This performance of "Please Don't Go" was from their SHINee World Concert V (SWC5) in 2016. This was the last SHINee group concert tour that Jonghyun was involved in. So that is why this is such a meaningful and poignant song for Shawols. On top of being a very beautiful performance, it's almost as if Onew and Jonghyun are singing to each other, asking each other to "please don't leave," etc., which in hindsight, breaks our hearts every time we hear them sing those lines. Jonghyun and Onew were a POWERFUL combo, proving why they are the vocal standard in the industry. As you are starting to discover, Jonghyun is one of the best vocalist in Kpop and he was an expert at conveying emotion through his songs and performance. And as a musical stage actor, Onew knows how to tell a story through music and make you feel everything. As a lead actor in several musical productions, Onew knows how to project his voice to the back of the theatre and to fill a room with each note. "Please Don't Go" is a perfect example of why they are both so highly respected for their vocal talent. That's why, even as rookies, Jonghyun and Onew were vocal coaches and mentors to a lot other artists and trainees. There is almost no group that has better harmonies and vocals than SHINee. They are one of the most well rounded groups in Kpop that excel at every aspect of the entertainment industry.

@@Lawol yes, I was including their Japanese tour as part of the overall tour. The Korean/international leg of the tour ended at the end of 2016 and it wasn't long after that they started their Japanese tour, so although it may have been separate years, it was pretty much the same tour, I just didn't think it was that important to make the distinction.

Thank you so much for the reaction and the technical explanations!! I'd also like to thank all the people who are requesting SHINee's reactions!! Unfortunately, the next 18th will be the fifth year that Jonghyun is no longer with us… I consider that listening to the art he left us is the most beautiful way to pay homage to him! By the way, the day this video was released was Onew's birthday and this reaction was a perfect fit! I don't know what your next reactions to SHINee will be, but I would like to reinforce two important things: it is unanimous that the best songs on SHINee's albums are always the b-sides (many of them are ballads) and that all of the group's songs are better live than the recorded version (including the high-energy performances). I'll leave a single suggestion because I really like this performance: Romeo + Juliet (SWC5 - the same concert as Please don't Go) Thx again guys!

SHINee ballads are one of their best b-sides (in my honest opinion). But like you say, they don't receive as much attention as their tittle songs. I love that you are going into it. I love hearing technical reasons I'm completely clueless about that validate what a great performance this is (aside from that the way these guys sing breaks me wide open every time I watch this). Thank you for sharing your knowledge and for this reaction! I discovered Jonghyun a year ago and through him Shinee, and while I truly don't know anything technically, I know how hard Jonghyun and the other members trained and studied, and I've always suspected that Shinee knows their stuff really, really well, down to details not everyone thinks about, and works hard at those details. To me, Jonghyun especially had not only an extraordinary voice but a deep understanding of his voice and what he wanted to do with it and of *how* to do what he wanted to with it, also of how to express a song's emotion vocally and physically, and he really thought about every detail, whether in performing or writing lyrics or composing. You mentioned that this duet seems outside of kpop - I would say (with absolutely no technical knowledge to back me up :-)) that a lot of Jonghyun's solo stuff breaks that barrier too. Other people are leaving great ballad suggestions for Shinee, so I'll leave some Jonghyun suggestions: Moon - his tribute to Prince Diphylleia Grayii (Skeleton Flower) Beautiful Tonight Y Si Fuera Ella (Shinee World Concert 2 performance) There are so many other things that are equally wonderful; these four works are some that (gorgeously) show different aspects of his range. I've only known of Jonghyun for not quite a year, but his voice, his performances, his song-writing, himself as a person, have changed music for me forever. It means a lot to me to have his music, both solo and with Shinee, listened to and appreciated, especially at this time. Last year at this time I hadn't yet stumbled across Moon by accident and simultaneously been lost and found.

It is a speciap song, very meaningful for the fandom, the lyrics are sooo beautiful and the song.. you'll see! Also, you should watch "Selene 6.23" sang live by Onew (the other member on the duet video) & K-indie female songwriter-singer Sunwoo Jungha, in the show "Sea of Hope".
