Kanako is a very special song. At first I thought it was a song that reflects his renewed and strengthened faith to God. Then there's a part where I realize that it could also be a song dedicated to his parents who I believe decided to come back to the Philippines for good. Ken isn't my bias. Ken's solo songs are not my type of music.I had initial prejudice against him, because he comes to me as pasaway, always late & the least committed since he only trained for 1 year before debuting unlike other members. But I can never argue with the facts that1) he has the most flexible voice, 2) the natural swag when he dances just makes him stand out above the rest 3) he is very genuine. I watched him up close during PPop Con and there's just something about him that's so genuine especially with the way he interacts with fans. Indeed, he was that missing piece that completed the SB19 puzzle. Like him or not, SB19 would be bland without Ken.

He is different, there are lots of belters, rappers, and there are others with deep voice, but i find Ken on a different level, usually those with deep voices do country, or heavy metal rock, but Ken/Felip, he raps, and.... DANCES. Btw, not hating on KPop, but with regards to SB19, i find most KPop vocally sounds the same to me. With SB19, i was blown away with how they sound and of course how they perform with stable vocals, rarely breathless.

I feel like Ken/Felip listens to a different variety of music from the US, Korea, Japan... He even knows songs in Spanish, Indonesian, etc. A person this talented, who is also willing to learn, oozing with confidence and is a risk-taker, can be a breakthrough artist. To be honest, with SB19, Ken is a hidden gem for fans. I mean, SB19 is already a gem, but Ken is the type of gem that you'll want to keep for yourself. LMAO. Why Ken's voice makes us cry Ken may not be blessed with a high vocal range, but that's where our dissection begins on why his songs make us weep or reduce us on the brink of tears when we hear him sing, whether in full or in snippets when he's with his group, SB19 or Mahalima & in whatever genre at that. Ken' is so honest with his feelings that his song rendition is always emotionally charged, expressing a whole gamut of sentiments ranging from despair to tranquility or vice-versa. It seems as though the lines of his songs are being breathed with bigger life one after the other. Such that we envision if not see through his songs the fruition or embodiment of his emotions which could have been drawn from the deep reservoir of his complex world of challenges or difficulties in the past, actual or vicarious, including the blockages or impediments he had to hurdle personally or professionally at that, prior to pursuing his dream with much gusto. Add to that his God-given singing talent or voice quality & timbre and voila, Ken hums or sings a lovely tone with loads of characters in it, complete with prominent vocals, projection as well as great control throughout, making his songs wonderfully melodic, moving, inspirational, magical, mesmerizing, calming, soulful if not therapeutic. All told, who would not be tearful or be on the verge of shedding tears whenever you hear Felip aka Ken sing? Thank you! For this beautifully said comment. There is truly something to be said whenever he sings his verse in SB19 or his own songs as Felip. It just always seems it comes from the heart. He knows how to convey and makes us feel what he is going thru and feel it to. Be it you understand it fully, partially or not at all (Google translate😂). Music is universal and comes into play. He can set the tone of the music, which is forever the reason he has been given that opportunity in most of SB19 songs (slmt Pablo)and even if not intro, when it's his turn to interpret I'm already invested be it happy, sad, rejoice, triumph, and any other emotion. He will put us thru in a matter of few seconds, minute, or entire song. He doesn't need to hit a high note to convey this, scream it, or go low. It's the way he sings it, tone, texture & understanding. It's amazing to me how he can be an All Genre type of singer. Doesn't want to be pigeon holed. Out of the 5 of them in SB19, he's the one who has openly studied it, and created his own sound by mix and matching his influences. I've seen time and again how foreign reactors gravitate towards his type of music, including Filipino reactors who are, and have been exposed only mostly to music, from the US. I feel like this year will be his breakout period, and soon. He usually releases new music during his bday and January is his birth month. Can't wait for that. Forget the US market, I'm from the US and would be sad if Asian Pop catered to this market and this comes from someone that goes to live shows here at least once a week. Artists come and go in the blink of an eye. What I like about Asian-Pop music is that a band is allowed to develop and grow for a few years. There's a fighting chance an artist will have a lasting career in the industry. Everything in the US is disposable in a matter of months. The future money market for Asian Pop is China anyways. That's where the big money is.

Thank you for always showing support to SB19 and Felip. He actually pronounces his name as FEH-lip. Emphasis on the first syllable. He was named after his grandpa, FELIPE (Feh-LIH-peh). He wrote the song about God, A’TIN, family, friends, and all his supporters. But it could also be about for someone you love. His first draft of the song (he posted on his IG story), it was originally a song to God. He just had a writing and recording session with Hyukshin, who has written and produced for BTS, other Kpop groups, and Justin Bieber among others. Hyukshin even called him, and I quote, “the next international star from the Philippines.” I’m excited to see what he releases for his next solo comeback. And I’m also excited for SB19’s comeback this year. Agree with both Josh and Lucas, he has his thumb on what’s happening in Western music. His current faves are Post Malone, and Travis Scott, and you can tell their influence on his COMPLEX EP. I do agree that Pablo also has the potential to appeal to the west for his solo, and needs to explore that more. But I think he’s really dedicated to writing for SB19 at the moment. But I can’t wait for him to do more solo as well.

Re: pronunciation, my Dad is Bisaya/Cebuano and they tend to pronounce "e" as "ee". So my Uncle Moises has a nickname and I kept spelling his name as Sising, when it was actually spelled Sesing (the "ses" coming from Moises), and I spelled it wrong because of how everyone pronounced it in Cebu. Same with my Dad, whose nickname is Coling. But everyone pronounces it as Cooling. They tend to extend vowels. I'm Filipino but raised Tagalog (in Metro Manila), so there's a difference in pronunciations and accents. My Cebuano nephews and nieces have a Tagalog accent when they speak my language, though, so I think it kinda spilled over there. Of all the songs the SB19 members released, this is my favorite. Even among their SB19 songs. It reminds me so much of 90s punk rock. The thing about the English captions, though. They don't exactly capture the full essence of the lyrics (like, it doesn't do justice).

in one of the member interview, (I can’t remember who) said that Ken makes him realize how big the music industry is in US when they 1st do their concert in US. He is the 1st to realize that their feet is not even in the US ground (musically) yet. And tapping into the US music industry is like a big wall that needs to be climbed. And this is exactly how I see it the 1st time they went to US. I hope they realize it and know that there are still work to be done. (their talent is already 100% so I’m not talking about that). There is no formula to appeal to US audiences because there are so many things going on with the world music right now…but a grounded realization of where they stand (humility) will help them to achieve their goal. Wow, I'm glad they think about it and it came to their realization. It's very humbling for them to say and admit it but the best thing is they're very open for improvement, development and learning more about music and performing in order for them to penetrate the Western music.

Yes, it was a virtual interview when they were in Singapore. Ken said after their WYAT World Tour in the US he realized they were small fishes in a small pond and that they need to go/swim out of that small pond into the ocean. He was so realistic and honest in that time when he answered. He was mostly quiet in that interview and only talked at the end.
