You can hear the bass from the start plucking along with steady hits on the one. If I were jamming with a bassist plucking ones in a triplet feel I would lock into it counting "One, Two, One, Two." It's different from other songs in the movie. This song has that 3/4 or 6/8 vibe to it. Whereas other songs were deliberate in their swung eighth note 4/4 patterns. A sweet change in time signature to help convey an existing metaphor.

This song sets up the major moments that happen at the climax. Mirabel tells us what's going to happen. "Open your eyes" what her grandma says to her when she gets the doorknob "move the mountains," the magic cracks open mountains and metaphorically forces Abuela to face the history on the other side (the family's metaphorical mountain) "make new trees and flowers grow," her sister grows new things when confronted by Mirabel's accusations and views "heal what's broken," the relationships (so many relationships) "show them something new," the townspeople coming to THEIR aid (and many other things lol) "I'M READY! I've been patient and steadfast and steady" Mirabel is commiting to the change in status quo for the magic and her family. She reveals the literal and metaphorical cracks because she's finally ready to confront what is "not fine." There are more connections but those are the biggest ones I noticed

The singer of this came out and said she was having contractions while recording this, and had her daughter the next day. She didn't want to cancel since they had it all scheduled. lol I can't imagine singing such a belty song with a baby pressing on me!

I LOVE this song, in part because of the emoticon, in part because the base reminds me more of traditional Spanish music with the guitar and claps and feels familiar to me. In general, Hispanic music and obviously using part of the language make me feel more home ( I live in the UK) even if I have never been to Latin America and it's nice to see different cultures through Disney movies.

Something Lin-Manuel Miranda did was to incorporate colombian typical instruments to the songs. For example that one has Harp, and evoke to "Joropo" one of the regions Colombia Folklore has. In Colombia, mi encanto, Lin incorporated many others from a different region such as gaitas, Flauta dulce, tamboras, acordeón. He really did a wonderful job.
