I found a clean instrumental… and there’s a half a second piano part at the end that honestly did not need to be in there, but it’s these extra details that make me love this song to death

That stuttery part where the subs come through are probably really helpful for vinyl. Sudden total volume fluctuations can be bad for the needle, especially in the bass. Also when the bass gets suppressed on that fast double kick is one of the biggest mistakes in more amateur metal productions. I always cut bass on fast double kick. In fact I'll even shorten the sustain on the kick even more. Sometimes with a totally different sample if I'm working with triggers and samples.

Hey Bobby, good breaking down of the production! This song is not for everybody in terms of its aggressive sound and power. And to those that think the song is horrible, perhaps your appreciation for production is misplaced. Personally, I dig the aggressiveness and tone much more than listening to just your typical death metal screamo bands that have no production quality.

Much easier way to figure out the frequency of the kick is to use a spectrogram, like in Izotope RX. You can just zoom in and you will see it.

Incredible breakdown of the song. Thank you. My first realisation was how bright the song is and how much stuff fills out the high-end of the spectrum which is baked into the mix and not just upping the highs of the master track so everything sounds super bright. I have no idea but i assume that there was alot of mastering type processing done within the mix to keep it at this constant pressure.

Yea I kinda didn't like that right off the bat immediately. But it's too taste. It's not that it's too harsh, but it's very saturated with harmonics. Sounds very sizzly.

14:09 not sure what you are saying with the bad edit here. Maybe I don't have the ears for it but I don't notice anything. The only thing I could argue was the "you" in the vocal having some vibrato/being a little out of tune. Would love a deeper explanation. Otherwise great analysis for just being able to look at a master.

It's wild that people were paid good money to ruin this band's recording. And watching you analyze it as if it has any redeeming qualities is giving me a major case of the giggles. 3:20 "Let's go find a kick drum..." as you look at a 3 minute-long square wave. LMAO!

You think the kick looks like a square wave? I didn't feel that way personally. That was actually something I was impressed about - how the kick sinusoid didn't sound or look like it has much clipping distortion. I think the majority of the clipping occurs at the higher frequencies. I think maybe they used a multiband clipper or something to keep the low end from sounding mushy...

TONS of clipping distortion from the mastering - that is for sure! But what I can really appreciate is the microdynamics and impact. It does have a very aggressively bright sound to it that is more familiar in EDM and Pop music. Thanks for the comment!

Just for clarity, what I mean by production is the songwriting and the elements and textures used in the mix. Not necessarily the "sound" of the track that comes from the mixing/mastering process. There really aren't any dynamics, but this type of music (in my opinion) tends to sound best when it's smashed like this. The important distinction here is that the song retains MICRODYNAMICS, which gives it impact and a VERY aggressive feel without being overly noticeable. Personally, I wouldn't push the track this loud because you can indeed hear the clipping distortion over the top. But at the same time, it does give the song an abrasiveness that stylistically fits. This just shows how much preference there is in production I think this sounds really really good and not only that but I think bmth have really changed the game for rock/metal/electronic production
