The autotune was on purpose. It's to show the difference between their actual selves and their inner voices, I think? The autotuned lines are the inner voices talking to them, saying how they miss their old and happy selves. As you can see, the non-autotune just disappears after a while and it's only autotune from there on. Which is sad, because it shows that they have stopped trying and are now just listening to the (autotuned) voices in their head who are longing to see their happy and carefree selves again. Ah, at least that's my opinion. uwu

I think i know why felix’s part aren’t that much auto tuning. Knowing you as a stay i’m pretty sure you’ve read about felix being the broken compass/key to stray kids right? Maybe that’s why only felix’s voice wasn’t autotuned much maybe it was because he tried to lead the rest of them out of their inner voices? (Or maybe just because felix’s line aren’t that much and it wasn’t worth autotuning)

I personally think that the autotuning matches the song really well meaning wise. since the lyrics are directed at themselves asking where their smile went and that they miss their own self it sounds like "is this right now the real me" "i don't want to believe that this is the real me" and autotune is basically hiding your real voice, altering something of you. so to me that effect created by autotune is actually very fitting and meaningful. but that's only my theory ^^

the autotune is there to further push the message of the song, they still sound like themselves, but it's different enough you can tell a difference and tell it's off. The song is all about talking to yourself and noticing that you've changed and you're not quite the same as before (or it could be friend if you interpret it differently from the boys)
