I missed them! Belated Happy Birthday to Gigi! I wish Gigi and the band has already recuperated with their injuries and health with regards to the recent road accident they had. I also wish the are already recuperated financially as well. We wish to see her and them perform again, even not live, but online again. May God bless all of them. 💞🙏🙏🙏🙏💞 "Sakalam" by the way is the reversed spelling of "Malakas" (in English means 'Strong'). For now, they are the only Sakalam group/band in our OPM generation today. I am basing this with regards to the years of being together performing as a group. They have released 1 album before. I guess, Gigi may not be the type of dedicated song writer or composer, or maybe she just don't have the time for it, since she always needs to perform to earn money for her Mom, that is why we understand her, and still support her singing/performing.

Yes please react to Oyus. Can someone enter it in the Google request sheet bc I'm unable to. Oyus & Jon did a livestream back in July when Gigi was resting & taking a break. They sang for over 2 hours, raw, impromptu, amazing. The Divina Ko channel uploaded the songs, I think about 33 of them. Please check them out. I especially like Oyus' cover of HIGH by The Speaks. He also sang Lost Stars, Back At One, Yellow, etc. I felt like I was watching a concert. The fact that they didn't even rehearse foe this & taking requests from the viewers, is truly outstanding.

Lucas spoke abt the dark rainy day night vibe at the beginning of the song - Fyi, there's a part in the lyrics where she's talking abt moonless night where all she can see is darkness 💔 2. She learned how to do proper scream to give more flavor to her vocals 3. this song Sakalam aka "intense" was written by Romeo their drummer and Mr Tritone Studios 4. If you would only understand what she's singing, youll appreciate her emotions and dynamics more 5. Why they cant sing their own beautiful composition is a mystery. She is signed under Star Music, Enuf said. 6, they avoid singing OPMs in their streams as it is more restricted

You are right in your observation. Wondering also why they can't sing their original songs in their gigs. Is it maybe because of copyright issues? They are only allowed if their concert is ABS-CBN produced, I think, just in her recent concert G Rules. She sang about 3 or 4 original songs. Just my opinion and observation😢

​​​@@dollylaurente1896Yes it's very strange. They don't sing their original songs during their gigs (when they tour the country playing for different festivals). They did sing all their originals during their Domination tour last year, which was produced by ABS-CBN Star Music. The video was recently released on KZbin, about a week ago. It's amazing stuff. So maybe ABS-CBN produced their album, & therefore they "own" the songs? That's messed up. Here in the US, the person who composes the song is the owner & get the royalties. I wonder how much Gigi Vibes is getting? I guess not much bc she was selling her clothes & things on social media a couple of months ago, to help her mom who has stage 4 cancer. I don't know how copyright laws are implemented in the Philippines but it seems as if artists have to rely on these 2 mega companies that control he industry, ABS-CBN & GMA to make it big. I guess artists can self-produce but it's hard to come up with the money. Its sad bc a lot of Gigi Vibes fans don't even know they have an album out. There's been very little promotion. I guess ABS-CBN decided not to spend money on promoting Gigi Vibes, bc they would rather spend money promoting their favorite artists.

They released a whole album of original songs last year. They are lucky to have been able to do this when she is still not that popular in PH. It's difficult for artists to produce albums in PH bc the entertainment industry is controlled by 2 big companies who choose who they want to promote, which are usually eye candy actors who don't really know how to sing, yet they produce albums & music videos for them all the time. ABS-CBN Star Music channel released a video recently of their Domination tour where sang all their originals. There is a song there, First Night which is really good. Hope u can react to it, forward to 7 min mark.

I was reading some of the comments here & I have to agree it is strange that they don't sing their original songs during their gigs. They only sang them a few times & those concerts are produced by ABS-CBN. I guess when they're doing gigs independently, they are not allowed (?). Strange, I don't understand how the Philippine music industry operates but I don't like it. Most people who follow Gigi & the Vibes don't even know they have an album with originals songs they composed. There's been very little promotion. So sad 😔

My understanding, Gigi has contract in ABS CBN Music but her band members are not. She is committed to both parties, legally with ABS and morally with her band members. Her situation is difficult because she can't create her own music outside her contract.

SAKALAM. Malakas. Strong. Hmm. I thought so. I've been away from the country for so long that I feel I should catch up with the new Filipino slang terms. But it's not too hard to guess. Filipinos have a predilection to coin new words from old ones by writing the letters of a word backwards. E.g., MALAKAS (strong) becomes SAKALAM (also means strong). Another, now quite a dated way to coin slang words (it was a fad in the 60s and 70s) was to invert or reverse the syllables of a word when saying it. Both these ways, kinda mask the old word. But people quickly gets it. For example, the word POGI, which means handsome, was coined from the spanish word GUAPO. The syllables were reversed, hence PO•GUA but the second syllable GUA naturally evolved to GUI, hence POGI. This word has officially become a part of the Filipino lexicon.

Not drinking the Koolaid here, but “Heart to Heart” should have been left alone. They tweaked the melody and arrangement too much, and it’s one of those songs that would be difficult to pull off and do justice doing so if you’re going to veer off from the original to the extreme that it’s almost unrecognizable. I understand the intention to put your own little stamp and make the song your own. But just because you could and some of your fans dig rocking out everything, it doesn’t mean you should. There’s a fine line between doing a cover that’s popular and doing your own interpretation that you would be remembered for. The former is the primary reason that cover performance only has less than 300K views. The latter is why her rendition of “Through the Fire” is off the charts. But hey, listening to music is purely a subjective experience. “Unholy” and “Decide” were done with more than justice. That formula worked. I personally don’t feel their “Heart to Heart” cover deserves any more publicity than it already has garnered to date. It’s an aberration. Sorry fans. Still a big fan of the band. They gel together like peanut butter and jelly.
