When you asked if it was bass or synth, it's bass! The bass player, Calum (who also sang the lead vocals on Wildflower), has improved so much with his bass playing! All of them are really great musicians, but I think Calum (bassist) and Ashton (drums) go SO hard on every song! Also, while yes they obviously layered the vocals in songs like Red Desert, all of the members can sing and can sing well so most of the time it's just them harmonizing with each other. Also, there's a short video where Calum breaks down the production of Wildflower a little bit, and you might be interested in that since you're a producer. There's also a video of Ashton playing the drums to Wildflower which you also might like since you're a fan of the drums!

That's so cool that you said it's very Beatles (when listening to High). I read Luke said: "Songwriting in itself is very selfish, and this song in particular, the lyric [“I hope you think of me high / I hope you think of me highly”] is very clever and very self-involved. I love the honesty. That’s why I wanted to close the album with it. I had these chords in my head; I really wanted a Beatles-esque song with quirky chords. I like how narcissistic it is, but in such a sweet and unassuming way."

@zehevya4 жыл бұрын
Ok I just finished watching the nearly hour long review. It was great. I'm glad you took a lot more into account but left with a hats off to artists being artists and a humble goodbye at the end. I'm a huge fan of rhythm & something I really like about this album that you touched on is that everyone is kind of rhythm. But the drum really drives, radiates, and almost pushes with the vocals & emphasizes the melody, making it sound dark & gritty & on the tip of your seat. The bass and guitar have great lines too. Constantly moving. I think the placement is spot on. You don't always need to do some crazy riff to drive a song. Sometimes a simple play along-question & answer as you say- is more effective. But there were a lot of muted insane guitar and bass lines that I'm fairly certain were kind of hidden on purpose. Kind of sneaky and extremely smooth. It is just my preference to not hear the music mimic the melody. I also heard the Latin guitars in more than one song. The slowed down 3/4 time in my opinion makes it sound extremely grand and epic like this is what we've worked so hard for. And then Cinderella comes down the stairs and has her well deserved grand dance with the prince. Haha. Makes me imagine a couple dancing beautifully and every thing and one around stopping & time stands still (rufio ✊). But it is also extremely dark which I feel was the overall feeling. Anyway..

I'm not sure if you know these things or if anyone else talked about them in the comments but: 1. Matt Pauling produced both Red Desert and Lonely Heart. He also produced Killer Queen. 2. Luke(lead vocalist)and his girlfriend,Sierra Deaton, wrote Lover of Mine together on their couch. 3. Michael(main guitarist)said that he might use Best Years as his wedding song and that other people could too. 4. You hadn't mentioned this during Wildflower so I thought you hadn't known but Calum(bassist)sang Wildflower. 5. In an interview, they said that Red Desert was definitely inspired by Killer Queen. 6. They've covered 'Stay' by Post Malone before and so they probably wanted to try the sounds out. 7. In an interview, they said that the whole album was them experimenting with different sounds. That's all I have at the moment...if I remember some detail I forgot to write I will come back and edit this comment. Also, you should definitely listen to their album 'Youngblood' which has some fucking amazing instrumentals and vocals.Their older album called 'Sounds Good Feels Good' is a lot more punk rock sounding and is hella appreciated by us. Amazing reaction! Listening to how the songs sound in the perspective of a producer is always so interesting and for me it makes whatever is being discussed even more enjoyable. This album by far has to be one of my favorites from 2020, without a doubt. 5sos came for BLOOD with CALM. Once you got to Lonely Heart I was excited to hear your thoughts since in my opinion it’s one of the songs on the album that takes a few listens to get used to. When you mentioned how you would’ve liked if they did a drop like Nick Jonas’ “Close” along with the lines “Such a lonely heart” I immediately was just like “Oh my god, YES.” That would’ve just made the song so much better than it already is and would’ve added a nice twist, they could’ve kept the original chorus and for the ending included the pause, drop, THEN the chorus for that grand finale. Really loved your reaction and side comments man, I’m definitely subscribing :)

Ok, I loved everything about this reaction and how attentive you were to everything going on, but I think my favorite bit is when you explained them changing the hook in lonely heart to something like the beat in closer and now I’m super intrigued in knowing what something like that would sound like, bc like I personally loved how unexpected that whole bit of the song is but damn that concept sounds sick!! and also how excited you got at the idea of them hiring you to help with their next album was adorable, all in all just thank you for this! ☺️

The only "music producer reacts" host who remains positive, and unbiased. Love how much you teach us about the behind the scenes of the songs and point out things we may not notice.

Really loved this video! I liked how you complimented their songs by explaining the techniques they used, and I also liked how you were able to talk about the different things they could have done with the song without being rude. Keep up the good work :-) Hope you keep doing more 5sos, I love them!!!!

This album was produced by Post Malone's guitarist, so it makes sense to why some of the songs sound like his stuff.

Nothing makes me happier than hearing praise for this album! It's a masterpiece in so many ways, and one of the only things that's been getting me through this time. I love how in depth you discuss everything; I've heard this album so many times and you pointed out some things I've never noticed before!! Thank you for this, I love 5SOS!! 💜

Hii, I'm from brazil and I love watching your reaction videos to music bc you're so professional, honest and kinda raw while doing it, it's so enjoyable to see. I'm a huge 5sos fan, I want to see you reacting to everything about them like you've been doing lately and I hope someday you can react to Louis Tomlinson's full album called Walls. I'd love to see your opinion on it bc I'm his huge fan as well and I have this feeling that you would love his melodies, voice and lyrics. It's unique and he's a really talented musician and lyricist (wrote most of one direction's songs and all the songs in his album). Thanks!

Wow, I’m in love with your channel! I like the way you listen to the songs and how you make us listen the same way, catching small details and layers of each song. That’s really nice and a new point of view here in KZbin. And it’s kinda funny when you try to break the technicalities to us who aren’t into music work. Keep going, everything’s amazing!

this is my third time watching this all the way through and it makes me love and appreciate the album even more now 🥰 thank you for such an in-depth and insightful review, and please consider covering lover of mine for real and adding in those melodies in the end that you tried here!!! it's my favorite one, alongside red desert, and i agree, it would sound even better with those added plus your voice sounds so good 🥺

also i guess you are getting a looooot of suggestions and requests now but if you do have a chance please check out nothing but thieves! they have such a unique sound and i would really appreciate your thoughts on their production (broken machine is an excellent cohesive album to start with but i know doing a full album review is extremely time consuming so any song by them would be fine really) thank you and keep up the great content!

Lover of Mine is my favourite off of the album (Closely followed by Thin White Lies and Red Desert)! I love how you broke it down, and the extra lyric/melody idea you added at the end is phenomenal, and it would have been incredible to hear on it.

Red Desert: it doesn’t take too long Luke: to what? Red Desert: to heal and replace Luke: What are we running from? Red Desert: the demons we’re running from Luke: what are they doing? Red Desert: theyre begging to stay Luke: ah Who else always does this when they’re listening to Red Desert? 😂

I love how you don't use the usual video format, the stupid introductions, the cringey editing etc. and how you seem very sincere in the end, when you us to like and subscribe. It is so authentic. I miss seeing that in today's social media.

i saw that it was 56 minutes and was like “i don’t know if i can watch the whole thing.” mostly because i can’t focus on one thing for a long time LOL but before i knew it you were reacting to high. you were so insightful and it was so interesting to have a perspective from someone who is a professional.

I absolutely loved this reaction!! I feel like I gained so much knowledge on music. Plus 5 seconds of summer definitely went all out with storytelling, vocals and amazing production on this album. Their sound is way more unique then just regular pop.

Theory: They made Lonely Heart less vocal for the hook/chorus so they could leave room for a guitar solo riff off and drum solo. Just a total bang thrash sesh! What a vibe that would be live!

I guess that was the best reaction video i have ever watched. Some people do reactions and they act like they love every seconds of the songs but they actually dont they do it for the likes and all that stuff. But i can say that your reactions was real. Beside that i love your video because you explain many thing that we dont know and you have really good comments about songs. You are my favorite reaction channel now 👍🏻💞
