All the boys are singing but the voice you're hearing in the most of the tracks belongs to Luke Hemmings, lead singer. Michael Clifford is guitarist and also vocalist, Calum Hood is the bassist and also vocalist and Ashton Irwin is the drummer and also vocalist(He just released a solo album with a completely different genre, you should check him out too). They started covering songs on KZbin in 2012, then Louis Tomlinson tweeted one of their covers then they blew up! They supported One Directon in two tours. They have 4 albums in total. First two have more Punk sound than the others. The second album Sounds Good Feels Good is a fan favorite album. They changed their sound a little bit on the 3rd album Youngblood in 2018 which you should check that ASAP, it's a banger. Their 4th album is CALM which came out on March 27 2020. Also you're right, Charlie Puth is one of the producers and writers of Easier. They also have a remix with Charlie Puth where he sings in it too. Also the last track, Kill My Time is produced by One Direction's producers John Ryan and Julian Bunetta.

new people discovering 5 Seconds of Summer and starting on CALM is one of my favourite things honestly. I’ve been listening since their first album, so it’s been interesting for me to grow with the band and see their (VERY impressive) evolution from the start, but for someone to be able to start from now and go backwards and see where they came from is just so interesting to me, especially when they get to the first album. I would say, if you’re gonna go backwards through them, listen to their EP’s and B-Side albums too, because they’re just as good as the main albums :)) they’re also really funny guys, all 4 of them EXTREMELY talented. Good luck mate, as soon as you’re in it isn’t an easy escape aha

You can go into CALM, Youngblood or Sounds Good Feels Good and enter in a complete different universe but a very beautiful one. They are great, you should hear the other albums, but you'll find something very different from this one😊

okay so from the CALM cover, Calum Hood (blue hair): bass and 2nd main vocals , he is actually the one singing the main vocal on Wildflower. Ashton Irwin (white tank top with jacket): drummer and vocals Luke Hemmings (yellow shirt): main vocal and guitar. Michael Clifford (blonde hair): guitar and vocals. do you see it? CALM. it's the first letters of their first names! and i have to say, because you pointed it out, in thin white lies, luke is the main vocal and the one singing the harmony at that high register is ashton. the DRUMMER. and i have to point that out because a lot of people (not fans obviously) think that as the drummer all he does is play drums (there was an incident where they did a performance for the 2015 BBC Radio 1's Teen Awards where ashton's mic was off even though in one of the songs they performed ashton literally has a solo verse, that whole performance was a mess because michael fell off the stage and mike and cal's mic's were turned down and whoever was in charge of lighting only put lights on luke, it was a whole mess, but the biggest thing that michael even called out on stage was the fact that ashton's mic was off. and you know it's because whoever was running the show probably didn't care about ashton's vocals or probably thought ashton didn't sing) but NO. ashton can SING, and every time we get him on a vocal we love it because he is so talented and doesn't get a whole lot of chances to sing live that often (he goes so hard on drums, it would be difficult) but we love a good ashton vocal. ashton also put out a solo album called Superbloom. it's incredible and he even has a live version of it out too. both are on his spotify. here's the thing. 5sos are very experimental and all their albums sound different. like you can hear connections between the albums. a song off Youngblood (3rd album) could have been on CALM, while another song off Youngblood could have been on Sounds Good Feels Good (2nd album). a song off SGFG could have been on Youngblood, while another song could have been on their Self Titled (1st album). but the albums as a whole sound different from each other in the best way. because you started with CALM you should work your way backwards so you can see how their sounds transitioned and changed between each album. also you should definitely check out their live from the vault versions of Easier, Teeth, and No Shame because they do sound different and they're a lot heavier than the studio versions. also, the music videos. they're so great and creative, and Wildflower in particular was filmed with a green screen in their homes while they were self isolating from each other. things you should also check out, not necessarily to react to them but just to learn about who they are as people, they have a movie called How Did We End Up Here which was filmed during their Rock Out With Your Socks Out World Tour in 2015 where they played songs off their Self Titled album. they also have tour diaries posted on their youtube channel that show how they are as people. also on their channel are old cover videos they did when they were teenagers and trying to get their start. actually, just check out their who youtube channel because they also have saved livestreams that they've done and some event things they did. OH also in 2015 they did this project called The New Broken Scene which was this secret live show that fans won tickets to and then they livestreamed the concert. it's up on youtube you just have to search "new broken scene 5sos" and it's the first video. there's of course a lot more content than this but this is a good starting point.

I was grinning so huge through this whole reaction. When you reacted to teeth and said you were looking for a good rock band I just laughed. You had no idea. Lol I think you should work your way backwards. They started as a pop punk band. You can hear little hints of this new verison of them in their second album, Sounds Good Feels Good, but Youngblood and Calm are definitely a whole new Era for 5sos! Luke Hemmings is the lead singer who you heard in most songs but Calum was the lead vocal in Wildflower and all the band members sing! I can't wait to watch you fall further down this rabbit hole. It's the best place to be!

Not in the same way is about Luke’s toxic relationship with his ex (who shan’t be named). Thankfully he’s now in a loving relationship with Sierra but it was hard for the other guys to have to sit and watch him go through what he did with his ex. Lover of Mine he co wrote with Sierra ... she’s made him so much happier. The voice you wanted to know is Luke’s ... the lead vocalist. He does most tracks (except Wildflower - that’s Calum). He’s gotten stronger vocally and more consistent. Recommend you start from their first album and go forward so you can really hear the difference and growth of these guys. They’ve always been amazing but they keep getting better with each album. You should check out their cover of Killer Queen (both videos of behind the scenes footage and the actual video)... this is where they learnt all the harmonies they’ve included on this album. It’s Queen harmonies you’re hearing more so than the Beatles .. IMO 🤷🏼♀️

CALM was the album where they experimented and mixed a lot of different genres together. 5SOS are the king of harmonies and are musical genius, periodt. CALM is such a breathtaking album when it comes down to lyrics. And the instrumentalisation is on another level. I'm so freaking proud of them. By the way, the first 6 songs were released as singles. "Wildflower" is just pure 80s pop, good vibes only, which is why it's my favorite song of the album, with Lover of Mine and Kill my Time. The title CALM are the initials of all the members: Calum, Ashton, Luke, Michael. CALM is also the acronym we, the fans, have used for a long time. So it's a nod to us as well, which is really sweet. Maybe watch the live version of "Wildflower" and the vault versions of "Easier" and "Teeth".

I really recommend watching their interviews with zach sang, in those they talk about the procedure of creating music individually, but also collectively as a band and lots more. What i personally admire and love about this band is that they like to experiment with different sounds and and musical directions on every record of theirs, that’s why their music feels divers and different than the one they’ve done before, but they also make sure that they stay loyal to their roots and combine their old sound with their new one.
@lynandrews10334 жыл бұрын
CALM stands for the initials of their names. Calum, Ashton, Luke, Michael. They all sing so well! but most people agree that Luke is definitely the strongest or best choice for lead vocalist which shows in their more recent albums. However their earlier albums have amazing vocals from Calum and even Michael. Ashton (the drummer) is capable of lead singer moments (he has a great falsetto too in many of the harmonising moments) and he actually released his own independent solo album “Superbloom” in 2020. personally I think Luke is definitely the best vocalist as his voice just suits so many different genres. But Michael’s vocals (not as consistently strong live) are so well suited When he harmonises with Luke and Calum. Michael and Calum sang a few more songs or parts of songs with Luke in their first 2 albums when they were teenagers. Luke is the lead vocalist and also rhythmic guitar (but is also an amazing lead guitarist - also piano/keys) He started as their lead singer when he was just 15. Calum is the bassist and sings the next most. And has a few solo songs like wildflower (Luke sings chorus parts equally with Calum) and also Babylon which are fan faves. Michael is lead electric guitarist and vocalist (does lots of harmonising in every song) he has a couple songs that he sings the most in as well like Jet Black heart, Permanent vacation & Airplanes. Ashton is drummer and vocalist. Doesn’t sing as much on the tracks (obviously does lots of the harmonies and joint vocals on every song as they are all so good in the studio) but the nature of their band is that they are a live group so Ashton can’t do as much vocals at all their shows as he’s busy on the drums. You need to listen to their “No Roots” cover on KZbin as it showcases Ashton and Luke’s vocals. Luke is still consistently the best vocalist and is such a strong singer (so nice from low to high ranges) If you want to start from near the beginning checkout their “How did we end up here” DVD concert movie. When they started Luke was 15, Calum and Michael 16, Aston 17-18 (finished school) Then Luke was developing his vocals as a 16-17 year old while they were touring with 1D and recording their first self titled album. Australian youth had already fallen in love with their very teen/angst EP which thru recorded when Luke was 16. I think Luke was 18 by the time they did their first headlining world tour and 19 when they recorded their DVD concert movie. Then they did “sounds good feels good” which their punk pop fan base loved. It started leading to their newer sound and they toured again. Then they had a 6months holiday (not a break as some people thought) they just needed a rest from touring and then they started writing Youngblood album. They are the only band in the world to have each of their albums debut at No.1 on the billboard charts. They’ve done that 3 times in a row. They would have made it a 4th No.1 album with CALM which is soooooo good. But one company accidentally released 15000 of their pre-sale CALM albums the week before so they charted at No.60 or something like that and people were confused as the album wasn’t out yet. So when the actual week of the correct date release happened they were a 3-4 thousand sales under “The Weekend” so CALM by 5SOS got the No.2 spot. Everyone blasted Billboard as they wouldn’t include the 15000 sales in the correct week which would have put them in No.1 spot fir the fourth consecutive album. They still have the record though (for a band) so still pretty hard to beat. But the fans would have loved to know they had 4 No.1 albums to make it a clean win :) Note when you checkout their Youngblood music video watch the alternate music video concert version (the Japanese Rockerbilly themed music video for Youngblood which is the actual offical music video but doesn’t show any of the 5 seconds of summer band members so isn’t as interesting to react to if you are there for the music) You should react to their live version of Teeth on James Corden. Shows how good Luke is vocally live. Wildflower live on James Cordon as well during Covid time is great to see Calum’s pitch perfect solo vocals or watch the Wildflower music video which has the band in front of green screens to make the video during quarantine - shows Calum lead vocals studio recording. Finally watch Teeth and Easier live from the Vault!!! They show the rock side of 5SOS and is very similar to how their songs are often just so much better at concerts. As they mainly write with live shows in mind. Note. Charli Puth was one of the writers on Easier. Sung by Luke. However there is a version of Easier featuring Charlie Puth where he sings some parts and Luke sings the rest. With all band members harmonising as well.

I love that he decided to do that because he doesn’t sing much in the band (he used to a little bit more with their older stuff) but he has a great voice and i love getting a full album of his vocals. This is exactly how I reacted the first time I got into these dorks now all I watch are 5sos related content. I’ve never been so in love with a band like this before I frickin love them to my core

when they released their very first album, i had already known a lot about them from Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan. I went to their concerts while they toured with One Direction, and it was absolutely amazing. after that i started going to more concerts of when they released new albums. i went to four in total throughout my childhood and i can honestly say, that Calm is the best album i’ve ever heard from them.

They all sing. Luke is the lead singer of the band (sometimes guitarist as well) and on this album, with the other members doing backing vocals. Calum is the bassist and the lead singer of "Wildflower". Michael is the lead guitarist and Ashton is the drummer. More info: they all are incredible songwriters and know how to play different instruments (guitar and piano). The band formed in 2011 in Sydney, Australia. I've been a big fan of 5SOS for a long time and I can tell you being their fan is a whole experience. You're already addicted to their songs haha Welcome to the fanbase. Enjoy the ride! Can't wait for you to listen to their older stuff. You should listen to the albums backwards, otherwise the change in sound is gonna be freaking brutal. PS: I would recommend listening to the earlier albums with the lyrics as it gets confusing who sings what.

Omg, omg. I need him to react to "When You Walk Away", I think it's the song that made me listen to them in the first place. It's such a happy song musically. Also...THE NEIGHBOURHOOD! I need him to react to them.

My fav is Zayn Malik too loved his voice in 1D that's why I'm kinda fascinated with how unique Luke sound. Both musicians (Luke & Zayn) got a unique voice. I acted just like you when I decided to give them a try I even looked up the Album on Genius to see who wrote and sing the songs and it's mostly Luke singing most of the time but they all sing and write the songs btw Charlie is harmonizing in the background too... I'd love to see your reaction to their cover of Queen- Killer Queen

Love your videos and your appreciation for music! Just wanted to say you seem like a super cool dude. I can picture us being friends IRL based on our mutual taste in music and a Harry Potter books in the background(hope that doesn’t come across as weird) 😜

Also I discovered 5SOS right as Teeth came out as ther second single for this album and they've seriously pushed BSB out of number 1 spot on my list of favorite bands. They are INCREDIBLE and it's SO easy to get obsessed

Also you pointed out the Beatles influence on them - ashton (the drummer of 5sos) recently put out a solo album and you can definitely hear his influence there.. especially on the song skinny skinny. Keep up and greetings from Germany 😊

*Your reaction was awesome!* first time I’ve seen one of your videos and you seem such a cool guy. 5sos are really versatile in terms of their sound, having tried different genres and they seem to be able to fit in all of them. If you’re looking for a much more rock-ish sound, I suggest you listen to *Sounds Good Feels Good* It is personally my favorite album, and it is more on the pop-rock pop-punk sound and they ALL sing in that one. And they go over so important themes like depression, and other things that they went through that makes the songs so much more personal. Please listen to it! You won’t regret it.

You should watch the music video of Old Me, around 3:00 in the video they show a reference to 1D in the early days for helping them out by putting them in their tour, also the whole mv is just great!
