recordings with a cel phone). For example: Some people need several microphones to record different sources; other people don't need a mic at all - or maybe just one to do a voice-over or podcast. Microphones are a wide-ranging topic altogether. And consider another path. You may prefer a simpler approach than a DAW/ProTools, because most DAW software has a long learning curve, and the variables can be endless. Garage Band is as simple as it gets in that domain. Alternative: A self-contained Multi-track Recorder, along the lines of what Zoom and Korg (and a few others) make. They typically range from $100-$700 in cost depending on the # of track/channels. As a self-contained recorder+mixer with its own dedicated operating system ONLY about music, these things may be much more direct and free of the minutia that PC/Mac systems bring. This approach can save you a lot of time and energy and money you don't need to be spending/stressing over just so you can make some decent recordings.
@nicolasblanckaert2035 Жыл бұрын
you can also get Reaper for free
@unknownmusicman Жыл бұрын
You don't need pro tools. Reaper is only $60, and there's an unlimited demo that doesn't expire. Check that out and get a feel for what it's like using a DAW to make music on a computer. It's very capable and many pro tools users have switched to it because of the ridiculous pro tools subscription model.

I love how all of the instruments fade out completely and naturally. I can't stand recordings where things just end so abruptly and you don't get to hear everything else. I want the songs to fade out naturally as the music draws to a close and I love to hear the sound of instruments fading out completely Because it gives you time to think about the song. I can't stand when records are mastered where the songs just are all space together with no end. Gapless playback is great when you throw a party and you're telling your smart phone or speaker to play music without gaps but I don't think it's great for mastering an album.

@NoQualmsTheArtist Жыл бұрын
@@barneyrubble8255 he didn't do this. Just panned the 2 mono tracks and sent them both to the same stereo bus and processed then together. And Studio One can do this, it can also combine mono tracks and split stereo track just like protools, but you have to do it in the pool not on the track.
